Possible Halo Movie Movement?

By John - April 24, 2008 - 14:36 America/Montreal

The folks over at TheOneRing have reported the following:

A few days ago, Microsoft quietly added several job listings to its careers website. The company is looking for a Creative Director, Producer, Game Engineers and more to “help develop a new experience in the Halo universe.” Microsoft just contacted MTV Multiplayer with an official statement, confirming the prospective hires will work on Peter Jackson’s “Halo” project.

So what does this mean? Well… in all reality probably nothing. We all know that Microsoft isn’t done with a potential Halo movie project that we all know will eventually happen, but really them having staff turnover or adding a few new team members to the development staff doesn’t really say anything other than “things are still status quo”.

I have no doubt within the next day or two some hype alarmists will start posting stuff about how “Halo Movie Back On” or other nonsense like that, but in reality this really isn’t much. It will happen at some point… maybe even this year… but I don’t think this is much of an indicator one way or another. (Thanks to Steven for the heads up)

Guess shane beat my contact e-mail. Oh, well. Hopefully some good news will come out of this.

  2. John says:

Oppsss… no Steven it was you. Just got the names mixed up for a minute.

  3. Chark Hammis says:

This story relates to a PJ helmed video game project dubbed “Halo:Chronicles” that was announced in 2005, NOT a movie.

  4. Phil Gee says:

I really don’t think a Halo film is going to happen ever (for various reasons which you’ve already brought up John).

One that i’ve noticed seems to be (and correct me if i’m wrong folks – unless you’re SoulVideo) that nobody is talking about Halo 3 anymore. It wasn’t the second coming of gaming. It was just any hyped product that fizzled away after Christmas. It certainly doesn’t seem to have the staying power of ‘World of Warcraft’.

  5. Fredo says:

Yeah, this is video game news, not movie news. Or at least I’d bet my soft, shoven testicles that it is.

  6. Chris says:

As stated above Peter Jackson is not helming a movie in this case but a new videogame in the Halo Universe.

The game or project was announced at Microsoft’s X05 event in 2005 and details have been very slow due to his schedule and the release of Halo 3 last year and Halo Wars this year.

After Halo Wars comes out expect more details on this project.

  7. Jeff says:

Yeah what the others said, both you guys and theonering.net are misinformed, this is about the Halo game Jackson is involved with.

  8. erocka says:

it’s got to be halo:chronicles… the new interactive movie like game which is being helmed by petey jack…. sonnnnnnnn!!

  9. spence says:

As many has mentioned above, this is more than likly about the Halo Chronicles Jackson is working on.

I do believe that we will see a Halo movie, just dont know when.

  10. JAMIE says:

if they do- can thye NOT name him master chief? because the marines dont have that…..

  11. Yeah, this has nothing to do with the movie. I should know, since I wrote the article. ;) Peter Jackson has been working on an oft-rumored episodic Halo project to make its debut sometime in 2009 for a while now. This news simply indicates that Bungie is not the active developer on the title, and that Microsoft is developing a new team for Jackson.
