Highlander Set For Remake
It looks like people still enjoy huffing glue now and again. We are told that a Highlander remake is in the works today thanks to our friends at IESB:
There can be only one…well, apparently not! Summit Entertainment will remake the Christopher Lambert classic HIGHLANDER!
Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will pen the script. The idea is to expand on the original premise of immortals battling each other to become the most powerful, hence the “there can be only one” motto.
I just referenced Highlander in the School Of Rock 2 post as an example of leaving well enough alone. It appears others disagree with me, and have decided to remake the Highlander. Yep, thats right, a remake of HIghlander.
I am discombobulated by this outlandish decision. Highlander is a classic fucking movie, you sully its name with shitty sequels and now you want to remake it? Fuck that shit. I still haven’t seen any of the HIghlander sequels, and I have yet to meet a person that considers this a mistake. …..Also how the fuck are you going to remake this without the bitchin’ Queen soundtrack? Who wants to live forever is an amazing song in this film and it needs to be there forever and always.
I do not like this one bit, and hope the ghost of Freddy Mercury curses everyone involved with plague, leading to death, followed by undeath; so they may serve as zombie examples to other film makers with horrible ideas.

I love the original Highlander. I only watched one of the sequels and it was bad…………..like real fucking bad. At this point in time I don’t care if they remake it, there are so many bad sequels out there of Highlander that I’m quite used to a bad Highlander movie coming out. My only faith in this project is the fact they got two of the Iron Man writers on.
The very first one was the best one. I’ve seen the series on tv and watched all the movies on HBO. The first one wins out all the time. I hope these writers catch that “certain kind of magic.”
Remakes should be reserved for films that didn’t reach theie potential the first time around. For example, JAWS should never be remade, even with the new FX’s you would not be able to match the execution that Spielberg and Co. came up with. Plus, you could not cast the film any better, but this probably goes for any classic. This brings me to HIGHLANDER which stars, in my opinion, one of the top five worst actors of all time in Christopher Lambert. No matter how good the rest of the film is, this aspect always gets in the way of my enjoyment. I truly believe that he makes an actor like Steven Segal look respectable.
Complete waste of time.
Who am I kidding? I’m going to see this for sure!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
im against this but i’ll see it for sure. :P
just watched The Source the other day. holy fucking shit!
I’m surprisingly opened minded. Of course it will depend on the direction the story will go and who is cast and who directs. Maybe it’s because I didn’t stop after the first Highlander and watched the sequels…
I still love the first Highlander and nothing will take that away.
Highlander is one of those classics that was amazing for its day…but come on, so much could be done with this franchise if it were rebooted and placed in capable hands.
I can envision some amazing sword fights and maybe dare I dream…a proper ‘gathering’ with a couple of dozen immortals and hacking and slashing each other to bits until there are just two left on the field.
WOW! What a surprise! Who cares
I was just thinking about a what if they made another Highlander movie. Except I wasn’t thinking of a remake.
I was thinking it would be cool if they made another one but have the story be about yet another MacLeod. Taking place in the not so distant future. Maybe post apocalyptic. With Gerard Butler leading and having his character face other Immortals he met in his past (of course). Possibly have his nemesis be an ancient Samurai. Often taking us back to those times throughout the movie.
This just feels wrong to me
I really want to look on the bright side and say, “well, this time, they won’t back themselves into a corner if they want sequels”. Another part of me hopes they go back to the original Greg Widen script. Not that it will happen.
As to this news, however, why is it a shock? Everytime a new Highlander flick comes out, x amount of time down the road we get “the restored” cut or “the director’s cut” with three seconds more of nonsense or an alternate ending or a cut scene…blah blah blah.
The original? That director’s cut was really the international version and it wasn’t a surprise that the film made money…outside the North American box office.
In the films that followed, they kept messing around with lack of clarity or focus, blaming shit on the Argentians (Highlander II) bad distribution (Highlander III) studio interference/challenged budget (Highlander Endgame) and then the last one, which I’m surprised sci-fi channel even put on the airwaves.
The series I didn’t care for at first, but then they found some good footing, (w/ theWatchers inclusion) and had Fine Young Cannibals’ Roland Gift as bad immortal Xavier St Cloud (even if they knocked him off too soon)
In any case, they retconned the series again in Endgame and even to an extent in Source. It’s like…now a remake of the first film?
Now we’ll get into debates who should play Connor, maybe Duncan, maybe Rameriez….then there’s “Victor” KURGAN. As to FX upgrades, that’s debatable. Tis only lightning blowing up stuff, right? Or do we get BLOOD with those close shaves?
Good luck to you all. And don’t lose your head.
I’ll hold judgment until further news of cast, ect is released, but they got the Iron Man scribes working on the script, so that’s one good point for the project right off the bat.
“there are so many bad sequels out there of Highlander”
You’ve only seen one, so how can you have an opinion on the others? IMO, Highlander 2 and 5 were HORRIBLE, but 3 and 4 were passable. Not nearly as great as the first movie, but still decent enough.
JUST STOOOOOP!!!! leave the original alone… it was great… no remake though IMHO the original end endgame were the best…
You know what…..I like the original. But I’d be up for a remake. I love the series and thought it ended on a HORRIBLE note with the movie last year. It would nice to know that something could restore the Highlander franchise after that.
put a wwe superstar in this one like cm punk or chris jericho.
@TNA…. Wrestlers are not actors. I would sooner see a half decent actor than some lame wrestler in it.
