he said many times before he owes the show for his success and he's here until the end. he loves the work, the coworkers, and the pay. it's been said before that he is the nicest guy in the biz, so i think leaving this role and potentially putting many of the cast and crew out of work is something he would never want to be a part of. good for him. unless the writing gets so bad that the show needs to die. in that case, i'd hope for them all to get out for something better. for now though, the office still rules.

Precisely Tom.

Other cultures handle their franchises very differently and though everyone wants to think we North Americans are just a European extension, we do have very different ways of dealing with things.

Take a look at the Asian markets and how they handle shows. My wife watches a lot of those programs and they run until they are done ratings or not

"The show seems to just keep going beyond its predecessor in the UK that only saw Ricky Gervais series through two seasons."

Sounds to me like you thought that might not have been how they'd hoped it would run, if only it had been more popular or successful etc. It's actually quite common here in the UK where even the most popular stuff (from Fawlty Towers to The Fast Show, or The Office or Queer As Folk, which was also two seasons long in the UK and endless in the US...) only runs as long as the talent involved want, not as long as possible if it's still a money-spinner.

Don't think you were having a dig at Gervais or the UK version, but the way you phrase it highlights how differently things are done between the UK and US, I reckon.

Carell isn't *that* big of a movie star yet.

Evan Almighty BOMBED (Carell should've realized how bad the script was) and the only other two huge movies he's led in were Virgin and Get Smart, which took 39 Million over the weekend. So he's getting there, if he continues to take on GOOD projects.

And I don't think he'd leave the series for movies, he doesn't seem like that type of guy to up and leave what's made him popular all of the sudden.

No. He's said time and again that we won't be leaving The Office until it's done its run, because he loves the show and the people he works with so much, plus it's a steady paycheck.

I have no doubt that if Get Smart did better, he'd still wouldn't leave the Office. And it's not like Get Smart bombed. It actually did decent. And it's only opening weekend. It will make more money in the months to come as well.
