Patrick Fugit tops the list of Spiderman Hopefuls

By Rodney - May 27, 2008 - 17:09 America/Montreal

With Sony coming through to renew their rights for the Spiderman franchise it is all but certain that they will be bringing us a film. But with the original cast all but saying they are done with the franchise it stands to ask the question. Who will be Peter Parker.

A couple names have come up, but the fan favourite Jake Gyllenhaal out, the name Patrick Fugit seems to be topping the list.

/Film offers:

Now comes word via LatinoReview that Patrick Fugit is the top name in the running to replace Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Now of course, no contracts have been signed, and the films have not even been officially greenlit (at least from a public perspective), so in other words – nothing is final. You probably recognize Fugit from his breakout performance in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous

He did a fine job playing the part of the awkward shy geeky not so cool guy that Peter Parker has always embodied.

After seeing that picture beside Tobey it almost seems like they were trying to get an actor that simply looked like him, but with Fugit they might get a decent actor out of the deal too.

The other name that has fluttered out of the mists was Michael Angarano. Although he also has the personality to play Peter Parker, I just couldn’t see him as a feature film Spidey. He was alright in the silly light Superhero comedy Sky High, which I didn’t mind at all.

If not Fugit, who could you see putting on the webbed underoos?

I am not sure. i really liked Maguire as Spider-Man. maybe Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) in the X-Men movies.

youre right and that is one part of peter parker that defines him- but i think weve had enough of that side of him..i would like to see more annoyingly sarcastic funny backtalk that he does to villains in serious situations. i want a funnier spiderman that is a lot more sarcastic and less emotional..i thought that hed do that in SM3 because there were so many bad guys so naturaly hed talk more but- turned out he just cryed more

maybe the main character from the movie 21 (..dont remember his name im sorry)

  3. Andee23 says:

Has Emile Hirsch’s name come up as one of the possible actors to take over the role. I personally think he would be great casting and play an excellent Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

  4. Rodney says:

Again, Marvel has already said they wont repeat roles with actors. I know people are going to assume Ryan Reynolds since he is playing Deadpool and once played one of the Nightstalkers or whatever they called Blade’s sidekick characters. I don’t think that counts.

But Aaron Ashmore (his twin brother) could if they want to overlook him playing Jimmy Olsen on Smallville.

  5. lyle says:

Jim Sturgess would do and awesome job at it. Hazmat I think that is the guy you are thinking of! He was in Across the Universe also!

  6. FredMillerTurdMonkey says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Emile Hersh at all.

I have the ultimate casting choice! Shia….Lebouf.

I win. The golden boy himself (atm).

  7. 790 says:

There not going to replace Tobey so dream on..

The fact that there shooting back to back practically guarantees Tobey and Raimi will be back.
    Do the math…..

  8. Robert(wolf) says:

The guy does have the look and from what people are saying he is a decent actor. So I would have no problem if he got the part.

  9. Mkfreak2 says:

I’d rather see fucking Quentin Tarantino play Peter Parker than another geek loser actor. I’m sick and tired of whining and emo-ness.

  10. Jon H says:

    Then um…don’t watch Spider-man?

Seriously, if you don’t like whining, just go watch fucking Die Hard or something.

  11. George says:

tobey maguire will be back. just you watch. sony will offer him too much money for him to turn it down.

  12. shadopup says:

That picture doesn’t make the actor look similar to McGuire or Parker. He looks more like an emo rock guitarist which is definitely not the look for Peter Parker.

Freddie Prinze Jr.? Ah, just kidding, not really sure. Other than the blue eyes, Tobey’s look was pretty close to that of Peter Parker.

Thankyou!! My thoughts exactly! I know Peter Parker is supposed to be a nerd and a geek but not an annoying whiny little bitch like Tobey Maguire did it as

  14. Johnson says:

I agree with less emo whinny spidey and more funny sarcastic spidey please!

  15. Goodly says:

I read somewhere that Adam Brody might be interested. (From The O.C.) Still geeky and emo-y, but I actually think he’d be pretty good. Much better at jokes than Tobey and slightly cooler… but still a geek. Unless he’s still caught up in that whole messy Justice League-affair…

  16. HAZMAT says:

its not realyl the actors fault, they make him say whats on the script- if anything its the writers fault. i guess that if they told him to make jokes in the movie and not cry he would have done it.

so it might not be the actor…if any of the people you guys are talking about would have been spiderman in spiderman 1 2 and 3 he still would have been a sensitive emo guy nontheless…and wed be talking about tobey mcwire being spiderman…

so i think that they should just make the movie right next time no matter who peter parker is (now if your argument is how he looks then yes- thats another topic)

  17. Slushie Man says:

“He looks more like an emo rock guitarist which is definitely not the look for Peter Parker.”

Yeah, cause you know, they can’t change how a person looks or anything for the movie shoot…

  18. Meli says:

I need to forgot about the travesty of SM3 before I can even consider watching another installment.

Emile Hirsch? If they were to cast him I’d be completely out. I can’t stand that actor…and I use the word actor loosely. His presence on screen annoying as all hell.

Mmm…I don’t know who I’d want to see in the Spidey costume…I’m good with Patrick Fugit, I think he could do it…if they’re going to carry on the same feel they started with Tobey. Though I do hope they give him slightly more of a backbone for his every day life and stop with the whiney crap…it’s been draw out too long.

  19. Kristina says:

They should have cast Topher Grace as Spiderman instead of miscasting him as Venom. Now THAT guy could have pulled off Spidey’s little quips and jokes. Spidey is actually supposed to be funny and have a personality, but you’d never know that by watching that humorless android Tobey up on screen. Just seeing his face puts me in a depressed mood faster than my Evanescence CD.

  20. Troy says:

Kristina I agree wholeheartedly…Topher should’ve have been Spidey.

But how about Chris Masterson or Ryan Gosling?
As for MJ: Amy Adams or maybe Kristen Bell? Mmmm…Tricia Helfer…We’ve seen we every color hair, why not Red?

God I hope they don’t try to put Timberlake or Paul Walker in this either!!

  21. Kristina says:

Amy Adams, love her to death, but she’s too old for MJ. They should have cast Bryce Dallas Howard as MJ instead of as Gwen Stacy. That girl is just stunning(and a natural ginger to boot!). I could believe Spidey risking his life for a girl that stunning and with the spark that she showed onscreen in Spidey 3, not that dead, lifeless, snaggletoothed, Billy Corgan lookalike Dunst.

  22. Kristina says:

I just realized that they had the two perfect people for these roles and miscast them BOTH in Spidey 3. Shit.

  23. Freddy J says:

    “Kristina

I just realized that they had the two perfect people for these roles and miscast them BOTH in Spidey 3. Shit.”

Yup. They even had the characters personalities switched. Mary Jane should have been the outgoing, party girl type.

They should have just kept Gwen Stacy out of it altogether, it was too late to bring her in.

  24. HAZMAT says:

hey- at least they NAILED the green goblin….NO one in this green earth could have pulled it off better then Dafoe…

carnage should seriously be jim carrie in spiderman 4- better then woody harrelson

they seriously neeed to consider geting electro and scorpio in the upcoming films.

  25. nbakid2000 says:

There’s something about Topher Grace being a lead actor that rubs me the wrong way…

Not because I dislike the guy or anything, but I’ve seen him in a leading role and he just doesn’t have the presence or something. Something is missing there.

    Anyone feel the same way?

  26. Marc says:

I think Adam Brody would be great. After all, he already played Spider-Man once…sort of…
