Forest Whitaker Lands Lead In What a Wonderful World

By Doug - October 8, 2008 - 11:11 America/Montreal

ArmstrongWe have another musical biopic on deck, this time revealing the life and times of legendary songster Louis Armstrong (as told by Forest Whitaker). We get the scoop thanks to our friends at comingsoon:

Forest Whitaker will direct and star in Louis Armstrong biopic What a Wonderful World for Paris-based Legende, the company behind La Vie en rose.

The film will kick-off during the musician’s impoverished early years in New Orleans and primarily chronicle his career as a trumpet virtuoso and improvisational singer. What a Wonderful World will begin shooting in the summer in Louisiana.

I know little about Louis Armstrong, but I consider What A Wonderful World to be one of the pretties songs of hope ever penned. I am interested in learning the story of the man behind the tune and am glad that a thespian of supreme ability will be playing the part. Forest Whitaker has very capable hands and I look forward to seeing him tell the tale of Armstrong.

Ironically theres no trumpet in What a Wonderful World, and thats what he did best. I dont know much about his early life but my Dad is a fan of his jazz, theres a story to tell here that I would like to learn.

Thank God you wrote this post. We all know how John thinks muscians have boring lives!! Forest must not be too ugly for this role.

I love forest, and I love that song. I look forward to this.

Interesting connection here. Forest Whitaker was in Good Morning VietNam with Robin Williams in 1987.

A movie in which Louis Armstrong’s moving and iconic song “What a Wonderful World” was in the soundtrack.

But he’s ugly, black, and unbankable!

FW is perfect for this role. Awesome!

Louiss’ story is actually a preety good one, he had about three wives, and some major issues with the mafia at that time. Louis’s distinct voice will be a tough one though
