Garrett and Wilde sign on for Tron 2

By Rodney - December 17, 2008 - 06:30 America/Montreal

Looks like Beau Garrett and Olivia Wilde are the first two to put their quarters into the machine and press start. The pair of beauties have signed on for Tron 2.

Yahoo yodels:

The new movie is acting as a “next chapter.” Plot details are being guarded closely, but Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original. Garrett (”Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”) will play a siren in the virtual world.

Interestingly enough, the TR2N name or TRZ as rumoured were not mentioned and Yahoo chose to refer to it as Tron 2.0 (which is also the name of the videogame adaptation).

The appealing Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett would both look great in the standard black light accented bodysuit, but I am uncertain as to what a “Siren” might be inside the computer, so Beau might not get the standard worker uniform.

For me, Tron holds a special place in my childhood and though clearly dated by technology, if they stay close to the original minimalist style but update the tech we could be in for a treat.

Too bad TR2N is only coming out in 2011.

  2. I’m curious to what a Siren does too. I’ll take two wild guesses:

    ringtones?

something to do with a ‘Guitar Hero/Rockband’ type game?

    “clearly dated by technology”
but that’s not a bad thing, as the original took place in 1982. At that at that film’s end, the cyberworld got an upgrade. The big question is if we were to see that world now, would we still see the jumpsuits and neon? Would we see, instead of a jai-al lai type game to the death, we will see a judo/ju-jistu match?

One thing, however, I don’t want to see: Mickey Mouse in the cyber-hills. Or, in this upgrade, Hanna Montana.
