The Movie Blog Endorses Barack Obama – But Who Cares? Get Out And Vote!

By John - November 3, 2008 - 23:38 America/Montreal

Obama-2.jpg

Hey there guys. We love to talk movies. Movies are a great escape, but there are seriously more important things in the world. Tuesday is a defining moment in history. The results of this US election will have a huge impact on the direction the country, and the world will take over the next 4 years.

Both Doug Nagy and myself fully endorse Barack Obama. However, the important thing is that no matter who you support, Obama or McCain, you get yourself out to vote! The 2000 election in Florida taught us that EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS!!!!! Don’t leave your candidate hanging. If you believe McCain is the right person for the job, then get off your lazy ass and get out to vote for him! If you think Obama is the best man for the job, then get off the damn internet porn sites for 30 minutes and get out to vote for him. Either way… VOTE TODAY!!!!!

    Barak = Barack
    :)

  2. Nick Venture says:

I plan on waking up early tomorrow to vote for Obama. It will be my first election that I can vote in and I’m glad that this election is the first for me.
I’ve poured a lot of time and energy into researching the many candidates from the primaries to now and I finally made my decision to support Barack sometime in May.

But yes, it is true, you must get out and vote.

  3. EricD says:

The prospect of an Obama presidency makes it easier to take that I will be dead in the next 3 or 4 years.

  4. astrocreep says:

yet another reason I love TMB

  5. leeloo says:

i think this is gonna be huge.

  6. Patience says:

    Aren’t you guys Canadian?

  7. John says:

    Hey Patience,

Yes, that’s why we can’t VOTE. But as a citizen of the world we have a vested interest in the election, because as America goes, the rest of the world goes. America has the power to make the world a better, or worse place and so we are VERY invested in how this election turns out.

    Get out and vote!

  8. emilyk says:

“But as a citizen of the world we have a vested interest in the election, because as America goes, the rest of the world goes. America has the power to make the world a better, or worse place and so we are VERY invested in how this election turns out.”

So true. I realize this more so now since I moved to Japan. (And they LOVE Obama here, btw).

I already voted through my absentee ballot. I hope Obama wins. If McCain wins, I may just stay in Japan a few more years than I planned to.

  9. The Chriton Leperchaun says:

love this site. but… try and steer clear of politcs please. ive lost respect for to many people this year because they go about saying stuff that should remain, well, unsaid…

  10. NineShooter says:

    You’re right Leprechaun,

People should never voice their opinion on things that directly effect them.

Seriously, that’s one of the stupidest things I’ve ever read.

We should stay quiet about the most important thing in the world that EVERYONE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT? Yeah, that’s really intelligent.

  11. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

well my whole family voted for obama…like 3 days ago

and were not democrats or republicans were just independent…lmao sorry

i love it how palin completely took a dump on the chest of republicans..i love it how she ruined them thats so histerical. mcain has been running for president what- this is his 2nd time? id guess he wouldnt fuck it up but then he got her and i was SO SHOCKED when he did, i thought hed pick romney.

hes telling people obama has no experience then he goes out and gets a VP that is 2 years older then obama and that hes only seen ONCE. not to mention the way she looks at the bibble is histerically off. she believes forbadom everything the bibble says, im an evangelic christian and we study the bible, and we KNOW shes retarded. ugh i cant stand her…

mcain has done nothing but attack obama because thats all he can do, obama is just talking about what he has planned.

did anyone else here see the “OBAMA…TOO RISKY” commercials? HAHA! that was insanely funny

although…i would have liked it if he picked clinton as a VP…i like her idc what anyone else says…if obama picked hilary…he would have had this thing on LOCK already, but bidden supposedly shits money so. i signed up for the marine corps and im joining in june. please dont fucking put another republican in office.

  12. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

by the way you guys DO KNOW that in canada the voting is done in such a way that they know who wins within an hour?

like they dont wait untill 4 am like we do, and they do it with a pencil and a scantron

why cant we do that? we use 4 papers and they use one, they just bubble it in and we do so much shit its riddiculous

and i think its not on a fucking tuesday they do it like on saturdays

    why not us!?

  13. sammy says:

your canadian. why do you give a damn.

  14. The Jim Walker says:

ERICD – LOL (At your comment, not your impending doom…)

    To everyhing else… ugh.

  15. 1) Get out and vote.

    2) McCain and Obama isn’t the only two on the ballot. If anyone votes for Nader/Green Party, that’s respectful too. You are not “throwing your vote away”. All votes count.

    3) Don’t think for one minute that it’s over. It’s only over after you cast your vote.

    4) Vote on the issues, your conscious, and who you feel is the right person for the job- not just on a Presidential level, but your local leaders as well.

  16. Copernicus says:

Yay, go Barack! Im living in Finland but this time i have followed the race for US president with great interest. I still remember reading news about last time results and thinking that “what have you americans done”. Good luck to everyone.

    Heres a funny pic

  17. Kevin says:

I am apologizing right now to everyone…for I live in Florida. I just hope my state doesn’t screw up this election, I voted for Obama, and if Florida messes up his chances, I am going to head butt somebody.

  18. Patience says:

John–so true. As one who doesn’t live in the US, though, I see a lot of people focusing on American issues instead of their own (South Africa leaps to mind), which is why I asked for clarification.

I love this site because of the focus on movies. Maybe if it was “TheMovieBlogAndOtherStuffWhenWeSeeFit.com” I’d be less bothered by the politicking.

P.S. I appreciate the strategic use of capitalization. ;-)

  19. SpaceAce says:

    big surprise.
    never would have guessed it.
the Obama future is bleak. heres to hoping Americans are more intelligent than that.

  20. Rick says:

I agree, go vote… but only if you are informed about either way you are voting… GO MCCAIN (The only smart choice in voting)

  21. Varun says:

Typical liberal blogsites, endorsing the better candidate and what not.

@Rick, Lol…… You are right McCain is a smart choice in voting…. McCain/Palin is a smart choice in SNL skits

  22. aaron says:

    i voted obama

  23. Steve L. says:

no matter your choice in candidates the best choice you can make is to go and vote! I waited 2 hours in line in Virginia and still glad I did, today is a historic day in America no matter the outcome.

  24. Mr. Chris says:

I live in Canada as well, but since your last President screwed up so much of the world, I’ve been following this election very closely. I think you guys are lucky to have a candidate like Obama running for office and I sincerely hope the best for his turn-out.

  25. Dragonslayer says:

I’m 14, so I can’t. If I could vote I would vote for Doug or a drunken Gary Busey

  26. aaron says:

woah!!! dragon, im 14 too lol. creepy…anywayz i meant i would vote for obama if i could

  27. kitty cats are funny! says:

    McCain ftw!

  28. Slushie Man says:

Leperchaun, this is a BLOG, therefor they can post what they want.

    sammy, they already explained.

While I don’t dislike Obama at all, IMO, I think McCain is the better choice. But it’s nice to have a year where I like both candidates and won’t be upset, no matter who wins. For once it’s the better of two goods instead of the worse of two evils, IMO.

  29. Slushie Man says:

*better of two evils* I meant.

  30. Voted for Obama One hr ago and feel great about it!

    Chuck

  31. How appropriate that those posters look like Cold War Era Marxist advertising.

    Vic

  32. doug nagy says:

The commies do have the best posters Vic.

  33. Dragonslayer says:

    Nagy for president

  34. Dragonslayer says:

    Better yet…V for president.

    Remember Nov. the 5th kiddies

  35. Kristina says:

I’ve never been so nervous on Election Day in my life.

  36. Monty says:

I voted days ago, but I’m not expecting much change from either canidate, just that same old tired Democratic/Republican policies recycled over and over again.

Whoever is elected, they wll be voted out of office in four years, for not delivering the “CHANGE” they were promising throughout their campaigns.

  37. “The commies do have the best posters Vic.”

    ROFLMAO!

    You rock, Doug. :-)

    Vic

  38. Dragonslayer says:

Screw November the 4th. It’s time we had a November the 5th

  39. EricD says:

Hey The Jim Walker, its cool to laugh at my impending doom too. Same as we can laugh at the impending doom of America when/if Obama wins.

  40. NineShooter says:

    @ EricD

So what you’re saying is that you hate America and everything it stands for right? I mean, America is based on Democracy, and if America chooses Obama you’re saying democracy is bad and so is everything about America?

So, I guess republicans hate America and are Anti-American after all.

  41. Ransom_Betty says:

Just voted for Barack Obama earlier today!

  42. BobaFett says:

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

Tell me John and Doug, are Canada’s social programs better for them as a nation? Car Insurance, Health Insurance for everyone!?

Respectfully as a veteran of two tours in Iraq, and someone who has voted in each election, I have to say, my choice for president is almost always against the side with all the money. Why?

Those special interests are BUYING influence.

This is a time for a person who will not only change our future, but preserve our place in the world.

I will credit both men today, as I think they both have great ideas. Especially compared to their predecessor.

Today we take our first step towards a new dawn. Businesses should be looking toward innovation. The Auto Industry is in trouble. Well, then change the system! Eliminate Auto Dealerships! Sell directly to the consumer! Cities should be spending money creating jobs (wi-fi Las Vegas, wi-fi Los Angeles, etc…), instead they are laying off teachers.

I’m working to create a restaurant using Microsoft Surface, with digital Menus, advertising and more right at the table! America needs to innovate or we will be passed by someone else.

Barack Hussein Obama or John Sidney McCain III

The choice is yours, mke sure you make it!

    Good Night, and Good Luck!

  43. T-VO says:

I voted for Obama because I won’t vote for a man who can’t high five me. :o)

  44. John says:

    Hey Bobba,

Yes, the social programs in Canada are vastly superior. One doesn’t have to worry ab out losing their home or going bankrupt if they get sick.

America, with the infrastructure they have CAN have an even better product of the same system than Canada does… but the rich medical insurance corporations in the US won’t allow it.

  45. Mikey says:

You forgot the Obama poster that says SOCIALISM underneath him….

  46. John says:

    Hey Mikey,

Americans who call Obama’s policies “socialist” make me laugh. You have NO IDEA what you’re talking about. In Canada we actually have an offical socialist party called the “NDP”. They are socialist.

But by all means, keep throwing around rhetoric like that.

It’s the exact same thing as calling someone who dislikes one black guy a “racist”. That’s exactly what you’re doing when you call Obama’s policies “socialist”

  47. Greg says:

    @ T-VO

You do know that he can’t high five you because of injuries he received in the Hanoi Hilton while being a prison of war. Serving our county so you have the right to vote and many other freedoms you no doubt take for granted.

If you don’t know you are just ignorant and I shudder to think of you voting. If you do know than you are just a sorry individual and a sad excuse for a human being let alone an american.

  48. Corey says:

    Pete.

Bush’s policies devastated the economy worldwide. Iceland for example, you have no idea what it did to them, they are RUINED as a nation. The American economy has a domino effect on all of us, so sorry buddy, but we may not get to vote but we have every right to tell you what we think.

  49. Mikey says:

Since when is taking money from people who earned it and giving it to those people living off welfare and other social programs who dont deserve it (Yes there are people on these programs that need it but most abuse it) not socialism? A theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. What is taxing the rich higher cause they make more then? Communism better? And I have a degree in Politicals. I have studied elections and politics for years. Spent countless hours on case studies. I have a good idea what I am talking about. Obama is nothing more then a guy running for his high school class presidency. Promising the world and then going to disappear once he is elected. I dont need a soda machine in my class room.

  50. Mikey says:

    @ Corey

Bush did not devestate the economy. The Democrats who opened up more liberal loans to those who could not afford them is what has killed our economy. All the banks going under and the housing market going to shit is because no one is paying back their loans that they couldnt afford in the first place. There also is other loans that are killing our economy like cars. 9 year leases!!!! Best quote of this entire election was “All I hear is I’m tired of Bush. Well I’m tired of Democrats tripping Bush and accusing him of falling” and that was from a former democrat. Not everything on CNN and MSNBC is fact.

  51. John says:

    Hey Mikey,

Well, I may not have a degree in “politicals”, but if I did have a degree in “politicals” I would tell you the same thing. Not constantly giving more and more and more tax breaks to the rich. Rescinding the unbalanced tax breaks given to the rich over the last number of years is not socialism. For a guy who has studied it, you sure don’t know much about it.

    “Most abuse it” REALLY? Most?

And since when are the middle class people who abuse the welfare system????? Get your facts straight.

  52. aaron says:

bush did ruin it, i voted obama

  53. Mikey says:

where did i say anything about the middle class?

  54. Varun says:

    @Greg

Wrong…. You are right to point out that it is not cool to make fun of POW Vets. You are wrong to state that the Vietnam war had anything to do with the protection of America’s right to vote. The Vietnam war was not about serving our country. The soldiers did what they were told and should be honored for that, but the war was a travesty of American Policy making.

    @Mikey
It seems like you actually don’t understand socialism or communism or probably Barack Obama’s taxation policies. Almost nothing of what Barack is doing is being invested directly into social welfare. He is giving tax breaks to the lower class in exchange for higher taxes else where, not putting it in the program or handing out money to people who “don’t deserve it.” It just seems like your understanding is off of how it works or even WHY Obama is being called a socialist.

Also, Obama is the one with too many promises? McCain: I know where Osama bin Laden is and how to get him, I know how to win wars, I know how to fix the economy, I know how to fix this country. All his promises, all quotes from him. If he knows this shit where has he been the past 8 years when everyone had their heads up their asses.

  55. Mikey says:

Where is the 3 TRILLION dollars in spending going to come from? During our economic crisis no less. Yeah only the rich are going to be taxed. Keep dreaming.

  56. Mikey says:

Start drug testing welfare programs. If I have to take one to get my job where I am taxed to have to pay taxes then I see no reason the same shouldnt hold true for someone receiving those benefits. Then see how many people stay on welfare programs….then we would have the extra cash lying around for these programs Obama wants to implement.

  57. John says:

    Hey Mikey,

    You said:

“Since when is taking money from people who earned it and giving it to those people living off welfare and other social programs who dont deserve it (Yes there are people on these programs that need it but most abuse it) not socialism?”

Clearly you don’t understand the issues in this election. The Obama tax plan isn’t about taking from the rich to give to the welfare. It’s about rescinding the stupid tax breaks given to the rich and shifting it to the middle class to revive the economy.

If you don’t like the plan, that’s totally cool and I respect that. But at least get what the election is about straight.

  58. Mikey says:

Its not going to happen no matter how much he says it will. As much as he wants to spend. Theres already been democrats to come out and say that his 250k is an over shot. thatits more like 120k per family. so if the numbers already been cut in half what does that mean once he is elected? I understand that welfare is not the issue here but if we werent spending so much on things like welfare we wouldnt have as many economic issues. Its a crutch and a waste of money. The middle class will get new taxes too. Its just a matter of time. Not to mention he bashes taxes on big business. But he neglects to mention that the reason tax breaks are given to big businesses are an attempt to prevent out sourcing.

  59. John says:

    Hey Mikey,

Well, if that’s your opinion I respect that… I totally disagree, but that’s what democracy is all about and it’s obviously to late to change your mind, so I won’t try.

Just remember how great democracy is tomorrow when it elects Barack Obama president.

PS. A good start to getting the economy back under control is to stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq. Just a thought.

  60. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

yeah well its FUCKING BULLSHIT that we have to wait until tomorrow to know who the president is…it should only take an hour for them to count all the votes

  61. Mikey says:

I hope that all of our wrong that dislike Obama and that he is a great president and restores our country to greatness.

  62. Mikey says:

    us our*

  63. Mikey says:

The difference is I will salute and respect Obama even though I dont agree with him, unlike his belief to our flag and national anthem.

  64. Are we having fun yet?

This is why I can’t wait until this damned election is behind us.

And T-VO, you are a putz. Why don’t you go make fun of some crippled people while you’re at it. Yeesh.

    Vic

  65. kitty cats are funny! says:

I hope the man wins that doesn’t believe there is over 57 States in the US.

  66. kitty cats are funny! says:

Oh ya, and the man that doesn’t insult his country by not raising his hand during the national anthem and refusing to ever wear an american flag pin on his suit. Ahem…

  67. PADTHAI says:

Obama won’t have the money to fully implement all the campaign promises he said in the campaign. The government is already broke and in a lot of debt. Right now, his most important job is to fix the economy and get the country out of the mire. He won’t be able to pull the army out of Iraq, it would cost too much money. He can’t give universal health care or college tuition to everybody.

  68. Seth says:

    Mikey

    Totally agree with you

I have to say though that many people really dont understand anything about this election beyond what the liberal media feeds them.Obama is so popular right now because he’s the media darling.THE DEMOCRATS CAUSED OUR ECONOMIC CRISIS.That’s right, and I’m sorry for any fellings that may be hurt by this anouncement.I could literally rant all night long about the hypocrasy and lies behind Obama and the democratic party(and I’m not hating on any democrats on this site:everyone is entitled to their own opinion,I simply believe that mine is correct)but I don’t have time.Instead I found a great little video on youtube that ilustrates my point on how THE DEMOCRATS ARE TO BLAME FOR OUR ECONOMY.

For anyone who doubts me go to youtube and watch”Burning Down the House:What Caused Our Economic Crisis.”

After you watch this I seriously hope that you vote for McCain.

    Go McCain.

  69. Alex says:

I live and Florida and voted for the first time today (I’m 19) for……………………………. McCain Palin!!!!!!!

  70. bjon86 says:

    VOTED!! FIRST TIME!!

  71. Monty says:

“PS. A good start to getting the economy back under control is to stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq. Just a thought.”

And will now be diverted to Afghanistan.

  72. adsf says:

Just wanted to let you know that I will NOT be voting PERIOD because of all the obnoxious pressure to do so. But if I were to vote, it would certainly NOT be for the candidate that the entire “kool kid” media is shoving down my throat.

  73. Dragonslayer says:

    Can’t vote, won’t vote

  74. Dragonslayer says:

Tommorow I’ll watch V for Vendetta, in celebration of Nov. the 5th

  75. EricD says:

    lol @ NineShooter

so you are trying to twist the fact that I think Obama being president is a huge disaster into me hating democracy? wow. did you hurt yourself stretching for logic like that?

  76. MikeyRox2006 says:

    OBAMA WON!!!
    HERE COMES CHANGE!!!
    YES!
First time voter here, and I actually feel like I have made a difference!

  77. aaron says:

    yep, he won!

  78. JD says:

so say we.. i mean, yes we can!

  79. Broly says:

    BARACK FUCKING OBAMA WON!!!! :P

  80. I’m 19, and this is the first true time I’ve been proud to be an American. This is one moment that I will never forget. I was a Political Science Major for my first year in college, and he is the main inspiration for that. I have been a fan of this man for about 4 years now, and this is something that, no matter what ignorant people say on their facebook status, can’t be taken away from us as a country. This is a great moment, and I’m proud to live in this country.

  81. Sorry. I’ve just an ample amount of friends of mine use their facebook as a soapbox to preach obvious falsities such as, Obama is Muslim and Obama is a terrorist. I honestly have had enough of people bickering about such obvious falsities. Seriously. We need to become the UNITED States of America under this brilliant man. We could not have asked for a better chance to prove to the world that we are truly the greatest country in this world. I am trying to be proud as an American, but ignorant people like some I know really ruin it for me. This is one of the greatest moments in our countries history, and we need to run with it.

  82. aaron g says:

i worked at a polling site here in orange county today and i want to thank everyone who voted in this election, irrespective of *who* they voted for. i’ve been an admirer of obama’s for a quite a while now, so it’s obvious where my vote went, but still, anyone who voted or worked for a campaign–thanks. it’s tireless, dogged work, but it’s extremely rewarding. i’m awestruck that obama won and i’m just grateful i was able to be a part of it in some small way.

  83. Maximo says:

Congratulations, America. You did something really great tonight. This Canadian is really proud of his neighbo(u)rs right now.

  84. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

    yeah
    no surprise

ive been saying obama will figuratively rape mcain so hard up the ass hell die from anal bleeding

he kicked his ass so badly

i found out like at 11 pm it wasnt even midnight yet

    palin did her job.

  85. Rick says:

Congratulations America, you elected a bigger fuck up than Bush and Carter!!!!

  86. giren says:

    CONGRATTTTSSSSS MR. OBAMA!!!!

We’re Indonesian support you all the way!!!! :-)

  87. ThereseJDanielsson says:

Not even a week after the president election the blond topblogger from Sweden, Linda Ekholm speaks out loud about Obama!
And I really believe this is truly written by heart. Scary!
