Michael Keaton joins Toy Story 3

By Rodney - August 25, 2008 - 06:02 America/Montreal

Toy Story 3 is off to a running start. And we not only get the breif synopsis but more importantly another big name has been added to the cast. Looks like Michael Keaton will be giving a voice to Barbie’s beau Ken.

IESB.net says:

Not much is known about Toy Story 3 with the exception of a short synopsis given to the Wall Street Journal earlier this year: “Woody the cowboy and his toy-box friends are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, leaves for college.”It has also been revealed that Barbie and Ken would also be featured in the movie. Benson also revealed to the IESB that her Barbie will be cuddling up to none other than Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, as Ken in the new film.

I do like Michael Keaton. I think he is one of the most under used actors in Hollywood. He has a broad appeal, and can play the goodguy just as easily as the badguy. His voice talents will be a perfect fit for the type of caricature types found in Toy Story.

I really like that they are advancing the storyline to have Andy all grown up. The toys will be discarded and handed down as he outgrows them. This was touched on in ToyStory 2 with Jessie the Cowgirl.

This also means that these classic toys will now start facing NEW toys that they don’t understand. I look forward to an excited speaking Anime toys and a LeapPad looking down on the Speak N Spell. Perhaps a theme of accepting the joy in the simplicity of toys.

An action figure is just an action figure. It takes something special to be a toy.

Micheal Keaton? Man, when was the last time anybody remembers him in anything?
Not that it’s a bad thing but, it seems about ten years since he;s been in anything anybody remembers.

  2. Rodney says:

Keaton was the voice of Chick Hicks in Cars, the lead in White Noise and the father in Disney’s Herbie Reloaded.

That’s just off the top of my head. I am sure he has done more.

  3. Dragonslayer says:

He could do it. All he needs to be is a crazy cowboy on weed.

  4. Phil Gee says:

I think this will be great because, as Rodney says, Keaton can play both sides of the coin. To be fair, he’s probably going to have a very small part in the movie but it’s cool anyhow.

  5. Rodney says:

I have hope that Ken will be a bigger part in the movie just because they have a decent name behind him.

But we will have to see more about the plot before we can tell.
