Rapists beware! I Spit on Your Grave is set for a remake, and will educate another generation of victims on how to properly dispose of their attackers! We get the following scoop from the professionals at Variety:
CineTel Films has acquired rights to remake “I Spit on Your Grave,” the 1978 female revenge film that was reviled for its depiction of sex and violence. The remake rights were owned by Meir Zarchi, who directed, produced and wrote the original. Though the majority of CineTel’s releases are straight-to-DVD titles, the company will make “Spit” for a theatrical release.
As reviled as it was when originally released, “I Spit on Your Grave” was a precursor to a slew of female revenge film hits, Hertzberg said. Contemporary genre fare has become so graphically violent that the original doesn’t seem as outrageous as it did 30 years ago. Hertzberg is listening to pitches from writers on how to ratchet up the shock factor.
I Spit on Your Grave was no doubt quite the affair 30 years ago. It still remains a must see film for fans of the horror genre, and it’s no surprise that the remake machine has gobbled it up. What’ s unfortunate is that a direct to DVD movie house has acquired the rights. When the “shock factor” is the first item on the table for discussion – I tend to get a little skeptical.
As a funny aside Ebert (who hated the original) was contacted by Variety and asked for his thoughts on the remake. He simply said “that his hope is that this time, the result is a better film.”

The original film is pretty damn disturbing, I wouldn’t particularly call it good but it was disturbing. Truthfully, I don’t see this film as needing a remake other than to make possibly the most disgusting / disturbing film possible.
they’ll just PG this down. remaking this is pointless. it won’t have the disturbing edge the original had. It’d be impossible to make stuff like this or the goat-fucking Island Of Perversion nowadays. Films of the late 70s/early 80s got away with sooo much more & were bolder than things are now. i agree with what you said on the podcast last weekNagy. quit with the fucking remakes! especially on things people consider classics. Or,remake crap that had the potential to be great had it been tweaked a bit differently. i’ll give the concept of a ISOYG remake a bigass FAIL.
I think films like I spit on your grave benefit from the 70’s/80’s vibe and are a lot more disturbing then a remake where the film is edited with flash cuts and plays out like a music video.
I spit on your remake!
To day marks the day that hell as come up from below us.
I hate remakes!
And ReBoots (except Batman).
And maybe Star Trek ….?
@790…I spit on your remake!
Ha..Ha..feel the same way…
@Sir Jig-A-Lot ..”..Films of the late 70s/early 80s got away with sooo much more & were bolder than things are now…”
True, that’s why remakes don’t have the same impact and we now deal more with the PC bullshit.
I loved the original and hope the remake is even more graphic! can’t wait!!

I can see a bunch of feminists flocking out to theaters or renting this just to masterbate to it, as it fits their “stereotype” of men and lust to see them sexually mutilated. Since we are in the habit of flipping everything from male to female, lets do the reverse here and watch this same bunch cry and scream about it.
