Why should it seem weird that porn hasn’t been ‘covered’ in the mainstream?

In North America live (especially in the US), in a contradictory world. America was ‘founded’ by Puritans, it now has an adult industry so huge as to be almost impossible to get even ballpark figures on…but it would surprise most people just how large the revenues are. So there’s this back-and-forth about it. The moralists decry it…while everyone else craves it. America has been and continues to a ‘right-leaning’ country…yet there’s this elephant in the room. (Getting a hummer.)

Porn exists for masturbation. (I’m reducing things greatly here.) That connotation alone makes it a less-than-savoury topic of discussion…despite the fact that almost anyone you come in contact with on a daily basis has had some contact of their own with porn at some point.

Besides, it’s like sports: a great sports film isn’t strictly about the sport. It’s a great story set against the backdrop of the sport. How can you deal with porn in this way? If it has porn elements…it’s porn. And therefore, not a mainstream film. (Never mind the fact that most porn is fatuous and spectacle-filled.)

I have my own site where I publish things-erotical. I’ve garnered almost 300,000 hits in one year, with no advertising, so I know of the appeal of porn. But that doesn’t make it fodder for the masses. At all.

The movie sounds interesting and I’m as surprised as you as to the lack of porn available in the mainstream, especially considering how much it generates. Meanwhile, mainstream tries HARD to seduce us with breasts and ass (and more recently men hanging themselves out there – SHUDDER!) but it always seemed odd to me that PORN wasn’t more of a topic, especially with the influence it has on movies mainstream puts out…

BTW, the movie with Jeff Bridges is actually called The Amateurs. It’s a really smart little film.

Yes Yamo. We need more Michael Cera in movies. His versatility is unquestionable. We need Michael Cera to take on the roles of other movies too. Michael Cera can be the awkward student/wizard in the next Harry Potter, or an awkward mutant in a new X-men movie, or an awkward pirate-in-training as part of a new romance storyline in the new PotC movie. See how well he fits with each of these examples. Everybody needs to start asking for more Michael Cera. A vote for Michael Cera is a vote for Jesus.

…I actually once ran into her on the street in Melbourne. They had the game expo right next door to the adult film expo…can totally imagine all the nerds having a ‘blast’ that week.

But Luke Wilson?? I can see it…but I’ve never been a fan of his roles. Best thing I’ve seen him in was Old School and The Royal Tenenbaums. After having seen him pull out his smirk and flash it on everything that moves in the comedies, I couldn’t take him seriously in Vacancy…
…so will this be a comedy or something that might come close to Boogie Nights?
