All you people need to relax, I can’t believe that there is this much attention being put towards a comic book character being re-imagined as someone of a different ethnicity. Think about that for a second, a comic book character. How many times over the years (twenty or so) have writers changed things, killed people only to bring them back, and come up with absolutely ridiculous explanations to support a story that wouldn’t sell shit if it was not for the beautiful art work that accompanied them? The fact of the matter is that comics books for the most part are totally illogical but yet some people take issue with a characters skin pigmentation…………hilarious.

im not saying SLJ isnt a good actor or anything, but he was nick fury in the ‘ultimate’ series. the movies that are in production are def the original avengers. Even Thor and Captian America movies are being slated for the next couple of years. the nick fury i remember from the original issues of the avengers is definitely a different guy from SLJ. he was a white, cigar smoking, tough guy war leader. this is supposed to be from the good ol days. personally i really cant see a black guy leading in war in those times anyway. world war 2 hero. ookkayyy there were barely any black leaders in that time and i doubt thered be mad white guys following him. 1960s and 70s, that just didnt happen. change can be okay sometimes, but wheres the original nick fury?? he was the best. so gayyy

yh nick fury should be black, but i think they should make spawn and blade white to be more appealing to white people and any one who disagrees is a hippocrat.
if they can make white chars black then they should be able to make black chars white, how about a new film with shaft being white??
or hancock 2 and replace will smith hom hanks.
and before people start calling me racist i am black and even nick fury being turned black has pissed me off since i know if they ever made blade white there would be a uproar

Let me just add to this old tired racial rubbish I am reading! Jesus had to be black born in Bethlehem but always white in pictures and film, Cleopatra the queen of Egypt ( thats in Africa by the way ) is always white in movies. One of the most famous Catwoman actresses was Eartha Kitt ( a black woman ). It’s good that Marvel has gone with the Ultimates version because the world needs it. Why? Because the reason it is an issue with some ignorant uneducated fools. Good role models thats why! Why do you think that Denzel or Wesley or Will always have hispanic or black girlfriends, try to think of a movie which ain’t about race where they have been white heroines with black heroes. In fact the only superheroes the earlier doofus could mention where Blade or Spawn, 1 half breed vampire the other the devils soldier, I really wanted to be them and not Supes or Spidey when i was a kid! Thats why 50 cent and the other Gangstas get so much air time to give Black kids someone negative to look upto, Don’t believe me? then why don’t i see D’angelo or Maxwell + many others up in lights and they have alot more talent. When Captain Kirk was the 1st man to kiss a black woman on t.v. America went Mad and now in 2008 it ain’t no better. It’s a DIFFERENT version so get over it! Plus in the old marvel universe Tony Stark kept is Iron Man identity a Secret for a longer time so this was obviously the Ultimates version. Did you the idiots cry when Harvey Dent was played by Billy Dee (black) Williams? No! why? Because he wasn’t a major character, But now he has a major part in The Dark Knight what race is he? Would love to see a major Superhero who is Black get a Big budget movie maybe Luke Cage or Black Lightning or even The Falcon, but the truth of the matter is that the studios would not invest, why not? because the characters are not popular enough and the reason for that is due to the push they never had due to RACE. ( evil circle ). If you want more proof check this one out, sorry to stray just making my point, Rapper and producer Timberland has been around for ages, having many albums of his own and he was the man behind Aaliyah, Missy Elliott and Ginuwine, but he only achieved major fame worldwide when he produced beats for Justin Timberlake. Now he can ride on the white bus! So if Nick fury is black, I hope Captain America is the Black 1 who also got the Super Soldier Serum as well, now that would really mess up some peoples heads.

Oh and I also noticed the ” maybe next time” statement and I whispered to my Girlfriend oh that’s going to be Ironmans sidekick War Machine, I didn’t see or notice any Avengers hints, but after the S.L.J appearance I did immediately think , oh they are going to make a Nick Fury movie, also Nick Fury is not the only character to have the ability to change race at will in the Marvel universe , or should I say Universes?, The KingPen was black in the Daredevil movie . LoL.

When I used to read the Spiderman comics (before and around the time Todd McFarlen was drawing Spiderman) when Nick fury would make an appearance , I thought Fury was a great character just the way he is, my first time seeing Nick Fury as a black guy was when I bought the Ultimate Spiderman video game , I remember thinking , ” that’s not Nick Fury, that’s a black dude, I thought maybe they killed off Fury and replaced him with a black dude who is now using Nick Fury as a code name or Honoring Nick Fury by taking his name while filling in or taking over for Nick Fury, I had no Idea that Nick fury now has a new Superpower ” the ability to change race” lol! That’s pretty cheesy to me, I now have the Marvel Ultimate alliance and nick fury is still a white dude with grey sideburns, also in the Punisher videogame Fury is still a white guy fighting alongside the Punisher and the Black cat, I thought Fury was black only in that one video game, until I saw the Ironman movie after the credits with S.l.J., What the hell is going on in the Marvel Universe? They now have another Marvel universe to confuse the crap out of the old Marvel fans or what? I can understand them killing off a character and replacing that character with someone of a different race like maybe creating a new Cap with a black dude to replace the dead one, but changing a characters race entirely all for the sake of being politically correct is pretty anoying and makes readers lose interest in comics all together.

Alright, you all are one sided here. Nick Fury, Black or White.

Well, I loved the movie but, I don’t like RD Jr. Not my fav., I think Dermot Mulroney would have been a much better Stark. He has a rougher voice and I think more of the Drinkers ravished/induced look to him. More beliveable as a millionair playboy. RD Jr. did however pull it off and I commend him for it.

I would appreciate much if Sam Jackson was nowhere near the IronMan sequel, maybe the third thou. I would however like to see a War Machine in the next film and The Mandarin. The terrorist group in the film was called the Ten Rings (mentioned twice)and, if you noticed Raza wore a fairly large red ring on his hand. Is he going to be looking for the other nine? Is Raza the Mandarin? The way they made it makes me think that, so shame on them if they misled me.

I am sum what dissapointed they would clutter any following Iron Man movies with any Avenger crap. I could see it at the end of the second or even all of the third movie. But come on, cluttering a movie that has such possibilities for the development of Iron Man, with Fury crap and Avenger mish-mash is a bit deppresing. Make a Fury movie (thats GOOD) before you jam him into someone elses movie. Come on! A bit dissapointed about that.

Another thing is in all the trailers for Iron Man, RD Jr. turns to some one off screen and says, “Have fun trying to keep up,” while in the suite. They cut that out or I completly missed it. I would assume that if that scene was not in the movie, that he was talking to Terrance Howard, before he takes him up for a test run in the War Machine suite. Hence they would put that scene in the second movie.

Not enough Iron Man action in this movie but, the building and developing of the characters was much appreciated. So I would assume the next film will be packed with action. I just want to see the suite in action! Iron Man is my by far favorite out of any comic book superhero. He beats Spidy, The Bat or any X-Man hands down. I knew right after Transformers (which was a let down) that they finaly have what it takes to make an Iron Man movie. Weeks later guess what Iron Man rumors. I almost messed my pants. I pray they don’t clutter the next film with any Fury crap.

And who really cares what color he is, come on. The issue is not Samuel L. Jackson being black. He is a horrible, one dimensional actor. Every movie I have seen him in, I can’t help thinking how bland he is. Every one of the characters he’s played in any movie he is always the same person he has no depth. He screams his lines and shouts at people. He is cursed with being type cast and it’s his own falt. The only time he swayed from his normal role was in Unbreakable, and that was a horrible movie. However I do like M Night Shamalans movies. I just don’t like Jacksons characters. To me there is no difference between they guy he played in Pulp Fiction, XXX, or Deep Blue Sea. He always seems to act the same. Again, no depth. Sorry Sam. So dissaprove of him for being a bad actor not for them making Fury black. Any color will do just need a good actor. Yeah Sam is bad ass. But he’s gotten a little stale for me.

No, I didn’t doge your “point” because you have no point.

Batman was a detective in the 1960’s and he was a MUCH different character than the one they portray in begins or dark knight. Significant different character in both tone and substance.

Sorry dude, but changing the color of Nick Fury’s skin is a far less drastic difference than what Batman is today compared to what he originally was.

Revisionism is when you go back and change what was. Moving forward with new stories (like marvel has in the comics) and new starts is not “revisionism” no matter how much you try to make it sound as such, because it’s something new.

If Marvel went back to re-printed the original old comics with Nick Fury in them and changed him from white to black, that would be revisionism, but that’s not what’s happening here.

You should really educate yourself on the definition of words in their proper context before trying to use them in an argument or debate.

A costume change or update is not a substantial alteration to the character or environment. This also says nothing for fictional continuity issues.
