As much as most people like to bitch about the prequels... they did have their moments. They were highly flawed(then again, so was Return of the Jedi)... having Anakin be a child in TPM and a whiny EMO kid in AOTC were probably the two biggest. C'mon though, Revenge of the Sith was abso-fuckin-lutely fantastic(with the notable exception of Natalie Portman, who turned in one of the worst performances of her career)! It was just about everything I wanted out of a STAR WARS film. In fact, I'd probably go so far as to say that it's my second favorite of the six... second only to Empire.

Having said all that, I am thrilled beyond belief to hear that the live action series will focus less on the shiny and more on the grimy. The lived in/almost falling apart quality from the original trilogy was one of the things I felt was missing from the prequels for the most part.

I can't fucking wait for this series to hit the air!

I just hope they keep the amount of annoying aliens (jar-jar and the like), to a minimum and stick to cool designs like Bossk and Boba Fett...

My thoughts mirror Monty. Interested and somewhat curious about this project but the prequels also took the wind out of me.

To this day I'm not sure what exactly happened in the prequels to make them so bad...it would be cool to see a documentary someday just to see the procees that was went thru to make the prequels. It might reveal some of what went down and clarify the choices Lucas made i.e. Jar Jar and the age of Annikin.( Who I always thought would be in his teens, 15 or 16). I would even like to know why Lucas directed the actors to be so stiff, aside from Ewan who did a wonderful job.

I love that concept.
It is exactly what the grown-up fans of Star Wars want.
Screw the Jedis, I know Lightsabers are cool and all, but it's time to ditch that perspective and look at this universe from another angle. Imagine a gritty show about a bounty hunter who hunts his targets through the dirty lower plattforms of Corouscant or in some dirty spice-mine on Kessel. That would fucking kick ass. Bring in some familiar faces like Bossk, IG-88 or Jabba, set it in OT-times and everyone will watch it.
This is where the future of this franchise is. Lucas "exploited" the childish side of it to a point where it can only become repetitive. That's why I'm skeptical about the new animated series, it seems to feature stuff we've seen a few times already. The fans want a new direction and this is it.

I always liked the smugglers, bounty hunters, and scruffy looking nerf herders of the Star Wars Universe....can't wait. Wasn't this the same approach that Deep Space Nine had for the Star Trek franchise?

I'll watch it when it airs, but I'm not waiting on pins and needles for it, the prequels took a lot of the wind out of the sails of this franchise for me.
