Looking Back. Justice League Pilot circa 1997

By Rodney - May 1, 2008 - 07:44 America/Montreal

It is no secret that here at the Movie Blog, we applaud the repeated failures in the proposed Justice League Movie. We have continuously preached that they were way off base on thier mission to bring the JLA to the screen. The more they fail, the more it looks like they are listening to us. Maybe someday we will get the JLA we (the fans) want.

But keep in mind that just over a decade ago, an attempt was made to create a Justice League TVShow with a pilot, and we add this to the list of things not to do when making LJA into a movie.

io9.com shares:

Here’s the scene where our point-of-view character Tori Olafsdotter meets the rest of the League, who are based on the mid-1990s comics lineup of characters you’ve never heard of except Flash and Green Lantern.

So keep in mind that it could be worse. But thankfully their current plans are facing devine intervention so that this meager “step up” from the TV Series failure is still not good enough.

The article at the following link has a blurb about the upcoming Justice League: Mortal movie in the works:

[link removed because I think it's confusing the submission filter or something]

“Armie Hammer (center), who portrays Billy Graham in an upcoming biopic, is slated to play Batman in the 2009 feature film “Justice League: Mortal.” Also pictured is Noel Pittman, who portrays Graham’s friend Marjorie Bostrom.”

I think it’s pretty fair to say that anyone with a passing knowledge of the Justice League also knows who the Martian Manhunter is. But I couldn’t agree with TMB more – any delay or death of the Justice League movie, in its current incarnation, is something to celebrate.

  3. I’m a pretty big comic book fan, and I have purposely avoided watching the JLA TV pilot because I had heard it was so bad. Well, I broke down and watched the clip on TMB today and it was quite painful. Thank the maker that special effects have finally caught up with comic books.

Is that main guy Peter Kay in green make-up?

    Oy.

Look. it’s true! 0:45 into the clip he looks like this but, you know, green.

I seriously doubt the geek cred of this post. The linked text says

“meets the rest of the League, who are based on the mid-1990s comics lineup of characters you’ve never heard of except Flash and Green Lantern.”

Any “fan” would know that not a single one of those characters is from the 90s. Atom and that Green Lantern are from the 60s. Martian Manhunter has been around since the 1950s.

    That said, it still sucks.

  8. Rodney says:

Mike, anyone sporting geek cred would likely have good grammar as well.

The post says that the LINEUP was from the 90s. Not the characters.

And most people outside of comic book fans wouldnt know who any of these characters are outside of Green Lantern (but they wouldnt know Guy Gardner) and the Flash.

  9. JAMIE says:

actually, i have no trouble believeing that the JLA film might be worse then this pile of camel shit.

unless of course they take their time (which theyve been doing) and cast good actors (which theyve smartly have NOT been doing)

  10. Timothy Dark says:

Yeah this sucks…. but for the record I would like to say that
I wish they would stop putting these non super hero people in the midst of a superhero story. Just let them fight super villains and save the world.
This reminds me of how much I hated those stupid kids and Wonderdog being in the old school cartoon. I couldn’t wait for the episodes with the Legion of Doom.

    TD

This might have been the lamest thing i’ve ever seen, ever.

    No, No sir.

  12. kiyo says:

wow! this was just beyond words. the ppl behind this masterpiece should be congratulated on their record breaking abilities of producing the most cringe worthy, unwatchable, wtf! tv ever! kudos guys. we mere mortals can only stare in wonder at the brilliance behind you mind-raping abilities

the only reason the big three Superman,Batman, and WonderWoman didnt appear in this version is because they are kept under Warner Bros. contract in case they decide to make a movie with these characters even though WonderWoman has never been on the big screen Warner keeps a vault of scrips that they let get out dated waiting for the right woman to play the sexy amazon. The line up of this perticular justice league appear during a time when there were several justice league teams all over the world including Europe which featured wonderwoman and flash as occasional members the tv pilot was missing Boostergold, BlueBeetle, Bloodwind, and maxima queen of planet Almerac.who made of Justice League America.
