Blindness
We have a cool trailer for Blindness today. Thanks to our friends at firstshowing for the heads up!
This looks like a better Happening than The Happening! Everyone going blind is a creepy and fantastic idea and it gives me the willies. It’s no surprise that this film is being adapted for the screen by Canadian hero Don McKellar. He wrote the outstanding film Last Night and I am hoping for more of the same apocalyptic excellence this time out.
Blindness is expected in theaters September 19th.

I am ridiculously excited for this movie. I read the book a couple years ago, and I imagined Julianne Moore as the main character the whole time. So I was blown away when I heard she was going to star in the movie. But Mark Ruffalo?….meh.
That’s weird, didn’t the teaser have Moore speaking in a British accent? And great, great use of the Sunshine soundtrack in this trailer.
Talk about original ideas… ever seen the classic british SF movie “The day of the Triffids”?
Same premises – with ridiculous walking plants as the villains, though… and a great alcoholic scientist as one of the good guys, Iron Man style.
Nevertheless, I agree: a world going blind is a sight to see!!!
I totally forgot about that movie Claude. Yeah, it does have the same premise…with a girl that can see while everyone else is blind. Creeped me out as a kid.
wow!! cool, but i don’t think this’ll be in wide release, i mean i can see 500, and maybe expanding, but still looks cool
I also thought of The Day of the Triffids when reading this. So I guess it’s exactly like that, only without the triffids? Aren’t there any new ideas out there?
Oh, and not surprinsingly, it sucks. It already premiered at Cannes.
There are 3 negative reviews out of 4 on RottenTomatoes

On imdb it currently has a 6.5 rating, which spells average/mediocre.
Yawn
The book is one of my favorites of all time. It has incredible good pace and suspense. I remember thinking wile I was reading it that it would be imposible to make the book into a movie.
But then again I thought the same thing about the Perfume, and it turned out to be a quite interesting movie.
That’s funny that everyone thought of the Day of the Triffids when they saw this trailer. I also thought the same thing!
Love Triffids as a kid! Really freaked me out about a world going blind!! And the killer plants really freaked!
Trailer for blindness looks cool…like Juliane Moore and Mark Rafulo. If reviews for this movie are bad, like cib3k wrote…well might be a rental then.
Wow.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned this.
That was the plot from an episode of the 1980s revival of The Twilight Zone, CBS. Episode – “Many, Many Monkeys” from March 18th, 1989.
PLOT: An epidemic breaks out and many people are struck blind. Apparently some kind of biological weapon is responsible. However, a nurse, Claire, becomes convinced that the blindness is a manifestation of man’s inhumanity to man, and that mankind is becoming “monkeys”. At the end humanity finds a cure… but Claire remains blind, convinced only that when humanity “opens its eyes” will she be able to see again.
interesting. very interesting. and you gotta love anything with julianne moore
This is one instance where I think the movie will be better than the book… a story like this needs to be visual, and walk the fine balance between movie magic special effects, and a haunting story.
I wonder what the chemistry between Ruffalo and Moore will be like. (She wears a fatsuit for this role, apparently).
Anyway, it looks great and extremely creepy. (One of my biggest fears is waking up blind or deaf, shudder.)
Not sure if this is the ‘official’ page but here’s another trailer with synopsis et al.

I have some friends that this movie truly has offended. Not that they aren’t for freedom of speech or expression, but that the thought and message of being blind is actually not life ending. That blindness is merely a characteristic of a person just like skin color, or hair color and not a horrible deformity.
Life does exist for blind people just like anyone else. And very good ones at that. Mostly they try to educate individuals and groups that blindness might be challenging at times but surely not a horrible sentence. This movie is actually disgusting and hillarious in how they portray blindness.
I totally disagree with JULESV. Why does she take that too serious? Relax, darling! It’s just a great movie.
