Jackie Chan in Spy Next Door

By Rodney - August 5, 2008 - 11:05 America/Montreal

Jackie Chan is always enjoyable in movies. And we all know he cannot act, but what he does do is always amusing and very entertaining. So it is no surprise that once again Jackie Chan is doing a family friendly action comedy flick. The Spy Next Door, directed by Brian Levant will make Jackie a babysitter.

MovieWeb says:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Bernstein and Jim Greer are writing the screenplay for The Spy Next Door, which centers on a man (Chan) who is called to baby-sit his neighbor’s children and winds up having to fight off secret agents after one of the kids inadvertently downloads a secret code.

Sounds a lot like the same formula that brought us Hulk Hogan’s Mr.Nanny & Suburban Commando as well as Vin Diesel’s The Pacifier. This hardline bodyguard/ninja/secret agent with skills to actually handle the situation made comedic when you add children has been done before.

Chan will likely take this role to the same place most of his “caught in a situation” type things go. Funny.

Wasn’t Jackie Chan originally slated to star in the Pacifier? I guess he thinks he made a mistake.

  2. toxel.com says:

“And we all know he cannot act” – We do?

I think Jackie is awesome, he can tell a story and show his emotions without speaking. Just because him movies are not nominated for Oscars, does not mean that he cannot act!

  3. Rodney says:

Jackie is the same off and on screen. He isn’t acting. He doesn’t get passed by for Oscars because he sucks. He doesnt suck at all. He just isn’t acting.

However everything else he does is amazing, so its ok.

  4. Supernetuser says:

Jackie Chan, only one of my favorite actors we haven’t seen in recent years doing other movies.

  5. Leon Lee says:

jackie chan won the Honk Kong Film Awards for best actor 1994 on his role in Crime Story, it wasn’t a “Jackie Chan” movie with outrageous stunts and laughs. the movie was very serious and character driven about true events. it’s sad because no one wants to see Jackie do drama or serious movies, we all just want him jumping off buildings and fight ten people at the same time, that’s fine because that is what he’s great at. but as for acting goes I think he CAN act, maybe not Oscar worthy, but I think he’s better in acting than alot of Hollywood stars today.

  6. Gordon Shumway says:

Geekily defending JC acting here, but check out Heart of the Dragon, Crime Story or New Police Story. Hes not bad. The synopsis for this though sounds like pure shit, of the Daddy Day Camp, Are We There Yet variety.

  7. HAZMAT says:

‘And we all know he cannot act”

lmao…yeah cmon…thats is true. i love the guy though..

  8. Wintle says:

I’m guessing you haven’t seen very many Jackie Chan movies.

  9. TericK says:

    Exactly Gordon!

Watch New Police Story and tell me he can’t act?

    Come on!

Altough Im sad about this movie, he’s done one already called Robb-e-Hood

  10. Rodney says:

Wintle, I checked the list, and of all his english speaking movies, I can honestly say there are 5 that I have not seen. So yeah. I have seen “many Jackie Chan Movies” and he is the same in all of them.

And we love him that way.

  11. Tyson says:

Ya i m totally agree with u tat Jackie Chan is always enjoyable in movies but i can’t accept ur word tat he can’t act..he is a good actor as well.

  12. Wintle says:

You’ve seen all but five of one small fraction of his films. Yes, you haven’t seen very many Jackie Chan movies.

  13. Rodney says:

I apologize that my inability to speak Chinese and lack of desire to READ a movie makes me such a poor judge of his acting skills.

He is the same guy in every movie and he is that same guy off screen. That is not acting to me.

I still like his movies and he is a likable guy. He just doesn’t act.

    Get over it.

  14. Wintle says:

Actually, I’d like to apologize. My comments were wrapped in a thick layer of dickishness that was in no way deserved. Sorry, Rodney.

What I was trying to get across is that Jackie Chan has appeared in a substantial number of films outside of his current Hollywood fare that many people in North America are largely unaware of, where the material actually gives him something to work with, there is no language barrier and where he actually has shown what people in the West (in their very narrow definition of the term) would consider acting.

I’m biased because I work in a field that involves acting almost entirely through movement, and so I tend to appreciate acting that is physical over that which is mostly verbal anyway.

  15. Darnell says:

To respond to Rodney saying Jackie isn’t acting. Now in his English films of course not but there are some really good acting movies Chan had put himself into deep character. He can act but he chooses not to in his English Films.

  16. JACKIE CHAN THE SPY NEXT DOOR.

Jackie Chan is a action comedy legend but I saw him in New Police Story which it was good but him doing the Spy Next door can be crap or funny but I would like to see Jackie Chan to do the movie version of the video game Virtua Fighter so he can play Lau.
This is one of my ideas if Chan would movies in the future so the Virtua Fighter movie will take place before Virtua fighter 5,also I would like to see Scott Adkins to play Brad Burns in the film and Jaycee Chan (Jackie Chan’s son)as Akira.
This can be one of Jackie Chans movie future projects.
    Thanks.

i just want to say hi to jackie chan, im an avid fan since grade school, i have seen his drunken master and i really adore him. for me, hes a great actor, you dont need to cry or make somebody cry just to say that you are acting or a good one. for me, it is very to make people cry, but to make them laugh, it takes a ton of talent. once you touched the heart of these people who watched you, then you are a GREAT ACTOR!

    love you Jackie.
