Iron Man Obliterates Blu-ray Record

Ironman-05 Normal

Lord Favreau has loosed Iron Man to pilfer the pockets of consumers for record setting Blu-ray sales! We get wind of this triumph thanks to our friends at the movieweb:

According to Blu-ray.com, director Jon Favreau told Howard Stern on his radio program that the Iron Man Blu-ray disc has already become the best-selling BD disc of all time, after just two days of release.

Final Blu-ray sales figures won’t be in until next week and, of course, this isn’t an official announcement, but apparently Favreau has some inside sales figures on his latest directorial effort.

We have to take this claim with a grain of salt until it becomes official, but it wouldn’t surprise me at this point. I was shocked to see how well Iron Man was received in theaters, people ate it up. So it makes sense to me that buzz has grown and now many are purchasing the film on the Blu-ray.

The special effects were outstanding and a Blu-ray set up would certainly give you the best home recreation available.

I can picture this film being played on a lot of televisions at electronics stores for the next year; if you want to see the movie for free – that would be one way to do it.

  1. The amazing thing is that Paramount had a major defective issue that they kept fairly quiet last week. The first run of disc would have problems playing on Blu Ray players that are enabled to go to the internet (almost all of the Sony players as well as the PS3 machines) Paramount rushed new disc to make it to the stores in time BUT did not recall the defective disc so Sony owners (myself included) had a hit or miss with the release. Some were able to get the updated disc while others had to go through 5 and 6 rounds of returning the movie before they got one that could play. My copy would not play. After reading several blogs I reset the BD Live setting on my PS3 to confirm before playing. After that the movie played fine. I decided that rather than go through the return cycle, that I would simply live without the extra content that you get with the BD Live. Paramount would later claim that the disc were not the problem but rather the servers that the extra content were slammed and caused lock ups of the disc. The new disc would allow you to access the movie without having to download or reset your system settings.

  2. I’m just wondering how many of those BRD’s were given away as freebies with the purchase of BR players… I know in Canada, Best Buy and Future Shop are giving them away, so those numbers of actual sales of Iron Man might be a bit more skewed than you think.

  3. Just curious about the comment “I was shocked to see how well Iron Man was received in theaters”. What was it was about the movie that you didn’t think people wouldn’t like, besides the fact that it wasn’t batman.

  4. yeah, yamo said it. iron man will be tops till TDK is released, then its short reign will be over and i also predict TDK’s blu-ray sales will dwarf iron man’s in a shorter amount of time, too.

  5. Yeah just wait till The Dark Knight comes out people will kill anyboby when the movie comes out the bul-ray and DVD. Lord Favreau wont be on top for long
