Hey Rodney, Star Trek’s not dead, just sleeping, but I won’t get into that one again ;) I completely agree that it’s exactly what Trek needed. I’ve been saying for years that the tired old formula just wasn’t working anymore.

There are many episodes and films from all the series that are absolutely still great, but it’s funny that I find that many of them just don’t hold up to the passage of time. I’m really hoping that they do it right, and I have really high hopes. I’m just trying not to over-hype it.

@Alphie, John and I both agree that Trek is a dead franchise. I have been saying for years (even before Nemesis) that Trek cant float on its own anymore. Its rabid fanbase isnt as rabid anymore.

This however is a whole new Trek that still respects the old (its still canon while rebooting)

This is exactly what Trek needed. If its great it will be great all on its own and revitalize the series. If not, nothing would have saved what they had before this idea came out, so its no worse.

@Carlos, it is a sequel. In the tradition of Star Trek there is a time travel plot but this time they go back and change something critical and starts a new timeline in which this event reshapes the directions and motivations of the characters involved.

Totally psyched for this movie. Looking forward to the fresh take on this franchise, in all the movies combined they have never taken any chances always staying very close to what they perceive Trek Fans will love and also won’t. This movie should break that stereotype and hopefully reboot the franchise, they even took a big chance updating the Starship Enterprise but it sorely needed an injection of modern movie making magic. If this franchise is to survive and move on they have to take some chances and gain new fans, not just the die hard trekkies that are always loyal.

oh and I am excited for the flick but one thing worries me – zachary quinto. He is one of the worst actors around. He may look like spock but he can’t act for shit.

He is just lucky to be surrounded by Milo ventigmigltialgi and Hayden planeterium on heroes because they make him look better than he is as they actually are the two worst actors working today in any medium. that includes porn.

last time i went on opening day was The Dark Knight
