Coming from someone who didn't even know an Iron Man existed...
and
from someone who has only heard of Downey Jr. from a rumor of some crime or fall from grace of some sort...........

I love love loved this movie.
I agree with John in that it could have maybe one to two more action sequences, but that is it.

I loved everything about this movie. Absolutely everything.
Honestly, I went in with so so expectations, no knowledge, and not that much excitement, but I don't think I've enjoyed a movie this much in a while.

And the audience I watched with agreed, people were clapping vigorously as the credits began to roll.

All I can say is GO IRON MAN GO!!!

Now I wonder how TDK will fare...a pretty tough one to match.

I hope TDK succeeds all expectations.

As someone who doesn't read comics or particularly care for them, I knew who Iron Man was.

Well, actually, let's put it this way...I knew OF him and I knew he was part of Marvel. As far as details, I knew nothing about him.

I would say most people have heard of Iron Man before this movie, but they're probably unfamiliar with him as a whole.

"GTA is a gang oriented video game that glorifies killing people for street cred."

I am not a big GTA fan but GTA is far far far more then that. The New GTA I bought this weekend got an average critic score of 99.1 (making it the most acclaimed video game ever)

Also the cutscenes in it are as good as most films I watch nowdays, The gap is merging. I Love my films but GTA is holding more then any film I have seen this past year (roll on hellboy 2, and Dark knight)

GTA is far from done my friend its just begining. It sold 604000 copies in the UK in the first weekend now unlike films this game will continue selling for a long time for 60USD.

@Joshua
the Ultimate Nick Fury is based on Sam Jackson. who else were they gonna get to play it?. A lot of the Marvel flicks such as Iron Man (The Armor),Incredible Hulk (The Copter Jump) & so much of the Spider-Man films were based on the more believable Ultimate Universe.

@Darren

I'm sure to Marvel that he's not a second tier character (they've been trying to make this film for years), i just meant in terms of public recognition. A year before the movie, how many random people could tell you who Iron Man is?

Congrats on your prediction though. A 'Movie Moan' T-Shirt is on the way:)

Please, oh god PLEASE don't let Samuel L be Nick Fury!! Damn you hollyweird, damn you all to hell!!! 126 minutes of just pure movie magic cut down but a 5sec atrocity, if anything this was the only bad part for me. I wish I wouldn't have waited to see that after the credits rolled.
It was like was like going home with Jessica Alba only to have her pull out a big weiner at the end of the night =)

Yes, for me and my predictions, it's pretty much the ballpark. In fact, a few weeks ago I actually said this to Phil Gee and Film Nerd Jamie:

"I think Iron Man could match up to (the first) Spider-Man film numbers domestically. It might even do better"

It didn't, but I was off by a few million give or take.

Speaking of Phil:

<i>"Tell me if i’m wrong but is Iron Man that well known? I know i’ve never read one of his comics in my life. </i>

Iron Man has *never* been a second-tier character for Marvel. In addition, he is one of the characters who could keep up with the times. The character even had a hand in inspiring RoboCop.

Now let's say, for the sake of arguement, that not many people knew who Iron Man was. People (meaning general public at large) know who Spider-Man is; they know The Hulk. Fair enough.

Who knew Blade?

See, it's like this: this movie accomplished what should be accomplished in a film based on a superhero comic book. Simply, making a well done, polished movie. Folks know who Iron Man is now, that's a given. For the comics, it will increase readership, it will bring in new fans and reclaim the old fans.

Because Iron Man was a character who adapted with the times well, it isn't a surprise that the film turned out to be a well done adaptation.
Likewise, it's easier to look bad ass in a suit of armor than it can in, well, Stars and Stripes spandex with an A on the head.

I thought Iron Man was a second-tier guy as well, but the trailers looked great and the reviews were phenomenal.
