Prince Of Persia Pushed Back A Year
Video game movies suck. Tis a universal law… like the sun rising, the changing of the seasons and women rejecting my advances (since when did “Hey baby. What will $20 get me?” stop being an effective pick up line?). But if one were to put a proverbial gun to my head and ask me what video game property had the best chance of delivering enough quantity and quality narrative to make a decent flick… I’d probably have to say Prince of Persia.
Originally the film was slated to come out July 19th 2009 (next summer), but for one reason or another the powers that be have deemed it wiser to push the release of the film back nearly a full year to May 28th 2010. It does get the movie away from the next Transformers movie, but it puts it smack dab in the middle of Shrek 4 just before it, and Thor just after it. I’m sure we’ll see some more date shuffling between now and then.
The synopsis of Prince of Persia looks like this:
Prince of Persia is an action adventure video game which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) must join forces with Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time. Alfed Molina and Ben Kingsley co-star. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire helmer Mike Newell is directing under producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Persia began filming at the beginning of July in Morocco.
Lots of potential here for a decent summer flick… but being a video game adaptation I’d have to put my money on it sucking like a $5 whore… that’s not me, that’s just the law of the universe. But it one story MIGHT break that curse, it could be this one. We’ll have to wait and see… a year longer than we thought.

I think this one could be the video game movie that makes people look at them as something other than a joke. I hope it turns out good, because I’m sick and tired of sequels and there is a lot of potential in video games as movies, if done correctly.
Resident Evil was decent, but nothing to make people look at games as movies any differently. Warcraft (if it comes out) and this movie could really get rid of the stigma.
Just don’t let Uwe Boll within 1,000 miles of the movie and it should be decent. Same can be said for Paul W.S. Anderson, keep him really far away too.
Harry Gregson-Williams is set to score this movie I believe. I’m not that interested in seeing this film, but that might be due to the fact that I hardly know anything about the game.
I just hope Gregson-Williams will be able to deliver a solid score like he did for Kingdom of Heaven. I also hope that he stays away from the Media Ventures typical sound which I’ve grown to hate over the past few years.
A friend of mine is in this. Playing one of the villains.
I for one am completely appalled at what the director of this flick is doing to destroy the story of this “So-Called” Break through in Video Game movies.
Ok, I have pretty much commented on everyone of your posts that have to do with Prince of Persia. So I guess I’ll just get to the point of my anger.
Sure the game has a love story, and they do eventually have to work together. But It first starts out with him trying to redeem himself for what he’s done to his people. The Director is only focusing on the love story (And that alone may as well be its downfall) Not to mention the continuous story holes I see.
Ok, well, there is an angry ruler but is was the prince who unleashes the Sands of Time on his land, no the “Angry Ruler!”
all I have say after that is…JKGUIFDGSAUIDSAGFYSAG!!!! GOD [Expletive Deleted]!!!!!!! Not another one of my favorite things being ruined by a retarded filmmaker who thinks love stories matter, BAH LIES!!!!!
Gemma Arterton is causasian and from Kent… the only exotic thing about her is her breast implants conducted by a certain Dr. Ratnarajah.
