I totally disagree with JULESV. Why does she take that too serious? Relax, darling! It's just a great movie.

I have some friends that this movie truly has offended. Not that they aren't for freedom of speech or expression, but that the thought and message of being blind is actually not life ending. That blindness is merely a characteristic of a person just like skin color, or hair color and not a horrible deformity.
Life does exist for blind people just like anyone else. And very good ones at that. Mostly they try to educate individuals and groups that blindness might be challenging at times but surely not a horrible sentence. This movie is actually disgusting and hillarious in how they portray blindness.

This is one instance where I think the movie will be better than the book... a story like this needs to be visual, and walk the fine balance between movie magic special effects, and a haunting story.

I wonder what the chemistry between Ruffalo and Moore will be like. (She wears a fatsuit for this role, apparently).

Anyway, it looks great and extremely creepy. (One of my biggest fears is waking up blind or deaf, shudder.)

Not sure if this is the 'official' page but here's another trailer with synopsis et al.

Wow.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this.

That was the plot from an episode of the 1980s revival of The Twilight Zone, CBS. Episode - "Many, Many Monkeys" from March 18th, 1989.

PLOT: An epidemic breaks out and many people are struck blind. Apparently some kind of biological weapon is responsible. However, a nurse, Claire, becomes convinced that the blindness is a manifestation of man's inhumanity to man, and that mankind is becoming "monkeys". At the end humanity finds a cure... but Claire remains blind, convinced only that when humanity "opens its eyes" will she be able to see again.

That's funny that everyone thought of the Day of the Triffids when they saw this trailer. I also thought the same thing!

Love Triffids as a kid! Really freaked me out about a world going blind!! And the killer plants really freaked!

Trailer for blindness looks cool...like Juliane Moore and Mark Rafulo. If reviews for this movie are bad, like cib3k wrote...well might be a rental then.

The book is one of my favorites of all time. It has incredible good pace and suspense. I remember thinking wile I was reading it that it would be imposible to make the book into a movie.
But then again I thought the same thing about the Perfume, and it turned out to be a quite interesting movie.

Oh, and not surprinsingly, it sucks. It already premiered at Cannes.

There are 3 negative reviews out of 4 on RottenTomatoes
 rottentomatoes.com/m/1188215-blindness/
and another one here:
 entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/cannes/article3932531.ece

On imdb it currently has a 6.5 rating, which spells average/mediocre.

I also thought of The Day of the Triffids when reading this. So I guess it's exactly like that, only without the triffids? Aren't there any new ideas out there?
