Capcom aims to Produce Movies Based on its Game Titles
Because we all know how successful Video Game movies are CapCom has decided to get going on clearing its library of games to make some movies.
Japanese-based video game developer/publisher Capcom has revealed it plans to make a new batch of horrible video game movie adaptations. Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto says he hopes his company will revitalize video game movies just as Marvel has revitalized comic book movies.
Every time we hear about a movie based on a video game we automatically assume the worst. The interesting thing is that Capcom prez Tsujimoto said he hopes to make a change in that perception.
The fact that he calls it a “revitalization” makes me think this is just fluff talk. I don’t recall an age when they were popular as much as they were plentiful. Lots of them hardly qualifies as quality. But at very least the best of them did offer some light entertainment, so they were not all terrible.
But imagine if you can, a change in how these movies are treated. Someone actually taking them serious and getting some real talent involved in delivering a quality film based on these franchises? Wouldn’t that be something!
If they were to do something that was on par with the excitement around IronMan and Batman, which franchise would you pick?
I would love to see Darkstalkers and of course, Megaman.

Sigh. Fail.
Capcom games…eh? Not Sega or Namco? Okay…let me think…
You mean aside from licensed stories/characters (thus leaving out Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Alien vs. Predator, Avengers, X-Men Children of The Atom?) Besides Street Fighter?
Okay…uh…let’s see…
Red Earth?
Black Tiger (Dragon)?
They already ruined the movie versions of two of there big three videogame series (Mega Man, Resident Evil, Street Fighter). One could argue a Soul Calibur movie, but I can’t see that working too well.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Believe.
I think Devil May Cry may be great movie. Well, it won’t be a good movie cause all game to movie sucks, but it has potential. Other potential good movies are Ghost’n'Goblins, Bionic Commando, Final Fight and Mega Man
I would go to see their movies.
Its not Capcom but a Namco game id like to see, Xenosaga.
I think it’s silly that many people have the preconceived notion that all video game inspired movies must be rubbish. Why? They’re based on games, but the games all have stories and back stories written for them. The average game these days is far more complex than the old Mario Bros platform game. Video games today are a multi-million dollar industry, almost every household has a game console, so the potential market is there.
The problem is not the material, it’s that the people who make these films make them into rubbish. The scripts are rubbish and the acting is poor. If these were original films they would be bad, if they were based on comics they’d be bad. Nothing to do with what inspired them.
I’m not a huge video game fan by any means, but it annoys me that such a good source of inspiration for some interesting films is wasted by Hollywood.
Shane, you admitted that its silly that we would have a preconcieved notion that video game movies are rubbish, then procede to rant about how they make them that way?
Is it silly to think they will be crap just because they are all crap??
Well, it’s working for Marvel. As long as they don’t hire Uwe Boll for any of thier flicks.
I don’t think Mega man would ever work. I’d die to see a Contra movie though.
I think that’s with Capcom
wait wait wait… to Mr.Death….they already did a mega man????!! oh shit. I’d definitely wanna see that shit. That would be SOOO tight. but it would also be tricky to make it not look like a baby iron man movie.
I, too, am more interested in a Namco title than one from Capcom. I would love to see the Soul Calibur franchise turned into movies–with the understanding that the storyline is complete crap anyway, and all I’m expecting is good cheesy fun and lots of kickass fighting. I enjoyed DOA for that very reason.
And now to prepare for the obligatory burning-at-the-virtual-stake such a statement must summon.
Devil May Cry is the option.
Megaman? wtf are you thinkin’?
new batch of horrible video game movie adaptations… is he saying all game and comic books movies are horrible?
“The interesting thing is that Capcom prez Tsujimoto said he hopes to make a change in that perception.”
didt he say horrible? as in he knows there is money in it?
Letter to president Haruhiro Tsujimoto of Capcom: You are retarded!!!! The reason comic book movies work is because there are stories there and everyone wants to see them on the screen to see what can be done… Video Games are already on the screen and aside from Resident Evil (which really didn’t have anything to do with the games) I can’t really think of any video game movies that worked… Leave the stories for the games or if you want more of an audience try to write some good fucking stories for new games instead of re re re releasing Street Fighter II…
BJON86
No, they havn’t done mega man
I’m a HUGE fan of Megaman.
I always dreamed of a westernized animated Megaman film in the style and spirit of The Iron Giant or The Incredibles.
A Brad Bird Megaman film???!!! Hell yes…
CAPCOM PRODUCING MOVIES FROM GAME TITLES.
Just think like Marvel comics did produced their movies so I don’t know what capcom will do well as long as the work is done right with stories,
script need to be more followed to the games and not make it cheesy.
Megaman will be a good movie as a PG rated live action film if the script is done right and a live action Devil May Cry which the movie will be R rated it will be different to Blade movies.
Onimusha is listed in production so I think the screenwriters will need to rewrite the script to follow the plot from the Onimusha Warlords game,Samuel Hadida should hire some Asian script writers to helm the script with Keiji Inafune to co-write the script,Samanosuke,Kaede and all crew from the first game will be in the film.IMDb will make the changes on the Onimusha movie and Christophe Gans will return to the project while Capcom will work on the Script supervising and the concepts. The film will have the music composer from the same team who worked on the music for Onimusha game.Onimusha will be filmed in Japan.
Darkstalkers could be another video game movie if Capcom should get into talks with Threshold Entertainment the filmmakers behind the Mortal Kombat movies should get the rights for movies and TV.
Thank You.
