No Jurassic Park 4

Jurassic-Park-4-no.jpgI really enjoy the Jurassic Park movies. Who can ever forget the first one… the very first time we see the dinosaurs we all felt that same sense of awe and amazement that Sam Neil’s character did as he got out of the jeep. It was nothing short of magical. The films have diminished in quality, each one worse than the last… but I have to admit still getting a guilty pleasure out of the third movie.

With that being said, I’ve been one of those people really excited about the idea of a 4th movie in the franchise. Oh sure, I rolled my eyes as much as anyone when those rumors of “Dinosaurs with guns” started flying around last year, but even then I was ready to put my money down. Well, looks like I’ll be able to hold on to my money as the producers for the film seems to be saying Jurassic Park 4 is now dead. The folks at ComingSoon give us this:

Producers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy just revealed at today’s junket for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button that plans have fallen through for a fourth entry in the “Jurassic Park” franchise. When asked if there was any development on the long-anticipated sequel, Kennedy responded, “No… I don’t know. You know, when Crichton passed away, I sorta felt maybe that’s it. Maybe that’s a sign that we don’t mess with it.”

Oh well… thats a shame. Maybe someday the studios may return to the franchise, but for now it looks like the dream is dead. I for one am sad to hear this news. If nothing else it could have been another guilty pleasure. What do you guys think about this?

  1. just because a writer dies does not mean you cancel the movie happens alot just give someone else the reponsiblely to finish the movie i don’t care who i want to see the movie and hurry up

  2. just have michacel bay get payed too make part too do something cool that was never done or have someone make the movie i do not care if bay does it or rob zomble it does not matter bring the t rex back and the meat eaters that was not in the movie make the 4th the last one too come out you do not have too make the 5th just complete jurassic park 4 for all jurassic park fans

  3. You know, even if the movie was awful, the plot premise I’ve heard about is so incredibly retarded that I almost WANT it to get made. I mean, JUST so I can laugh at how the JP series has fallen.

Or, better yet, they could just remake the Lost World movie and make it not shit and at least somewhat accurate to the original.

  4. Jurassic Park 4 better get made. Maybe a member of the Muldoon family can come get revenge. JP and TLW were both great films because of Steven Spielberg and how he used animatronics and CGI. JP3 sucked because it used (pretty much) only CGI which sucked and was directed by the guy who did Jumanji. Bring steven back or bring in Rob Zombie! Or Quentin Terentino. This needs to be a dark, dark Jurassic Park.

  6. If they don’t make a JP4 for many years to come, they will probably make a remake of the first JP or JP4 will have a lot of tought put into it. I don’t even think that they have been thinking about a JP4 since JP3. JP3 was so bad they wanted to pretend it didn’t happen. The effects where getting worse as the movies went on. You couldn’t get wrapped up in JP3. It wasn’t believable and it didn’t pull you in like JP. As for dinosaurs with feather, I say we need to see a lot more with feathers. How can you walk away from the greatest dinosaur film/idea, and say it’s dead. No other dinosaur movie will be as good as Jurassic Park. If any of you want, go to youtube and look up JTMHollywood,”JP4 talk idea.” I have 11 videos sharing my idea for JP4. Yes it takes place on the first island, but that sure beats The Lost World island and the city. I was a kid when JP first came out. And if I could have seen where the series where heading, I might have stopped being a fan.

  7. I’d rather see raptors with guns than raptors with feathers. While I mourn special effects wizard Stan Winston, it deeply disturbed me he would have been willing to put feathers on the JP raptors.

  8. Even though I’m a huge movie buff with tons of films under my belt – wonderful, good, bad, and really really bad, when someone asks me what my favorite movie is, the answer is Jurassic Park. It’s one of very few movies I can think of that I can watch over and over. If it’s on TV, I will usually stop the channel and watch despite having seen it so many times before. Sure the second and third one were pretty much just schlock popcorn flicks, but I don’t care. Dinosaurs are awesome and kick ass so there should be more movies with them tearing shit up. Prequel, sequel, I don’t care. I just want more awesome dinosaurs and no movie or series seems to do it better than JP.

  9. I would love to see a fourth one, but as a prequel. Get John Hammond getting the dinosaurs together on Isla Nublar and whatnot. That would fascinate me, even if it wasn’t directly 100% on the nose with the novels (believe it or not, kids, books and movies are two different mediums!)

  10. The problem with the JP series is the second movie was truly terrible. They didn’t follow the book which was IMHO better than the first book.
Also, don’t ever cast Julianne Moore in a sequel.

  11. @ Kristina

Actually, I’d like to have seen it made just to eventually see the guy who thought it was a good idea try and explain his reasoning to a laughing audience.

“I mean, kids like dinosaurs and kids like guns. What could go wrong? I mean, I didn’t expect people would find it ridiculous when I added in ninjas either. Kids love ninjas.”

  12. Jurassic Park was the early 90’s kids (my generation) “Star Wars” type movie. I saw it at the perfect age and it changed my life and pretty much put me on the career path I am still on. I loved it and I loved The Lost World (again, perfect age for it). By the time 3 came out it was a popcorn flick, but it still brought back great childhood memories.

Because of this, I want to see another Jurassic Park, just like 70’s kids wanted to see another Star Wars prior to Episode 1 being released (and 80’s kids wanted Indiana Jones). But, part of me doesn’t want to see another Jurassic Park because of what happened to Episode 1+. If they make another Jurassic Park there better be care put into it and not make it an action/dinosaur flick.

If it takes time to make a better Jurassic Park 4 then I am satisfied, but I do want one. We had to wait over a decade for Rocky, Rambo, Die Hard, Indiana Jones, etc and (with varying levels of success) they were worth the wait.

  13. I can’t believe they’ve been working on it this long just to drop it. I would’ve tried to pull off one good last one just to honor Crichton himself. But it probably isn’t dead for good anyway. Just as long as whoever picks it up years down the road isn’t only looking for a quick buck.

  14. I wish it would stay dead, but I agree with the previous two posts, nothing is dead these days. I don’t see anything good coming from this franchise, and I don’t think things have changed enough for a rehashing, so they should just leave it alone.

  15. It’s probably just the emptiness left by Crichton’s death. But once time passes, they’ll probably try to revisit it. Look how long it took till The Mummy 3 hit. sure they came out at the same time, Mummy 2 and JP3, but it’s still a similar prospect.

  16. It WILL be made. It’s just a matter of when. With the recent return of all these once-dead series’ (Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Rambo, Rocky, Terminator, ect), it’s only a matter of time until their eyes fall upon the money machine that is Jurassic Park. Even the 3rd one, while making the least amount out of all three, still pulled in quite a lot of money.

This day in age, no series is dead.
