Remembering the Great New Line Films
As all of you know, New Line Cinema is no more. Absorbed and assimilated (resistance is futile) into the collective known as Warner Bros. It is a shame that it’s gone. New Line has brought us some amazing and iconic films over the years, and today Alex Vo over at Rotten Tomatoes put up a list of 25 of the best films offered up by New Line in remembrance of the fallen studio. I certainly don’t agree with all the films on the list, nor to I really agree with the order they appear in… but still, it’s a great article. Head on over to Rotten Tomates and read the thoughts behind each film’s selection. It’s a fantastic article.
That is certainly one crappy list. I most deffinately do not agree with that order at all. SOme of them shold not even be on any list except for awful movies made by a company. Of course, opinions are subjective.
It might sound silly but ‘The Mask’ would definately be on that list for me. When it came out, it was all kids my age could talk about for 2 years straight and i still think it’s a great little film.
It’s an impressive list to look at none the less; they really did produce some quality and diverse films in the 80’s and 90’s. We won’t forget you New Line.
No Blade II? *throws rotten tomatoes*
I’d put Return over Fellowship, not just because I find it the superior film, but also because of the Oscar motherload that thing brought it.

The Mask was a fun flick, no doubt. I still stop and watch it when it comes on TV. It’s the one time that I can actually stand Jim Carrey’s overacting ass:)

I got a bigger bone to pick with this list.
First off, let’s take are of the most shocking ommsision, shall we?
House Party. Yes, Elm Street was NL’s bread and butter, yes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should be there…but I am *stunned* that the first House Party isn’t there! That made a TON on money for the studio in 1990, didn’t it??
I’d question where ‘Wag The Dog’ is as well.
So…what would I bump off? Well, the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- which NL only had a hand in in its 1980 re-release. I would not consider that “a great New Line” film. Everything else is subjective…but it’s sad that New Line’s sub, Fine Line only gets one in there- The Player.

glad to see the first TMNT movie up there (although it should definetly be higher). Easily one of the best comic book movies ever.
