Regarding Parker's post about the light cycle game in "Tron"...Yeah, you literally have to be the first driver to run circles around your opponent. All you have to do is play the classic game to know this.

Light Cycle matches don't last very long in the Tron Universe.

I remember "Tron" more for the video game adaptation than the actual movie. The video game was awesome for it's time, and it came out during the golden age of video games. The "Tron" video game is considered a classic.

"Tron" didn't have that great of a story, but the visuals were so groundbreaking and beautiful...They are inspiring to this day.

I bet you anything that Tron 2 will be so much better than the original.

as a guy who grew up watching Tron and Star Wars, i say the teaser looks very promising - but yes i am also concerned about Lisberger not being involved.

Wow. I love the feel of this thing so far...
Why is CG always complained about? If you're to young to remember Tron, then you're probably to young to truly realize what crap we had to swallow off the screen and tell ourselves it looked good. I'm not talking about ILM or even anything that even still remotely holds up, but there were so many run of the mill movies, heck most would avoid effects shots, and if you're not Spielberg, it isn't more "artistic" to NOT see the monster, it's just plain cheap. Sure, some movies could be cheap, and still deliver a whole world with only 5 or 6 Matte paintings, Colossus the Forbin Project did just that, with a smart script and it was brilliant. But, if Hulk looked too CG for your eyes, then you won't be able to get past that the computer in Colossus computes with magnetic tape. I look at CG, and appreciate how far it's come since Money for Nothing. A good chunk of Tron wasn't even CG, but old fashioned hand animation, but it threw the bar up there for everyone to try to top.
As far as Lisberger, his movie was SOOO inspirational, this many years on, I'd could be happy if he's not involved so long as TR2N's made by some rabid fans who were inspired by the original work.

FIrst you have to get in FRONT of the other guy.

This likely makes more sense if you have seen Tron.

Darren, I have to agree with Mark Hamill's performance in Slipstream (not a bad little film). I caught it years ago on the movie channel on a Sunday afternoon and I was embarrassed that when the credits rolled I saw Hamill's name on it. I honestly didn't even recognize him.

Yes, NBAkid, the notion that Steve Lisberger isn't involved (other than the arbitrary in name only "based on characters created by") is something of a sore thumb, seeing how for many years, including the DVD SE a few years ago strongly supported it (Killer App teaser, Tron 2 pre-visual storyboards and art)- but I wouldn't mind a return of Lisberger...on another movie. There were some high points for me on the slapstick comedy "Hot Pursuit" w/ John Cusack (and Ben Stiller), but there was also sci-fi pic "Slipstream" w/ Bill Paxton and Mark Hamill. Mark Hamill- who played a bad bass bounty hunter bad guy. (Don't laugh, int'l friends, he *was* pretty good in that low budget film from the late 80's; he had a Thor/mullet look going down...)

In any case, the big thing with TRON *was* the early CGI. As time goes by, yes, it does show age, but since the film was set in the 80's, and the 'puter universe "upgrades" at the end of the film, the CGI effects are aiding the story that much more. It thus would make perfect sense that twenty seven years later, that would has been rebooted (computer terms) an "x" amount of times...the landscape thus would change.

****
BTW, the original was actually too good for the effects at the time. When the studio thought the film should get a nomination for the groundbreaking effects in CG, it was shot down by the Oscar Academy who at the time, thought the filmmakers "cheated" using CGI FX.

The irony being that Tron paved the road for future CG films and animation companies, especially that of Pixar .

Given the notion that folks like Bruce are looking at a very small screen, it may indeed look unimpressive. Let's also not forget the film may still yet be tweaked.
