It looks like the legendary “on the fly” engineer MacGyver may be getting his own film. We get this surprising news from Gizmodo via slashfilm:
Today at Maker Faire 2008, MacGyver creator (and real life inspiration) Lee David Zlotoff announced he has a big budget MacGyver movie in the planning stages.
Zlotoff mentioned he somehow ended up with the movie rights years ago (extremely uncommon), giving him full control over the film. While few specifics were mentioned, and no formal announcement has been made, its extremely promising that the man with the power to make the film is getting the ball rolling.
If they have Richard Dean Anderson reprise his role as MacGyver, I will be interested in this project. I see no reason to hire someone else when the man still looks the same. I think he is an immortal, and for that reason alone – he deserves the gig.
I never got into the television program as a kid, but I know many people were fans of the show, and many MacGyver jokes continue to be thrown around to this day. In Half Baked there was even a gag about “MacGyver” bong smiths that could make a pipe out of the most obscure objects.
in this upcoming picture maybe MacGyver can get captured in Afghanistan by terrorists, and use his know-how to build a robot escape suit. That would make for an excellent film!
Would you guys welcome a MacGyver film, or has the opportunity passed?
