Zak Penn Talks About Capt. America Script
It appears Zak Penn may be the man to script the Capt. America movie. We get this news thanks to a news piece from our friends at cinematical:
In a new interview over at ComicMix, writer-director Zak Penn talked up a ton of projects including his latest film The Grand (which I loved, and which you should see), as well as his geeky comic-related screenwriting projects like The Avengers, that X-Men spinoff flick (featuring the young X-Men), The Incredible Hulk, a new one called Bermuda Triangle and, finally … Captain America? Oh yes, though he doesn’t go into much detail (aside from saying he’s attached), apparently Zak Penn is now the guy writing Captain America. (Not sure what happened to David Self?) And assuming Edward Norton doesn’t sign on to star, Penn’s final script may actually make it before cameras this time.
I know Zak Penn is going to have to scrap it out with Jon Favreau for dibs on the Avengers. It looks like Penn has been working hard to get scripts done for a host of comic book projects, hoping that one would catch a fish. It’s certainly not a bad strategy, in fact, if the above story is true, his ambitious pencil may have harpooned him the Captain America gig.
Captain America has a shield… and is full of roids. He has never been one of my favorite super heroes, but I have always admired the character for his simplicity.
We will be certain to follow this story and see if it ends up coming to fruition. In troubled times such as these, the children cry out for Captain America.
Make it so Zak, make it so.

David was too selfish.
Cinematical retracted their story after Penn’s rep got in touch. He was talking about a possible Avengers movie, not a stand-alone Cap movie. David Self is still writing that one.
Nevermind. Da Funk was in da house and beat me to it.
Still, regardless, is Nick Cassavettes still in talks for Cap?
What is it with the people on this site pointing out the simplicities of superheroes? :P
If they make it, I hope they get Matthew McConaughey to play Steve Rogers. I always thought he’d be perfect as Captain America.
get rodriguez to do this as a wwll flick with nazis and red skull.
It’s about damn time; i really have no idea why Cap’s been held up for so long.
Bringing Cap to the big screen is a challenge.
The possibility for it to be ridiculous is gigantic, the opportunity for it to be one of the best superhero-films ever is also there.
They should depict the Captain as a defender of values, not the symbol for senseless patriotism. Marvel did this brilliantly in the Civil Wars Saga and this is where the makers of the movie should look for orientation for the character. As far as casting is concerned, I nominate Chris Evans. Or Ryan Gosling. Both great young AMERICAN actors who are charismatic and talented.
Here is what IIIIIIII Think should happen.
Split the movie in half. first hour and 15 minutes. Have him vs the nazi’s and redskull. Second hour Have him frozen, and awake in the current time, sort of like the Ultimates storyline. which then can lead to an avengers movie some how. w/ iron man, hulk, thor, and the rest.
Digital Drew, I love your idea.
I concur with DDrew as well. The only addition I would like to see is a two-parter. First, and the harder of the two, Cap is a Grand Master Strategist. Bring that to the screen. (How he could have lost Civil War, I have no idea. Marvel plays favorites to the popular characters at the moment….) Second, His shield separates him from just any soldier or any other hero. It should be a character in itself. With those two addressed, along with the DDrew idea it could be a good flick.
@ digital drew
great idea but i wanted that for the punisher (just 15 minutes of him as a marine) and it didnt happen- but well see
hes my favorite superhero along with moonknight and the hulk so this will be awsome
i just cant wait for an avengers movie so i can hera him scream “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!”
