Michael Crichton dies at 66
It looks like Michael Crighton has passed away.
Michael Crichton, who helped create the TV show “ER” and wrote the best-sellers “Jurassic Park,” “The Andromeda Strain,” “Sphere” and “Rising Sun,” died in Los Angeles on Tuesday, his public relations firm said in a news release. He “died unexpectedly,” the release said, “after a courageous and private battle against cancer.”
He was 66.
I was always a big fan of his literary works, and was pleasantly surprised when they butchered the hell out of Jurassic Park when translating it to screen and I still liked it anyways.
I wish I could say the same for Timeline. I loved the novel, and the movie? Not so much.
Anyways, regenerated dinos aside, Dr Crighton had a hell of a career. A blessed life stained by the undeserving curse of Cancer.
You will be missed Michael.

The world just lost an author that has time and time again, provided a great place for my imagination to escape to.
R.I.P.
OH SHIT
A sad day.
This is terrible news. Crighton has for many years been my favourite author since I first read Jurassic Park in grade 7. No other author has been able to come close to him as far as I’m concerned.
I always greatly anticipate his next novel and usually read it more than once.
He will be missed.
Wow…no way…
I read Jurassic Park in 3rd grade, and it changed my life and reading habits forever. One of my favorite authors of all time. Goodbye, Michael :(
NO! man i read all of his books between 7th grade and high school. He was a truly amazing writer. His knowledge of the medical field allowed him to write one of the most amazing books called andromeda strain.
jurrasic park was a amazing book as well….the movies where cool but like the TOPIC TO THE RIGHT>>> “WHY PEOPLE PREFER THE BOOK TO THE MOVIE” im guilty its true the book was better haha.
anyways this is sad mike rip.
I’m not big on reading, but I’ve never passed up a new Michael Crichton novel on the stands. He will be missed.
They REALLY butchered The Lost World. You guys should read that book. It’s far superior to the shitty film with some girl doing gym-fu on a raptor.
Quick somebody butcher Westworld!
Just kidding…
Godspeed Mr Crichton. Hollywood has truly never been able to adequately fulfill your visions. In the tradition of Jules Verne, you’ve predicted the future on more than one occasion.
AH MAN LOST WORD WAS A FANTASTIC BOOK….the color changing dinosaur was a w e s o m e!
He also wrote and directed Westworld one of my all time favorite films.
Chuck
There is also one more thing I would like to add:
Michael Crichton was also a fairly decent director (Runaway is a guilty pleasure; Westworld and The Grain Train Robbery also come to mind)…and how he saved The 13th Warrior.
Note: I still didn’t care for Twister, one of the few scripts he wrote that wasn’t based on one of his books; and the idea for Jurassic Park 4 (Dinos w/ guns) is STILL lame…and he didn’t have a thing to do with it.
R.I.P.
Truly a shame. A wonderful author who passed away far to early
I agree with you about Timeline… they butchered it.
Crichton was one of the best reads… always looked forward to reading his new novels. Such a shame.
Umm, kudos aside, you guys seem to have forgotten that Crichton became a big Bush adherent and Global Warming denier .
He may have been a science-fiction writer, but in his last days, he was disappointingly anti-science.
@Victor…. So he had some crackpot ideas that lined up with the President that you and your peers voted in twice?
And this makes him less of an accomplished fiction author??
As a Geology teacher, I was always impressed with Chriton’s grasp of the scientific, and amazed by his ability to make the complex understandable.
He was also, in my humble opinion, the wordls single greatest authority on the subjects of “global warming” and “climate change.”
The loss of his intellect is a great blow to our popular culture.
@Wing Chun, his stands on Global Warming and climate change have repeatedly been destroyed by the scientific community. I do hope that your statement is in deep sarcasm or else I fear for your students.
Sadly he was lost within the science of his fiction, but he was a masterful writer, and an entertaining read.
