Lucas Is Game For Indy 5

By Doug - May 19, 2008 - 07:30 America/Montreal

Indy-2It looks like George is already mulling about another Indiana Jones adventure. We get the following scoop from the man himself via our friends at comingsoon:

Fox News’ Roger Friedman caught up with George Lucas at the Cannes Film Festival who revealed there’s more than a strong possibility there will be a fifth “Indiana Jones” movie.

“I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,” he told Friedman. “But I have an idea to make Shia [LaBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.

If don’t think I have any desire to see Indiana Jones as a supporting character. I have not yet seen this film, but one of my fears was that this movie would set the stage for Shia to be the lead in future films. I would rather see Indy die than have him become a sidekick to his son; this is not the way I want to remember the character.

I hope Lucas is stopped, or another idea for a story comes about. I would rather see a film where Indy gets a camel drunk and they try on hats for 90 minutes. I simply fear that Indy is going to be put through the shitter like Darth Vader was in the prequels.

International friends; would you be comfortable seeing Indy as a sidekick to Shia, or would this make you physically ill?

    thats a horrible idea…awful

  2. Slushie Man says:

I’m down for it, as long Steven is.

  3. nbakid2000 says:

He’s having a laugh the fanboys. He knows we’ll take anything he says and analyze it to no end. This won’t happen.

  4. Ouija says:

Lucas has lost his mind, I thought you guys knew this…you did see the Episode 1, 2 and 3 of Star Wars, right?

  5. DJ Machismo says:

I would like to see an Indy 5, and I will leave it at that.

  6. dave says:

Indy as a side-kick? that has got to be the biggest load of bullshit since greedo shooting first. Lucas needs to have his ass kicked by a few of us fanboys and then maybe he will start to realise that he is not the 2nd coming and could very well end up in the same sinking raft as someone like Uwe Boll. Screw George Lucas he seems determined to ruin every movie I ever gave a shit about whats next he gonna buy evil dead and turn it into a cartoon

  7. AjaxLou says:

More fodder for the Lucas has lost it theory.

  8. Kamish says:

It’s called passing the baton, Ford, as much as I love him, can’t play Indy forever…I say give Shia a shot, he has yet to disappoint…

  9. Jake Vermont says:

Yes give Shia a shot but they shouldn’t call the Movie Indiana Jones and if it’s not titled Indiana Jones it’s no Indiana Jones……… So why even thinking of it as an Indiana Jones Movie it wont be one with Indy’s son as a main character…..

another question: what title could the next movie have??

Jones Junior – and the Secret of Hamunaptra

Then they could involve Imothep who disappeared since Mummy2 :(

Or: Mutt Williams – and the golden Aborigine

Just to visit australia too :D:D…. U see? that wouldn’t be an Indy Movie any more…. :(

    Any other title suggestions?

  10. @spence says:

Indiana Jones’s Son: the Temple of Fucking Stupidity….there’s your title
    WTF. Indiana Jones as a side-kick, WTF…..

    WTF

  11. Mike says:

I’m with Jake Vermont. If you’re making an Indiana Jones movie without Indy as the main character, then it’s not an Indiana Jones movie. And I have no interest in seeing Shia take the lead, I don’t care what his performance is like in this one. He’s already headlining one movie franchise. Stick to the giant robots, kid.

  12. jason bourne says:

    stupid idea

  13. Jake Vermont says:

Indiana Jones’s Son: the Temple of Fucking Stupidity

Spence thats great I’d like to see that movie…….. but only if produced by ASYLUM :)

  14. haole says:

I would probably watch the drunk camel/trying on hats movie, but I think it goes without saying that Indy would have to be drunk as well

  15. @spence says:

    @ jake

yeah that would work lol :)

  16. James says:

It goes without saying, so I’ll type it instead:

Indiana Jones should NEVER be the sidekick.

I once had a passing thought that down the line they could bring in different actors (ala the Bond series) to do various installments of younger Indy adventures, but that is myself being delusional perhaps…

Ford is Indy, Indy is Ford. Let the movie series stay at four films and leave it up to the novels and comics to continue the adventures…

  17. Shane says:

Yeah I agree with Mike. Shia can’t be the lead in an Indiana Jones franchise and an extremely popular science fiction franchise too. That would NEVER work.

  18. Will George Lucas PLEASE stop making movies and just cloister himself at ILM where he can play with his computers until the end of time?

    Vic

  19. 46and2 says:

The idea isn’t impossibly bad… just the She-a part. Maybe Short Round instead? Doug, I’m with you 100% on this one.

    P.S. I hate people who say “110%”…

  20. M says:

It takes another 20 to make.

  21. M says:

It takes another 20 years to make.

  22. Ricci says:

Does anyone remember a time when Lucas ‘didn’t’ belong in the looney bin! get the hell out of film chump, you suck!

  23. Persetti says:

I don’t know, maybe when Shia grows up a little and Harrison Ford is about to die of old age…

  24. jamiewan says:

Well now that we’ve seen that Crystal Skull sucks, why not just let the thing stay dead. No need to drive it any further into the ground, unless they want to make a new film” Indiana Jones and the Lost Movie Franchise”

no way! only Harrison is Indiana.George should listen to the millions of Indy fans and make the fifth film soon and it should be done like Raiders was

  27. Mike Mustard says:

Ok, first of all, Lucas killed off Darth Maul WAAAY too soon. Surely we can all agree on that.

Maybe the Shia thing could work with the right writers. But, I don’t think Lucas is the right writer. I think I would rather see Ford replaced (as in the Bond movies) and the character continued in the 1930s period.

If Lucas replaced Ford, who would you like to see as Indy?

My vote goes to Matthew Fox.

  28. nik webster says:

as long as harrison ford is in it then iam good with having shia as the lead actor and indy the sidkick becuse you will have the fill of last crusade and iam shure that indy will still have a fight scene o

  29. The credible hulk says:

In the word(s) of Darth Vader Anakin Skywalker George Lucas: “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

  30. Mark says:

the young indiana jones spin-off was also missing Ford in it (logically, because it was young indiana jones) and made it less fun to watch.

the same here when Indy movies are without Indy in it (or just as side-kick). Hellraiser had the same issues, with less and less Pinhead (30 sec. screentime and 1 sentence for Pinhead, and they call it a hellraiser movie).

Just one final installment with Ford in the lead and then leave it at that… will make a nice 5-movie box for Christmas 2010.

  31. ian says:

    That would be pretty cool…
