Taboo Talks About Vega
It appears the Black Eyed Peas singer Taboo will be playing Vega in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. We get his take on the character thanks to an interview with our friends at MTV:
“I’m playing him a little edgier,” Black Eyed Peas member Taboo says of Vega, his character in the theatrical reboot of the iconic “Street Fighter” video game franchise. The rapper/dancer’s role will find him taking on the mask-and-claw character that made him a cult favorite to fans of the game.
I cannot say this news puts me at ease, or raises my expectations for the film. I am sure Taboo is a great dancer and singer, but why is he cast as the super acrobatic Vega? Shouldn’t a martial artist of the highest calibre been hired to fit the bill? I would have supposed so.
How do you play Vega edgier? He wears a metal mask and attacks with claws. That is pretty edgy in my books, in fact save for chain-saw hands I don’t understand what he’s trying to get at with that comment. MTV had a video clip featuring the interview with Taboo but it’s already been pulled. I guess we will see when the film comes out.
I have no expectations for this film and think it will be a write off like G.I. Joe.

Vega is supposed to be some sort of dreamy Adonis. Taboo…isn’t. He’d better keep the mask on.
This is just completely stupid. As stated above, Vega is meant to be extremely good looking. Hence why he wears the mask, to protect his good looks. Taboo is one ugly bastard.
Vega is supposed to be extremely fit and acrobatic. He should be played by a gymnast, a fantastic martial artist… but not a dancer.
If they wanted to “reboot” Street Fighter, they should have made a film based on the actual Street Fighter story and characters. What they’re doing this time around is exactly what they did which made the Van Damme one suck. Base it on the wrong character, cast people who don’t look like the characters, and have a story that just isn’t Street Fighter.
gotta agree with ya shane…their basing this one on chun li, that chinese whore! And there isnt gonna be any ryu or ken either…a complete let down.

Pull every movie!!!??? Am I the only one here who is actually looking foreword to the New Hulk movie, seeing as how the first was the most disappointing Marvel Movie to date.
But yeah moving on to the subject at hand. Even the concept of Street Fighter doesn’t strike me as interesting. Owwww!!!! They’re fighting! Who’d have figured that one. It’s already lost the battle, I’ve seen too many game to movie movies fail horribly.

How the hell does Taboo look half black? He’s hispanic, and Vega is a Spaniard, so I don’t see what you’re griping about. Taboo is probably the most humanely close thing we will ever get to Vega!
omg i think Antonio banderas was the perfect his hair is originally long and he is spaniard originally from spain but than again can he pull it off with the martials arts ????????????????????????? nop so thats why taboo end up here
I think they did a great job casting Taboo as Vega. I’ve played street fighter since I was young, alongside listening to Taboo AND learning what a great martial artist he is.
Yes, its true that vega is suppose to be extremely attractive. But who the hell do you expect to play an adonis who is not only a talented fighter and actor, but is inhumanely beautiful?

I also have to say I’m unimpressed by the amount of GUYS saying that he is unattractive. Not only is beauty subjective, it can pretty much be biased. Taboo is very attractive, PLUS he will be wearing a mask most of the movie, PLUS++ it (the movie) is probably going to be CG’ed to death anyways, so whats to say they wont alter his looks somewhat.
As for the rest of the movie, I’m giving it a little bit of faith. Though I think it should have been broader, instead of being based around Chun li (And maybe having a different actress playing her?), I think it deserves the benefit of the doubt.
He says that he plays vega edgier. In the game yeah he’s flamboyant but let me see cool snake tatoo with long razor sharp claws or plain black suite with long sharp rechtangle looking things…I wounder which is edgier. And as far as personality goes I think i’d be more afraid of a narcasistic blood licking matador than a more conventinal cool tough guy but hey this is just me. So in the end who realy cares. I personally like akuma the best.
