I don't understand certain people's obsession with things being "dark" and "gritty". You can make a film as grubby looking as you want (it's not hard), but that still won't make it a good film. Instead, a good film needs a solid script (the Wachowskis are incredibly adept and experienced scribes), a unique slant (that's apparent from the trailers), and needs to be treated with a genuine love and affection for the material and the characters (which the Wachowskis obviously have). I have a feeling this film <b>could</b> end up being one of the biggest hits of the Summer. Lots of lights and pretty things. It looks more like it will do good, but still not my bag.
