Baz Luhrmann takes on The Great Gatsby
Baz Luhrmann is thinking about taking on another literary classic to bring to the big screen. This time it would be the novel, The Great Gatsby.
“If you wanted to show a mirror to people that says, ‘You’ve been drunk on money,’ they’re not going to want to see it. But if you reflected that mirror on another time they’d be willing to.” Luhrman added, “People will need an explanation of where we are and where we’ve been, and The Great Gatsby can provide that explanation.”
I can totally see the subtle message sent in this and how it is relevant to today’s conditions. But he is right, he has to get on it right away if he wants that message to have value or at his rate of releases, we might be saying how this movie would have been important if it was released 5 years sooner.
I have always been a fan of Baz, so I expect nothing short of amazing again and again from him.

I am a fan of Baz and plan to see Australia… when it comes to DVD because theaters cost to much. I still want to see his take on Alexander.
@ Obi
I really think it’s a mistake to wait for DVD when it comes to Australia. You should really see it on a big screen, it is visually breathtaking and a great film overall. So if you get a chance see it in theatres you won’t be sorry.
Love Luhrmann for the Great Gatsby. I think his vision suits this story just fine.
“I have always been a fan of Baz, so I expect nothing short of amazing again and again from him.”
then i can only assume you have not seen australia yet. because its awful. jaw droppingly awful.
Why ruin what is already a great film…see the original with Redford…awesome.
Why assume that another adaptation or remake would automatically ruin it?
Interesting……I wonder if this will affect the next season of Entourage?
What the hell does this have to do with the next season of Entourage???
The Great Gatsby!!!! bottom of the Barrel I think!!!
