Star Trek 11 Possible Plot Spoiler

By Rodney - April 15, 2008 - 06:49 America/Montreal

The Movie Blog is full of firsts, and though I will likely never be historically credited for any of the ground breaking terminology like the HD dvd Format War being called aCivil War of High Definition Formats or Zombie Dramas being called Zom-Dram, I have made a couple predictions that have come true (Prime destroying the AllSpark in Transformers) and some that have not (I predicted ObiWan would die in the prequels and the older “Ben” Kenobi was a clone)

So I am stating this for the record in case this actually happens. In a recent Star Trek post I wrote, a commenter identifying himself as JT Kirk said he had a plot spoiler that Spock would travel back in time to change history, therefore justifying a reboot of the Star Trek universe without ignoring canon.

Well back in February of 2007, I wrote a post about confirming JJ Abrams officially to direct. At that point the script hadn’t been solidified but JJ being involved meant they were likely to go with his idea to reboot the story.

Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner we already in talks to be involved and it sounded like it wouldn’t just be a cameo, and I would love to see an aged Spock and Kirk make a desperate jump back in time to change a moment in history and have it all changed from that moment forward. They already came back to save the whales, but didnt alter history. Its time for something in Star Trek to not work out as planned. They can make a mistake, and that would clear the slate to start over, with no history, no future to adhere to, and no Tribbles.

Of course back then I predicted they would involve Shatner as well, and I had forgotten that he died in Generations making his involvement in a future storyline inappropriate. So if my prediction is right, its going to be Spock flying solo to go mess up time and give us a whole new Star Trek Universe.

So there you have it! I said it first! I wont get credit for it, but if it turns out to be accurate I can have my own little corner of the net when I sit smuggly with that “I told you” look on my face and make Hollywood wish they hired me to write this script.

I would have cost less.

Um, that plot’s already been confirmed by Nimoy himself, recently.

Slushie… the point is that I suggested it 14 months ago.

  3. Bill says:

Yeah, but if you read the books, especially those written by Shatner ( I know they might or might not be canon), Kirk was revived after Generations and still goes on adventures throughout 2 universes

No offense, but predicting that a Star Trek movie is going to have a time travel plot is about as impressive as predicting that the newest Will Ferrel movie is going to have a a bunch of fart jokes.

dude, obi-wan dying in the prequels and coming back as a clone is an awesome idea, too bad it didn’t happen like that.

  6. I can allmost guarantee that Spock won’t be going back in time to save young Kirk.

It will be something bigger than that.

This plotline isn’t really anything more than a new twist on First Contact.

  7. Brian says:

Spock could go back, change some things in the past and greeted by older Kirk when he returns to an altered timeline in which Kirk didn’t get killed.

  8. Rodney says:

First off, Shatner’s novels that deal with Kirk being revived after his death in Generations is a simple (and stupid) plot device that Shatner needed to continue his writing career with that character. Nothing more.

Dingo, predicting the time travel angle was not something cutting edge that I hoped they would use. It was a prediction and suggestion on just how they could use something already present and plausible in the Star Trek canon to achieve their goals to reboot the series without completely ignoring canon. And it appears they are going to do it almost exactly how I suggested it.

Shadow, First Contact was not the first or only movie or episode to deal with time travel. They do it a plenty throughout the series and spinoffs. I also don’t see anywhere that suggests Spock will return to save Kirk. It would seem that the time paradox that changes history will be a butterfly effect that happens after Spock travels to change something.

  9. Nero causes the time paradox that Spock must deal with.
