Wolverine “Kid Friendly” Rumour

By Rodney - August 21, 2008 - 07:05 America/Montreal

The X-Men Origins: Wolverine set seems to have spawned a dirty rumour about the art direction of the film. Leaked through the set and onto the net is a possibility that someone on the inside is trying to “lighten” the set peices so that Wolverine is not so dark and gritty. The words “kid friendly” are being thrown around and I don’t care much for that.

MoviesOnline offers:

The rumor is that Gavin Hood was overseeing the building of a set that had a “dark, dinghy and somber side” to them. Then when the director left the set to go shoot something or to begin prepping things, Fox CEO Tim Rothman had the set completely repainted from top to bottom.

Wolverine NEEDS to have a grittier edge. The beauty of the character is that he is a tortured soul lost within his own mystery about his past. But he is a softy too. When time comes we know that Wolverine is the hero even though he just shanked a league of ninjas.

I do hope that this is just a rumour. If they candy coat this film it will take away that darker side that Wolverine struggles with.

I just hope that they dont bring about a sidekick that calls him “Wolvie-guy”. A brighter set might not kill the whole movie, so maybe its just one piece instead of an overall “goal” to be more kid friendly.

Wasn’t there already a trailer released for Wolverine. It didn’t come off as kid friendly.

  2. NYCKING87 says:

That’s what I was thinking. There wasn’t any kid friendly crap in the trailer.

Anyway, this better just stay a rumor. A kid friendly Wolverine wouldn’t work. Period. His life was built around the dark and gritty side of things.

  3. Johnson says:

This needs to be dark all the way i thought that was the idea of the stand alone Wolvie film, to get back to his raging animal ways that we didn’t really get to see in the X trilogy.

seems it strange that they would do so with all the success of showing the darker and real side of comic book heroes. hard to imagine they would want to make a fantastic four-ish type piece of garbage again.

  5. goodbar1979 says:

its definitely odd that Fox wants to do this.

Considering the success of “The Dark Knight” you’d think the studios would realize that “dark & gritty” can still make a ton of $$$$$

  6. leeloo says:

lol. so fox wants it to be not so dark so they paint the stage sets a lighter color.

wheres doctor doom when you really need him.

  7. Kryptonite says:

The comic book incarnation of Wolverine is actually far ahead of what they are doing in the movies. The current movie Wolverine is the same as what they were doing in the comics 10-12 years ago.

In the comics, Wolverine now fully remembers his past. ALL of it. This hasn’t made him warm and fuzzy, however. He now remembers all of the horrible things he’s done in his past. He’s still dark, gritty and tortured, but for far different reasons. It’s made the character even deeper than before. But it’s STILL NOT KID-FRIENDLY!!! If they take this direction in the movie, then count me out.

  8. John Whiteaker says:

Should they make it in the same tone as the X-Men films? Wouldn’t they be looking for that same audience?

  9. T-Vo says:

blah, blah, blah…another rumor on this site just like the Punisher.
None of the X-Men movies were geared towards “Kiddies”, so I don’t see why a Wolvie movie would either. Must be a slow rumor, er, News Day.

  10. DJ says:

Definitely am hoping that this is a rumor, and I’m thinking it probably is. If it’s true, I feel bad for the director. Nothing like being told you have control over a project then having your project changed behind your back. Not cool.

  11. bjon86 says:

Okay. I’m gonna SQUASH this rumor right here and now. I know somebody who has seen some stuff on this movie and they say it is so damn gritty. A LOT more so than the X-MEN movies before. Nothing to fear. I’m not worried.

  12. spiderfreak182 says:

    i call bull-sh

  13. Kristina says:

    Kid-friendly?

Next, they’re gonna tell me that Wolverine’s claws are plastic.

  14. vargas says:

Why don’t they just put a tutu on him and call it Wolverine: Queen of the Desert 2!

See this is where studio heads mess up. Everyone has a job to do and they should stick to it. Studio heads don’t know how to make movies. It would be nice if they left that to those who do. Once they’ve decided to fund a film project they should trust that the director they hired will do the job the way it SHOULD be done! There’s nothing worse than a suit who thinks he’s a director.

  15. Junior says:

Does anybody know for a fact if Omega Red is in this film?

  16. Rodney says:

@BJON86, forgive me if I don’t automatically assume that because you “know someone who saw something” that the rumour is dead, but if you read the story the set looked “damned gritty” before it got repainted. Maybe your “friend” saw that piece?

I do hope its just rumour.

  17. Dragonslayer says:

Don’t you fucking dare, Fox! I’ll hate you more than I already hate you for suing WB for Watchmen, you filthy fucking monkeyfuckers!

Man, me and Doug have a lot in common.

  18. George Bourke says:

Hopefully this is bullshit. Still if the rumors of the movie sucking are true it won’t matter if Wolverine’s nemesis is a wiggle.

This is starting to sound like another Craptastic 4, which is a shame for Jackman as he’s a decent actor.

  19. Sherrie says:

    I’m morally opposed to de-clawing.

  20. Aaron says:

This is so disappointing. Almost as disappointing as finding out the truth that Liev Schreiber was NOT playing Wolverine (yes I was duped). Its inconsequential now, but if you have ever read the comics and ever seen a picture of Liev Schreiber’s face up close, then you know what I’m talking about. This was precisely the correction that I conceived from the get-go when I found out they were using Hugh Jackman. I appreciate the work he put in but Liev would have been 10 times better. Now Fox has to fuck up everything.

    Just look at this mug:

    http://bp2.blogger.com/_Hv5AwVxaLEE/RsLlwwgD1LI/AAAAAAAAArg/TrO6UFk6tzI/s400/LIEV_SCHREIBER.jpg

Now imagine him with lots of hair, ripped, and with claws.

  21. Rodney says:

Why would you want a 6foot 3 man to play Wolverine?? Liev as Wolverine would have been silly.

He clearly makes a great choice for Sabretooth (at least this version that has to act anyways)

Jackman is more the “face” of Logan than Liev could be. He even looks like the comic drawings.

Even Liev with more hair doesnt look anything like wolverine.
