In regards to Slushie Man’s complaints on the inperfectness (is that a word?) of Monster Squard. Yes, it has major flaws but thats what makes it so 80’s good. Its like saying Big Trouble in Little China has flaws, yes, but it still kicks ass! and thats what Jack Burton says!

In complete agreement with gutpunch… This movie was fucking awesome… But a remake wouldn’t be PC enough for the assholes out there that think kids shooting shit and swearing doesn’t happen. I probably will see it though if it is remade, but the original is a classic and doesn’t need it

There is no way a remake would be able to get away with what they did back then. Kids swearing like sailors, using guns, shooting shit and holocaust references. Doubt it.

If this gets made I will never see it. Ever.

Monster Squad is pretty much my favorite 80’s-movie. My friends and I still quote it regularly, and it’s soo good. Not really a horror-movie, but very exciting for a kid, and still funny for an adult. I would definetly watch the remake, if it seems true to the quality of the original. AWESOME!

In principle, I’m against the notion of remaking movies that were made in my lifetime. It makes me feel old.

Yes, that means the longer I live, the longer the moratorium becomes, but that’s just the way it has to be. Sorry, Hollywood.

Oh, and I’ve never seen “The Monster Squad,” but I know a lot of people who swear by it. Maybe we should check it out, John.

i think i read somewhere, im not sure where, that they had to redesign the monsters because universal owned the rights of frankenstein, dracula, etc, now if universal has the rights of the movie maybe theyre planning to do something special. just by keeping the main idea would be enough.

According to John’s rules:

1. Has it been 20 or more years since the original? Yes.
2. Is it a movie most people in the general public has yet to see? Yes.
3. Could it benefit from having a remake? Yes. The old effects were horrid, the acting just as bad, the script was a mess and left many things unresolved or open.

Look, I’m the hugest Monster Squad fan you’ll ever find, but I’m also not delusional. The original movie had some major problems, that could easily be fixed by a remake.

While I’m not fully onboard with this, I will be interested. As stated thus far, some of the FX are dated and could have been done better. But in that day and age, it was a script that Dekker and Cohen wanted to make, and they did the best job they could at the time.

I personally would want a new Creature From The Black Lagoon update apart from this, because the character isn’t as “generic” (in a good sense) as a werewolf, vampire or mummy.

It should be pointed out that some of the original talent is behind this; perhaps it is a property Cohen has some rights to, someone somewhere got a profit check from the recent DVD issue, and said ‘let’s dust it off’.

Bingo.
