Well, if they at least remake it in 3-D, I'll go see it but if not, forget it. I mean, what can they really do with it that they haven't already done. And only if they make it scarier than the original.

The well's not dry, they're just not bothering to look down it anymore. They have a closed circle of weak writers, and are afraid to step outside of it. The answer to their problem lies in the talent pool OUTSIDE of Hollywood.

i just don't know about this i mean
sure its been what 27yrs. enough time
to start over and make a updated
version of this film

like many others that have been done before but the curiious side of me would love to see what hollywood would do to this classic film

they could of course screw this up like many
others or it could actually come off being
a good redo most people these days would
agree to the first

than again this story could just be rummor
and never see the light of day i
think after 27yrs.snice pt1 and ruffly 20yrs
since pt3 enough time would have passed to
do a pt4

unfortuatly 4 characters would need recasting since the actors who played these parts have all
passed away yrs. ago the preacher parts 2,3 the indian med. man pt2 and the 2 daughters carol
ann and the other girl who played her older sister

yes you read it right bring back the indian for part4 oviously the daughters and indian
would be older by now as well as the other
members of the family i think it would be
interesting to see the kids grown up
fighting the supernautral and a grown up
carol ann taking on the preacher

i like the original for the effects
that were used the cast i thought
was good to and the kids chorus singing
at the end during the closing credits
spooooky

somethings i didn't like were wispering
dialog not understanding what was being said unless u turn up the volume during those
certain parts in the movie,se dvd not having
more extras part that should've got cut
the son leaving in the taxi with the dog
they both at one point look back before getting
in the cab with the parents looking on just
didn't look right to me sorry

i also see the movie differently now
after reading how several key cast
members died in real life i was

also dissapointed in the way part 3
was done it was a poorly written script
never should have been made also i read that
a double of the actress who played carol ann
was used during filming due to her health at
the time

if this movie gets the redo treatment i think
it should been done with little cgi fx's as
possible and use fx's like in the original
or fx's like john carpenter's the thing

i think it would give it a more realistic
feel for the fans of this movie i think
maybe cameos by the original cast too

I gotta agree with what seems to be the general trend here -- if a movie can stand an upgrade (Lord of the Rings, comes to mind) due to the advent of technology that simply wasn't available when the movie was originally done, then fine. However, Poltergeist isn't one of those. The story holds up (what parent doesn't fall apart with the thought that their child is gone by someone you can't track), the effects hold up (what, are they going to make the closet suck in toys faster?), it's still a movie to frighten (my 10 year old won't go near it) and a remake is unnecessary. They may as well (outside of the genre) remake Sound of Music or Mary Poppins for crying out loud. When it ain't broke people, don't fix it.

I'd have to agree with Geoff on this one...

Poltergeist is one of my favorite films; I saw it with one of my best friends at the time, on the last day of 7th grade. Needless to say, it scared me SO badly that, even at the age of 13, I had to sleep on the floor in my parents' room that night. It's a timeless classic that can't be improved upon, and I was such a fan of the series that I even have poor Heather O'Rourke's autograph (ironically, I sent her a fan letter 3 days before she passed away, and about 2 weeks later, I received the autographed photo in the mail from the studio). That being said...

It certainly would be interesting to see what a new, current take on the story would be like. Yes, CG effects just don't have the "wow" factor that FX back in the day had (when we all wondered "How did they DO that?" Now, we know it's all just pulled out of a computer. Yawn.), but it would be neat to see the horror factor pumped up with effects that just couldn't be done at the time. And it would be cool to see new takes on the tree attack, the clown doll, Carol Anne's abduction, the Freeling's final escape, etc. And just imagine...this time around, Carol Anne would be talking to ghosts on a huge, flat panel HD television set....

Plus...

Would you believe that the skeletons in the pool at the end were actually real? And JoBeth Williams didn't know until after the take. You think they'd do something like that today? hahaha probably not. If they did, 3 days later someone would probably pretend to complain of some kind of illness and try to sue the Film Studio for money because of it. Anything to make a buck these days I swear. And remaking of old Hollywood classics such as this is a sure sign. Needless to say lack of new, original ideas. Instead, let's not come up with something new and creative on our own, but remake someone else's great idea into our own which (will probably most likely) suck. And, even if it was partially good, it's still not fair to redo something so good that was done good already. (That doesn't sound right). Whatever.

Some movies should never EVER be remade. Not even attempted. Poltergeist is one. Needless to say of the fact that all I think about when I watch it is how unfair it was for two of the actors to have died. It just seems almost disrespectful in making a remake because of that. It's been what, 26 years since it came out? For it's time, it was quite the horror flick spite it's PG rating at the time. Additionally, no movie uses special effects like they did then. Who cares if you can see a wire or two. They re-do something like that today and it's all going to be CG which in my opinion, is far more obvious and boring and disatisfying than a wire or two. If the movie's good, you don't pay attention to looking for wires. You're watching the film. If it's CG, it doesn't matter if it's good or not, it's just obvious and lame.

I heard they were makin' a Poltergeist remake and I said no, no, no.
