Robin's stand-up special (on HBO in the US) from 5-6 years ago was easily the funniest routine I have ever seen. I bought it on DVD after seeing it and I still watch it every few months and belly laugh. It's an hour and a half of hilarious, high energy.

In the special features, you'll learn that the first 15-20 minutes were performed for the first time onstage. It was a combination of ad libbing and jokes he outlined in the days before the show. That's amazing that he pulled that off with the pressure of a filmed performance.

@ Nevada
"Other than Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam name me a movie of his you could watch without getting violently ill"

August Rush, Night at the Museum, Man of the Year, RV, Robots, Insomnia,Death to Smoochy, One Hour Photo, Bicentennial Man, Patch Adams, Deconstructing Harry, Hamlet, Jack, Jumanji, Nine Months, Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Hook, The Fisher King, Shakes the Clown, Awakenings, Dead Poets Society, The World According to Garp.

Just off the top of my head.

And Bob Hope was funny, but he was also a different era. Things that pass for funny 30 years ago, are not funny now. Watch old TV sitcoms and try and imagine how many of those would have made it in today's market. Mork and Mindy wouldn't.

Robin Williams is the only actor I'd ever believe as The Ventriloquist.

Yeah, I shoehorned a Batman casting rumor into this thread. What?

Rodney

Bob Hope was considered funny by whom? I never met anyone my age who thought he was funny. Canned jokes, punchlines you can see coming a mile away. Sure I give him respect for taking shows to the troops in Vietnam and other war zones. Shit they don't care what they get as long as they get to see a little Ann Margaret or Raquel Welch with some skimpy outfit. But humor? Bob Hope was most definately NOT funny. Robin Williams at least had his moments until he became a caricature. Other than Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam name me a movie of his you could watch without getting violently ill. I'm sorry he might be an icon, a legend, he WAS innovative and somewhat funny 30 years ago. I actually have a soft spot in my heart for him after having run into him once on 7th St and 6th Ave in NYC and a bunch of us inviting him up to an apt. for a bit of a party and him accepting. He was the most normal "star" we had ever met (somewhat before Mork & Mindy exploded). That being said his last 10-20 years have not been kind.

Hey Rodney, save me a seat! lol

altho, gotta say, wen i 1st saw this post, i was a little worried he had... y'know.
Altho he may not b getting much work in Hollywood nowadays (i mean, come on, his last film was RV), Robin Williams is an entertainment icon that will never be forgotten.

Man, Robin Williams is an absolute legend. Thanks for the youtube post! I always love seeing his guy...he's just incredible. Joke after joke.

And about American politics for the Britts...
I'm from Australia, and I have to tell you guys, American politics is a very big topic of conversation here...so I don't see why it wouldn't be in the UK.

Well Nevada, you will find yourself in a minority there.

And also, considering you made the comparison, Bob Hope was considered funny right until his end as well.

Robin Williams is the Bob Hope of our generation. A totally unfunny hack who throws as much shit against the wall and sees if some of it sticks. Robin Williiams hasn't been funny in at least 25 years and hasn't made a decent movie in at least that long. Everytime I see him come on a show I retch and pray for his death (or mine).
