Hayden Christensen Talks About Status Of Jumper 2

By Doug - June 9, 2008 - 11:21 America/Montreal

Hayden ChristensenHayden Christensen was recently dishing about the Jumper sequel with The Winnipeg Sun. We get the following scoop from our friends at the moviehole:

“We’re talking about it,” the 27-year-old Canadian actor says, adding that he’d definitely be on board. “I know that they’re having those conversations, I hear about them”. “It was set up to become that — a trilogy — if it did well,” says Christiansen. “And I think they’re happy with how it did so they want to make another one. But I don’t think they’re rushing to get into production.”

The first film was so blatantly set up for a sequel that the story suffered for it. Jumper had a lot of stuff to like, but it kept killing itself with lame scenes and an annoying love interest. I certainly think a sequel will happen, but after the first – I am not that interested in checking it out.

If however, they are able to learn from the mistakes of the first film and bring us a kick ass action film, I may change my tune, and eat my words.

SAw this movie on saturday and i must say it had a lot of potential, but they failed to flesh out the villains. We need a reason why the paladins do what they do

    • Tyler says:

Umm they gave a reason he said that only god should have the power to be anywhere and anyplace at all time.

      • Joel says:

Well, that’s a very vague definition. The first film, before all the sequels, should properly lay out a firm, solid foundation and the following installments should proceed from there…

This movie would’ve been below average for me, if the idea didn’t have a lot of potential. I really quite liked the idea of what he is, and his mom being a Paladin and all that, but that’s as far as it gets. There wasn’t much of a purpose, and the plot was a lost cause.

The character ‘Griffin’ is one part that was good, because his presence explained the purpose of Paladin, but there were some contradictions. His character has a potential of being the main character in possible spin-offs.

I hope they don’t revert him to a side-kick in the next installments.

The romantic aspect of it was so cliched, and quite typical, but I can’t complain; that isn’t the most important part of the plot.

I just hope the next movie is fleshed out from every aspect, and they wouldn’t waste the opportunity of making this ‘trilogy’ reach it’s full potential.

I’d definitely give it another shot.

  2. Alex says:

The story for this was awful. Jamie Bell was the only good part, and Mannequin Skywalker was the worst. If they do one it should only focus on Jamie Bell’s character… oh, and have a decent story with a protagonist who’s not a douchebag.

  3. Rob says:

I enjoyed this film, and people who complain about them not explaining the paladins don’t really get it. This first Jumper was about Harden’s character and him learning his ability. The movie is from HIS perspective, not that of the bad guys, so obivously that is for the two sequels.

  4. sfsilver says:

Yeah this was a huge disappointment. The concept was cool but they really squandered the opportunity. If they can clean up some of the mess in a sequel then more power to them, otherwise why bother (I know to make some cash).

    • Emily says:

Many have said this – what should be done?
I want to hear some ideas. “clean up the ‘mess’” – how?

    • Jewel says:

So many have said this. “It needs to be fixed; the plot was a mess” and I want some ideas. Why did you think it was a mess and what could they have done better?

  5. In regards to the first film…
The plot was a mess, the acting was bad, the characters paper thin, FX were horrible and action confusing.

    Rob is spot on.
I didn’t get it, and I never, ever will.

  6. Simple Simon says:

I saw Jumper on a plane. Funny how only the crappy movies end up on planes. I could find nothing to enjoy about it. From the very first that we learn of Christensen’s power, we see that he is a self serving jerk. He never even sheds a tear over the people he could’ve saved. He is never redeemed…he stays the same throughout the movie. I couldn’t identify with him and I certainly couldn’t feel sorry for him. The jumping also seemed disjointed…I know the idea is that they can go anywhere…there just doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason in his jumps. It didn’t flow. I don’t plan on seeing any more of these films.

  7. krazie835 says:

Awww, look at him in that picture. He’s sooooooo cute.

  8. vargas says:

The problem with creating a sequel to a lousy first movie is that sequels are usually even worse!

  9. Bruce says:

does anyone agree jumper is just a plan bad idea? people who can tellaport, so clearly talented people with creativity and people who can write died out years ago, thats why we see so much pop culture and comics on screen. If the jumper series is something that people actually think is a good idea then that is very very sad.

  10. HAZMAT says:

some movies need to either die or left forgotten. and sequels are not an option. this is one of those movies
jumper AND cacoon, meatballs, team america, kon fu hustle and critters

  11. hizmat says:

They should kill Hayden Christensen character in the second movie and just leave the Griffin character he was more enjoyable to watch on screen then Hayden’s acting, I just hated his character.

  12. HAZMAT says:

    out of all the names…hizmat?

  13. Josheewah says:

I watched Jumper tonight. I don’t agree with you. yes the back story was pretty much non exsistant. I dont think the acting was bad at all. i would love to have a sequel if they did it right. i was very unhappy when the movie ended . i didnt expect it at all. =[ def. left me wanting more. but thats just it. i wanted more. in all i enjoyed it. cant wait for the sequel.

  14. Ed says:

i watch a lot of movies, and that was one of theee must fun movies i’ve ever seen. i don’t get why so many people have nothing but bad comments, i can’t wait for the sequel. hating is a disease. get better soon.

  15. Champ says:

I thought that Jumper was an awesome film, it may have had a bit of confusion in it but that will all be sorted out in the sequel i imagine. I think its cool someone wants to do movies like this, when I rented it i watched it like 8 times, i couldn’t get over how intense it was. My friends agreed with me, its one hell of a movie! Hoping to see the sequel in production soon! Best of luck guys, make it even better than the first!

    • LOZ says:

I think jumper is great all of the special effects were awesome but the camera work could be better over all a awesome film I knew there would be a secound one because griffin was left stranded In the elecricty and at the very end milly and David had jumped to some where great ending great film awesome job guys. My favourite bit was when griffin and David had the jumper fight hope you include that in the secound one and again awesome job

    • LOZ says:

When will it be out hope soon

    • SockeT RockeT says:

I completley agree with you mate, jumper was an awesome movie with an awesome concept. As for the question “why do the paladins do what they do?” it’s actually answered many times in the movie. They have been doing it since mideval times, and they do it because they are religeous fanatics who believe that the jumpers are abominations, because no one should be able to do whatever they want exept god. The special effects were kick ass, especially the scars they left after that was cool. As for Hayden I felt that he was alot better in Jumber than he was in Star Wars.

  16. Champ says:

Only one thing i want to make sure i see in the sequel is that the other Jumper, the british one, can’t think of his name right off the top of my head, i want him back, he was awesome, especially when he ran at raynold ( i think thats right? ) in on of the last scenes kind of tele-running and smashed him through the wall, best part in the whole movie!

  17. Brian says:

Jumper was awesome and i can’t wait for the sequel.

  18. Jamie says:

Well personaly I loved Jumper!! It was very entertaining and the reason all things weren’t explained was to leave questions for the sequel..To all that disliked it..you deffinatley need to watch it again..It was a great movie!! Can’t wait for the sequel!!!!

  19. SA says:

This movie is totally of awesome worth right here!! Yes!! It’s got a Marvelish, X-menish, Daredevil type feel…Can’t wait for the sequel!!!!

  20. Warnpeace21 says:

That movie was bananas!! Great movie!! Don’t know why yal h8n on Hayden but he did his part (very well) may I add. Griffin was a beast from the start!! & the sequels will be fulfilling!! The only thing I didn’t like is that the movie ended too early. Otherwise his moms last words were the starting pistol for the sequels!! They jus hav2 get deeper n2 where the Paladins come from & y they chase Jumpers & they’ll b good. Oh & Griffins charge was beastie!! & somebody drunk on here said the FX were weak & confusing.. That’s cuz u 2 slow to keep up!! Don’t judge a movie because u don’t have the attention span 2 keep up with wats goin on. It was masterfully executed & easy to follow.. Come on with 2 & 3

  21. Jonathan says:

    What about Jamie Bell?
Other than Samuel L. Jackson, he’s the one who could act well.
Hayden Christensen is absolutely unfit of acting, in my perspective.

Did you see how hard he tried to form the expression of being sad when he realized that he missed the girl’s flight, and the moment where he tried to look agitated by the fact that Griffin was going to blow up the girl’s house?

    LOL.

  22. James says:

I loved this movie, it is soo set up for sequels, I couple of posters complained that he wasn’t a “hero”, why didnt he use his power to help people, why didn’t he save people, blah blah blah. Would you? If you woke up one day and found yourself with this power would you immediately think oh I can be a superhero!, (Where are my red boots and cape?)

I think Haydens acting was excellent, I think he played his character really well and would love to see him in sequels if the writers could write them correctly, that character could grow into being a hero by the end of sequels, but at first hes just finding out about himself. As for Griffin, yes his character was excellent but I dont think I’d be too interested in seeing a sequel that just followed his thirst for revenge, which is what it comes down to. Haydens character left IOU’s for his crimes, and said on two occasions in the film that he was different. that and the story of why the paladins are after the jumpers are what would make a good sequel.

  23. Ben says:

Sick idea. plot could be better. lookin forward to the sequel.

  24. BizWon says:

Very original storyline, excellent in that it obviously left us ALL on a quest for closure. To promote the budget for a sequel I would imagine the best way would be to get the audience wanting more.Certainly did that here. All be it, that some of it dragged a little, a few corny moments, but unless people were expecting Oscar Noms here, then what we’ve seen should be sufficient.I enjoyed the movie, but just like The Matrix, left us all wondering, what? How? Who? and of course Why?
Isn’t that what we all really want when we watch a flick. For it to almost never end, in a good way.Once the movie end our escape from our own world ends with it, thank God they’re fixin for a sequel, can’t wait.
PS – I’ve always been biast to Manny Skywalker, but sincerely beleive this is his kind of role in films, not the Vader/Mannequin Skywalker.

  25. Jp says:

Jumper 2…sounds awesome. Looking forward to it. And also to the critics, you people most be joking. Have you forgotten your childhood. Relax and try to enjoy!

  26. giffen says:

i found the movie to be entertaining and different from all of tha other superhero movies

  27. ESteban says:

Hayden was a pimp in this movie geting that hot azz chick rachel bilson. but seriosly how could u not like this movie. he does everything man teleporting to me was the best part. these movie producers really thought out of the box. and i sure as heck would wath the sequel. go jumper 2

  28. Chi says:

I really liked the movie. I thought Hayden Christensen did a lot better acting job then in ROS. The movie did have alot of ends it needed to tye up but other than that it was a pretty good movie and there should be a sequel.

  29. J.ROB says:

some people seriously dont know a good movie! AMAZING!!! had all my family and myself also jumping out of our seats with the fight scenes! like where griffin teleports a moving bus infront of roland (complete psycho!) and as mentioned before the sprinting teleporting smashing him thru the wall… Haydens acting was quality, the only reason ppl are sayin his role was crap is because they’re comparing his to Jamies too much! Jamies had been hunting the paladins for years as to Hayden being a rookie at this stage, only just finding out that there is even such thing as them!! can’t wait for the sequel!!!

  30. CJY says:

It was a good movie i enjoyed watching it, but they shouldve added a part of why paladins sought after jumpers
yes its like the matrix with who, what, when, why at the end, but thats what makes it good. Some people these days dont get it, its what makes the sequel BETTER!

  31. bugs says:

Great show but Hayden can’t act yet. he’s getting better though.
Griffen was a diferent character easier to play…only action and cause. The black dude just creaps me out in everyshow I have seen him in….which in turn gives him credit for doing his job. (Samual).
You have to understand that any new show that is unheard of won’t get a big budget. So that being said they did a pretty good job of completeing the project without dieing out in the end ( running out of money ) ****1/4

  32. Wyvern says:

Man its moderatly obviouse, I don’t understand why people are so confused about why the paladins do what they do. Its a religious aspect. over time theyre have been people with power, they have been hunting the jumpers, its almost like an ongoing witch trial. Paladins were holy knights for simple explination. Hayden got a bad wrap with starwars, that lucas tried to take the blame for. I cant say he can or cant act based on the 2(3) movies. In EP 2, it was by instruction and poorly executed, that Anikin was a whiney brat. He was suposed to be a teenager. Here, I felt he did a decent job, Hes not the best actor but, i cant say yet that hes a horrible actor. But look to see him in a sequal that will function to open up the story and history. The book Jumper was a personal struggle, one in which griffin didnt even exsist. All in all, I bought it.

  33. Danny says:

loved it, bring on 2 and 3!!
Hayden Christensen is amazing. And the sequel will obviously push on with the fact that his mother and maybe his sister could potentially be out for his blood.

although i did here that Rachel Bilsons Character learns how to “Jump”….dunno how i feel about that, but keen to see how it goes

  34. fmartinez23 says:

awesome movie!! watched it about 8 times and yes i heard rachel bilsons character millie will be able to jump. But i heard its because shes pregnant and she gets the powers from the baby or something. Idk but ill be ready for 2 and 3 anyway!!

  35. just elmo says:

i watched jumper andi must say it was a pretty interesting movie. i had to watch it a second time. yes i agree with some people that they should have flushed out the bad guys and reveiled their reasons a bit more and hayden’s character could have been doing alot more action. instead of being all caught up with his little girlfriend because, obviously it’s not just about him because their are more jumpers out there. but i also agree that the movie was from his perspective and but not about learning his powers. he obviously knows how to use them. so although it was a good movie it still had some major flaws but i would like to see a sequal, if they could flush out the flaws and plant a little more action into the movie and also not have the entire movie orbit around a love lust.

  36. Seth says:

haha…for those of you who don’t know why the palidins did what they did…you need to watch the movie more closely and get your heads out of your a**es…first off samuel l. jackson’s character explained why the world wouldn’t want people like jumpers there…THEY ARE AFRAID OF THEM! nobody would be comfortable with someone in the world who has greater power than themselves…it’s human nature…think about it…of course you love the idea of the jumper but saying they were real and you didn’t have the power…would you want someone who could just zip in your room kill you in your sleep and leave living in society…NO! that’s too much power for one person…that’s the epic battle in all mutan movies…superhero alike…if you’re not the person with the power you do not except the power…so clearing that mess up…does the movie make more sense? and of course there was a sappy love story…how they gonna get the female population without it? and even then some of the guys? rachel bilson is hot…her acting did suck…but she’s hot…and i do agree jamie bell’s character ,griffin, was a lot better but he’s only sidekick material…or the background guy…hayden christianson’s character ,david, did change somewhat…where as griffin would have killed all the palidins david did not…i believe david’s mom will play a role in the second one because he has to get away from her without hurting her…classic love/hate relationship of a movie…but aside from a few bad actors…hayden among them…the movie was actually really good…and it wasn’t as confusing as you all made it out to be…2 things…first common sense…and second…read under the lines…or think outside the box for a change…

  37. Elle says:

I liked the premise but I found the lead character to be kind of boring. I actually like that the main character isn’t a hero but I felt he was whiny and had no character development. The movie also felt very incomplete and choppy. There were parts thrown in that were supposed to feel dramatic but didn’t have any real build up. The scene where his father dies, which I forgot happened until reading a review about, felt boring instead of emotional. I also found his romantic relationship with the female lead rather uninteresting. I didn’t feel a lot of charge between them and they fell flat, mostly because I didn’t feel like could relate well to the main lead and the female lead wasn’t fleshed out enough that I could relate to her, so I was left going ‘Why would I care about the two of them together if I don’t even care about them seperately?’ I also would have liked to have seen more information about the paladins and their motivations besides just having this flat religious zealot stuff with no evidence or backstory besides a couple lines about it in the film. I liked the character Griffin and found that was the one character I could really relate too and would have enjoyed some more screen time and story about him. I would love to see him having to confront his need for revenge and develop as a character. Despite other reviewers saying that there is no where to go with him, I disagree. You could see that his character had some desire to connect with other people and have a friend (in the scene where he brings up superheroes) and I’d love to see him battle that need for connection with his need for destruction of the paladins. Otherwise I enjoyed the fx and the cool locations and was left wishing that they had done more with the premise and story and given us some interesting characters to seek our teeth into. I have little hope that the sequel will show any improvements, but I might rent it.

  38. Daemon says:

Personally i love the movie, and tbh those people who keep spouting out about it being to confusing further make me re-analyze the intelligence level of a lot of human beings. Seriously what isn’t there to get; why the paladins are killing them- obviously because their evangelistic assholes what more do you need they saying about 8 times throughout the entire movie… “only god should have this power”.

  39. rebecca says:

i liked it but i wish his mom was a jumper to

  40. Penney says:

I for one loved this movie and I thought it was well done. I didn’t however, like Rachel Blisson’s acting, I really cringe every time I have to see her act. It would be nice to see the romance keep going, but I just really hate that she has to be his love interest. I think they should have cast someone else to play her part.

And although I do love the movie, I think his relationship with the girl was a little too fast. I mean, they should have taken more time with their relationship.

But other than not liking the relationship too much and Rachel’s bad acting it was a great movie. ^.^

  41. Penney says:

Oh, and I can’t wait for the sequel!

  42. Penney says:

And one more thing, I don’t think Hayden Christensen’s acting was bad at all. Maybe he was a little self-serving at first, but he did lead a bad life as his younger self. He was trying to live the best life he could live and I’m not sure anyone could argue with wanting to live a good life. And I think he played his character very well, if you look at real people that don’t have very many friends as a younger person, or didn’t have the greatest parents, you might be a little emotionally challenged, and I think he wanted to pull that into his character. So maybe you should think about his character as a whole and you might understand why he didn’t act TOO completely emotional.

  43. Amy says:

i LOVED this movie. Saw it in the theater, bought it on Blueray when it first came out, and we’ve watched it multiple times since. CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL. So hurry up w/ it. And I found nothing wrong with his acting whatsoever.

  44. tim says:

In my opinion jumpers was one of the best most imaginative movies in recent times. I would defiantly watch any sequel that is released and buy the dvd. I have jumpers one dvd now.

  45. josh says:

Jumper is definately one of my favorite movies. I loved it. I personally cannot wait to see a sequel!

  46. Ken says:

you haters just don’t understand a good action film, who the hell cares about the story! This aint a drama son! stfu and go rent steel magnolia’s. This movie fuckin rocked.

  47. val says:

i think the movie was alright it was bad for the setting i did enjoy watching griffen and if they make sequal to this they should make it a alot better because this movie was kinda crappy

  48. anthony says:

    does jamie bell come back

  49. simon777 says:

Samuel L. Jacksons character tells you why paladins are killing jumpers , it’s because they “posses powers only god should have ” paladains are like religous radicals fearing jumpers will use there power for evil against humanity.

  50. Amy says:

I really dont know what everybody’s talking about. This movie was AMAZING ! The special effects, everything was great. And by the way the reason why paladins kill jumpers is because they think that only God should be able to be in different places all at once. It explains it quite well in the movie. There’s no reason to be confused. Well yeah the movie was awesome and id totally be up to check out the sequal.

  51. Ryan says:

Jumper is best movie ever made u jackasses need to go jump in a lake

  52. scott l. says:

i loved the 3 different jumper books. the movie was also very good.it wasnt perfect but what is.it was fun and had a little bit of everythingin it.hayden c might not be winning any acting awards anytime soon but who cares.i cant wait to see the next movie.i cant stand wannabe movie critics that go into movies looking for all the faults.how sad your lives must be.youve obviously got a computer so google the word “happiness” then go find some.i’ll spend my money on jumper2.you already think part2 sucks so save your money for your therapy.

  53. Tyler says:

Ok the Paladins are religion nut jobs. That’s why they want to kill jumpers. They think jumping is god’s power and only god’s power. Honestly if you grew up in a place where no one cared about you, if I got those powers I might not even think about saving people, Scientists would want to study you. The government would use you as a spy or puppet to do whatever they wanted.

  54. Slevin says:

i think it would be awesome if his sister was this really agressive paladin and was really good at fighting, and in the sequal they end up having this huge brawl. but David cant let himself kill his own flesh and blood and ends up trying to stop her from fighitng, and somehow she injures him badly. after doing this she slightly realizes how much he cares and has a little mercy, and later in the movie she’s killed by Rachel bilson or even one of her own!?

  55. Slevin says:

and to those who think it ended to early and everything was too fast, they’re gonna fit alot of important scenes into the nxt movies. and haydens acting didnt suck, just cuz Jamie was better at the whole killing paladins and jumping, doesnt mean hayden sucked, he JUST learned about the whole paladins vs. jumpers deal WHILE trying to keep his girlfriend safe, ask yourself, wouldnt you be a little speechless on what to do if u suddnely got the power to teleport, get the girl of your dreams, but suddenly have to fight an all out war with people trying to kill you? I think for the knowledge he had of everything, he played a great role, Hayden is more of a mellow guy, not all for violence and hate like Jamie’s character, thats why hayden did so good in this movie. cant wait for the sequel!

  56. Slevin says:

i just wanted to add that I also really like Jamie’s character, he had attitude and was really agressive when fighting, my overall favorite scene was the chase between him and griffin! also David’s apartment in new yokr was fucking awesome! imagine how expensive that would be!

  57. LEAH SHONE says:

how dare u all If you listen to the start he explains what it means its like a story theres a jumper book if you read it you will all understand it fully of the story about how his child hood has been messaed up by his mum she left him to join this nasty company to destroy the tellaportus to kill them off all together but we do know she had a affair with the actor off the vilan whos played by samuel l jackson and he has then picked up the power by his mum but didnt understand it all we know is he has got lots and lots off money and hes now rich from the scence in jumper one and we need a sexyer dirty raunchy lines and scences from jamie bell and the charcter off his girlfriend milly as we saw the sex wasent good they got there and then it stopped we need to see them do that again but more sexual or was he nervous about us seening him in bed having sex haahahahaha they were nearly there and i got exctid but then they stopped the scence i think guys theres gonna be a full extended dvd deleted scences very soon they did it again with coyote uguly because let down fans so they did it again so i think were gonna have a extended dvd out off all the stuff they took out off it that didnt add up the story in full deatile but i think there is a real jumper out there but he cant be to honest about everything and thats why we all didnt get the story lets just wait and see shall we if they do and then we will get all the truth in the end i think they should get rid off samuel L Jackson thou because there should be no evil involed and by the way there is a part two exepct its called PUSH SO I THINK YOU SHOULD SEE THAT ONE ASWELL ITS THE NUMBER 2 STORY IV READ UP ON IT SO PLEASE SEE THAT FIRST BEFORE JUMPER 2 AND U CAN GET THE CONCEPT THEN MORE DEATILE INTO IT THNAKS LEAH

  58. BOB says:

it was a good film but in the the second it has to explain more about Paladins and y they want to kill jumpers. they have to explain about his mother and how she became a paladin. if there is goin to be a second jumper they should do that because it will tell us about the concept of the film and will make the film so much better i think people will agree with me on this so i hope they make the film much better.

  59. Slevin says:

I think that they should have a big group of jumpers rather then just two

  60. Y9Power says:

    I agree with Slevin

  61. Y9Power says:

I agree with Slevin and BOB

  62. steph says:

i loved the movie!…. he is really hot too … i am looking forward to a 2ed!… and if you dont get it then you are stupid ..my two year old sister gets the plot …

  63. MovieFan says:

I don’t think all the haters appreciate the concept of this movie. Teleportation has to be intense, and the movie portrayed this aspect very well. Unfortunately, all these haters probably saw the movie in some crappy theatre or with their crappy entertainment system. In order to enjoy the movie you have to feel the sense of chaos that a jumper would feel going from one end of the planet to another in an instant. One hater said it was disjointing, of course, another said that the story did not make any sense, it did. Let me break it down for those people who have a hard time understanding space-time science fiction. A man can teleport anywhere in the world, he can wake up in NY, brush his teeth in Paris, then step outside into the streets of Hong Kong. Before someone gets accustomed to this life it would seem disjointing, and thats what the movie protrayed wonderfully. Haters need to understand the concept before the make stupid comments. If your constantly trying to dissect the movie, then your not allowing yourself to get caught up in the storyline. Learn to enjoy a movie and maybe you will be able to appreciate it.

  64. wayne says:

ok this is what i hate about forums every tom dick and harry thinks they’re a critic, the thing i hate about critics they never compliment a good movie they point out all the flaws, why dont you people stick to what you do best, leave the criticism to the critics that way they can cop shit for being pricks and shitting on a good film, use your imagination and have a sense of fun the movie was good, as for “him not having a rhyme or reason to jumping where he does” put yourself in his shoes if you could do what he can do would u jump places for a reason? or live life exploring the world and having fun? i know what i’d be doing

  65. jessica says:

i think the second movie should have the situation thats going to happen between david rice and his mother

  66. jessica says:

whats david rice’s name in real life when he was 15 iin the movie?
