Ok, no matter what, I am coming to tonight’s live show just to hear John’s thoughts on this huge pile of poo I just saw.
Y’know the bad guy in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade who drinks the false grail. That was me while watching this.
I can’t even BEGIN to tell you how disappointed I am in this. The source material, the dragon ball show was an enormous hit, absolutly amazing. To attach the dragon ball name to this incredibly awful trailer/movie is a disgrace to any and all things dragon ball. I want to go to the studio and punch every person directly in the throat that had anything to do with this.

Can you say Street Fighter?
I’ve been a long time DB fan. This movie should never have been made. It looks soooo awfull. It’s something a 13yr old would say “WOW COOL this movie is gonna rock”. Maybe their trying to get the younger generation to like this franchise (since its a 20yr old fanchise).

I’ve never liked Dragonball… never gave a second thought about it. But I have to say, the fight coreagraphy is impressive and looks solid. I would go see this. I am a huge fan of James Marsters (SPIKE of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame) and I think he looks cool as Piccolo. Yep, I get it… he’s not green enough. He’s more of a mute grey. But the Make up is still cool. I’m kinda intrigued. Not super pumped… but I’ll def. shell out the duckets to see it.
I liked Speed Racer but there is no way this can be good.

I’m with Forest. I could never get into any of the Dragonball shows except the original Dragon Balls, and while this doesn’t look like any sort of high art, it does seem like it’ll be next year’s guilty pleasure of mine.
Looks like “Forbidden Kingdom” so far. But with explosions, cleavage, and a lot of unnecessary title cards. There’s obviously a lot of unfinished shots and missing CGI in this teaser. I can’t imagine Goku would be flipping around in the middle of an empty room for no reason. Still, it looks pretty much how I’d expect a Dragonball movie to look. All the flying and planet-destroying battles aren’t supposed to happen until the sequels anyway. I’ll keeping waiting for the real trailer.

ive been a fan of the show for a while, not so much anymore, but i liked the trailer. i mean, i dont think the movie is gonna win any awards or break ticket sale records but hopefully it can be descent

ya its just a teaser since its too short and the trailer is supposed to premiere at the max payne premiere. They were showing this trailer at a convention or something.

That was a shorter promo playing at a convention. This is the official leaked teaser that will be playing with Max Payne. It’ll be a few more months before we get a full trailer.
I still think it looks somewhat promising. I always favor guilty pleasures over the more popular “A-list” movies. Babes, Bombs, and Kung Fu – three ingredients any movie needs to make me happy. Screw faithful adaptation. As long as the movie kicks ass in the end, they could have Goku sing karaoke for all I care.
Have the people who made this even seen one Dragonball or DBZ episode?
probably not, because this looked..ugh…just awful, we waited around for that long knowing it would be bad, but when the slightest glimmer of hope comes…it failed.

I cannot believe this. As a 15 yr old (young demographic), I am hugely disappointed. Are they serious with that Piccolo? BARELY even looks like him. And I’m not digging the “modern yet at the same time ancient” look they’re going for. It work in the series, but not here. I really wanted to see this. But now, I don’t even think I’ll buy it if it was in the clearance bin, which probably won’t be long.

you might be different, since you’re on the movie blog and you’ve listened to all the ranting on this site about how this movie was going to be bad. Other people who aren’t on this site will still be interested. This movie trailer doesn’t have all the special effects done, and until you see that you can’t judge it. It still could turn out looking great.

Being that I have no emotional ties to the DB universe I was expecting this trailer to suck Palin Balls. But hey, I didn’t seem that retarded. I love martial arts films and if they can get some Hong Kong style action without the American “Shaky Cam”, I’ll be happy to sneak into it after watching something else. Chow Yun Fat Kicking ass in a Hawaiian shirt! FTW!

I’ve never seen any episode of Dragonball though and i don’t know if this is based off that or Dragonball Z. so i’m pretty ok with this and will definetely be looking foward to seeing a real trailor with special effects and all.

As a current DB geek, I can address your complaints.
1. Why are the dragonballs so small?
So that the props are easier to manage.
2. Why is Piccalo human?
The pale white skin is the result of his long imprisonment. He eventually becomes green again.
3. Who the hell cares about Mai, Bulma, and Roshi?
Bulma and Roshi are the two most important characters to the original story next to Goku. They have to be in there. And Mai’s just some additional T&A that they managed to scrap from the first season of Dragonball. They needed an extra bad guy.
4. Where the fuck is Krillin?!?
If they introduced all the characters now, there’d be no one left to bring in for the sequel. He’ll probably have a cameo role. James Wong was upset that the screenwriter didn’t include him either.

James Marsters confirmed it, along with a couple of people who claim to have been on the set. He only starts out white because of his old age (an idea the make-up artist had.)
Actually – you can see it in the trailer. Near the end, he’s spinning around in front of an explosion and the back of his head is visibly green for a split-second.
No antennae, though. Sorry.

100 Million Budget than this. lord of the Rings 280 Million Budget all 3 Episodes!!! James Wong and Stephan Chow make a disaster. Dragonball has so much to create a wonderfull epic with more than 3 episodes and they did another Streetfighter, Mortal Combat and DOA-like Movie Sorry Hollywood is sometimes stupid!

The changes they’ve made are caused by the Fox chairmen arguing with the screenwriters, and how they’re trying to pack seven seasons worth of origin story into one movie. Otherwise, it comes down to demographics. A teen Goku can sell more tickets than a twelve year-old.
No hating on the director, though – he and Chow did a lot of fighting with the chairmen just to get a lot of classic Dragonball stuff put back in the movie.
What bugs me most about the trailer is Fox’s poor handling of the presentation. The general consensus is that this is reminding people of “Mortal Kombat,” yet both Wong and Chow are experienced in creating modern action movies with their own styles. So why does this look more like a 90’s video game movie than one of their own?
I’m guessing it’s the Fox chairmen again. All summer, they’ve been editing their movie trailers and selling fake premises for movies they’re afraid to take risks on (Meet Dave, X-Files, Babylon AD, Max Payne, etc.) It looks like they’re doing it again. According to the cast and crew, the movie is supposedly a lot more faithful than the ads make it out to be, but Fox wants to focus on the minor changes (like showing a split-second shot of a Bumblebee car to cash in on the Transformers hype.) They’re not even showing the good shots like the leaked one I saw of Goku’s training where he’s running through the desert carrying a massive boulder over his head (or a turtle shell – I couldn’t tell.)
If they have a turd, they should at least polish it instead of smearing it around. But that’s Fox for you.
