Wow this was one hell of wasted time. Good thing i have not thown my money - and lunch - watching it in the movie theatre(watched it while flying plane). It always puzzles me why Hollywood constantly tries to make mish-mash of totally different mythologies (even if they do not fit each other and contradicts on every step) to distort them to the point if nauseates you? Hellboy 2 ish the perfect example of mishmash, dumb, arrogant, but allmighty amerrican hero, crappy half-cooked motivations belnded out with reeking clishes, and psycho girl on PMS. I am sorry but i am outraged by such crap presented as a movie. I have no other word for it.
The only truly redeeming feature in the movie is the "bad guy" prince acting. Personally I have ended hating script writter in the middle of the movie biecause (what a shock - so predictable) i knew he will disgrace and kill the "bad guy prince" just biecause - you know - hellboy is SUPPOSED to win. He is supposed to win biecause despite beeing stupid, crude, crappy, arrogant prick he woud win biecause - you know - he is the main character... Power up for no apparent reason as usual.

Advice - you can really spend that time more productively. Really.

Several notices: Elves turn to wood and in general look as undead for no apparent reason. Diferent species fall into love at first sight for no apparent reason. Trolls are afraid of stupid canarries(where the fuck they got that from????). Hellboy can take a punch that sends him flying tens of meters away and it has no effect on him, but suddenly feels oh so sensitive when is smashed with a locker door... Script writer was on illegal heavily brain damaging drugs and movie producer was absent for all the filming time. Alternatively they just thought all who will watch the movie are idiots......

No, Doug Jones was not the voice of the faun in Pan's Labyrinth. He actually tried sounding out the lines, but then they got someone else to do the voice

I thought I still got my money's worth so I was happy overall. I don't understand why other movies that have almost unanimously gotten bad reviews are doing better this summer. The movie is not without flaws, but it is visually spectacular. It's a movie with some really stunning scenes that make it worth your money. The two most appealing characters are Hellboy and the elf prince villain, Nuada. Hellboy is very likable and he just grabs your heart and you want to root for a happily ever after for him. The elf prince is a tragic romantic looking figure of grace and agility. His sidekick Wink was also really cool in an endearing kind of way. I actually found myself feeling sad in the scene where Nuada finds out about Wink. The princess was really good too. I noticed in all of the film reviews, they always focus on the good guys, but the bad guys here really deserve more credit. I enjoyed how it's like a fairy tale gone bad. I actually thought the elf prince and princess really stole the show; whenever they were onscreen, they always held my attention. The movie would have really fallen flat without the visuality and surprising depth/sadness that they brought to the film - you really wanted to root for them. They did such a good job with the bad guys that except for Hellboy and Krauss, the good guys didn't really hold your attention.

I enjoyed the first movie because it was slightly dark(visually too), it had appropriate and well placed humour, and it was a good rep of the original character. The story and action were solid, and it didn't completely seem unrealistic. The only problem I had with it was the lack of monsters.

Now Hellboy 2, I was just a little let down as the movie took a kind of "Shrek-ish" turn. Aside from the action, I thought I was watching Shrek's red cousin's story. The child thing at the beginning was silly too. I can understand why Selma Blair seemed bored: she had screen time, but probably two or three action scenes. Abe was fine, but I was wondering why he didn't have to wear his re-breather anymore. Johann was great. No complaints there. Once again, Ron Perlman was great. I missed Myers, though. He really brought a human element that grounded the film(sent to Alaska in case nobody noticed). Like he said, visually stunning, the story was great, & every character did well. Overall, I loved the movie and definitely think it's worth watching. Slightly better than the first, but like most sequels, traded in an excellent almost dark atmosphere for more sillyness and family-freindlyness.

Hellboy 2 was fun; for sure that director has an amazing imagination, reminded me a lot of his work in Pan's Labyrinth
