Star Trek Trailer Online

Looks like the new Star Trek Teaser Trailer was launched this weekend, and in place of some official trailer that is certainly due to be released online in a few days, we get this pirated camshot of the trailer instead.

Now, I was skeptical at first seeing modern 20th century cars, but I imagine it will be explained as Kirk taking some “ancient antique” out for a drive. Seems everything else is pretty futuristic in line with the timeframe of Kirk’s lifespan.

Other than that momentary ‘wtf’ double-take it all looks awesome. We will post an official one as soon as it is released.

  1. Could be protocol at the time. If you are addressed by security or military and asked your name, you give it all.

Much like current military would expect when asking for identification. Name Rank and Company.

  2. Also, the way the kid introduces himself in the beginning made me cringe. What kid says their full name like that? Know what that reminded me of?

    “You’re a slave?”

“I’m a person, and my name is ANAKIN!”

  3. FunkyMunkey ,

You didnt like the hole 20 minute part of looking for the glasses in the house with the autobots waiting outside and the mom talking about special alone time? lol

  4. Michael you act like you are the only one spouting that “they look like kids” garbage. Get over yourself.

And yes, this site did carry on about Transformers and how good it would be. And guess what? It was good. You didn’t like it? Fine. No one said you had to.

But it was a great popcorn flick and a LOT of people loved it. Just because you didn’t doesn’t automatically make everything we say a lie.

  5. Awesome, bloody bloody awesome!

The first thing I said after I saw it was “why isn’t this coming out next month like it was supposed to” but in retrospect, this definately looks like a rock and roll summer action movie.

I love seeing the trailer wars that play out this time every year when the studios release the first big previews for their summer blockbusters. Some are good, some are crap, and there is one that stands out among the competition as the one to beat and the one everyone ends up taling about. Last year, of course, it was ‘The Dark Knight’ trailer. This year, I highly doubt anything is gonna beat Star Trek for buzz.

  6. Michael, I like the look of this movie, but you have a very good point there. Both seriously hyped (by geeks), and Transformers was crap.

Snakes on a Plane was similarly over-hyped and similarly crap.

PS. Pirated trailers are crap – I can hardly tell what’s going on!

I’m the inverse, I can’t see why people are getting excited but let me tell you a quick story. Sometime in 2007, I started reading this website, there were lots of articles of Transformers and such, a movie I wasn’t too bothered by (mainly because of michael bay), then after reading a continous stream of articles I allowed myself to be get excited. But when I saw the movie, apart from the special effects I thought it was big load of steaming poo poo. Let me look at the comparision between transformers and the new star trek:

every second articles on movieblog is about the movie
    written by the same people
    special effects ridden
big directors that use effects instead of storylines

    etc.

In essence, I have legitimite reasons not to get excited about this movie, AND I AM NOT FORCING MY OPINION DOWN ANYONES THROAT so stop implying I’m making things up just because I disagree with your opinion.

Why would I make things up not to like this movie in the first place?

  8. HULK SMASH!…………

looks kinda buble gum but hey its a revision and i think it looks more reallistic then the old concepts…..i mean come on man shit looked sweet….and ya im not a die hard fan either just a average nerd who thought having the force was way cooler then the holodeck!

  9. Wow. I’m not even a fan and I thought that was pretty cool. Focus on Kirk & Spock’s origins and how they came to be friends, thusly leading to the whole crew’s involvement like a family. A few cool-looking exploits/monsters were present at least. I never thought I’d say I liked something realted to Star Wars, but bravo. Of course the movie is still in the kettle and not ready to be served yet, but at least the trailer looked good.

And to all the AVPR stuff: The trailer was stupid, and the movie was a disappointing, gory, mindless mess. It in no way compares to this one, but I see the point of the argument.

  10. @Philipo … I am not entirely certain that anything you said makes a lot of sense.

They can’t do a New Star Trek because of Galaxy Quest? And Bond had a problem after Austen Powers? I must have missed that.

You talk about ReBoot like its a bad thing? Re-envisioning is not a get out jail card, its just smart to not beat a dead horse.

  11. rodney
yeah..i saw that when i was like five and there where asian people..i really dont remember it that well…i just remember asian people and spok fighting kirk

i…dont remember the story to it..but it just came back to me just now that once spok wore a goatee

so he was evil? man ive never really seen a full episode/movie of star trek…just bits and pieces..and all when i was little

  12. i really dont know how they can make a new star trek movie after Galaxy Quest – i mean Bond had the same problem after Austin Powers so they copied Bourne to remedy becoming a parody of itself (look at Die Another Day – ouch).

what im saying is im afraid that this will turn Star Trek into something its not (darker/more actiony/more slick). i hope that it will keep the classic Star Trek charm but im going to have to wait and see.

*ps: a trailer of a reboot attached to a reboot (part2 anyways) lol.
The “Reboot-button” seems to be a get-out-of-jail card for hollywood atm.

  13. padthai

yeah- but its a different time so its cool to have fight scenes…i remember when kirk fought this dinosaur looking guy that threw a boulder atr him…and had a stick on him….oh man what a shitty scene

as long as they dont ever plan on having spok with the beard im fine (yes. he did have a beard once)

  14. HAZMAT,

yeah.. i think there’s always been two sides to Star Trek movies. They want to make it more action oriented to please the action crowd, but still try to be about ideas and morals. I think they should avoid the action, focus more about ideas but do it in an entertaining way that won’t bore the audience. Star Trek movies has never had good action scenes but they always try to, they should stop with the same space battles that are usually slow and boring. I want to see it become a more thoughtful science fiction fanchise that poses thought provoking questions, i’m thinking of movies like Contact, Pi, The Arrival, Planet of the Apes.

  15. Since Friday I’ve been reading comments on multiple websites, sites such as Entertainment Weekly, Coming Soon, and Trek Movie to name a few. So what you say, so have I. But you may have missed, through unedited ramblings, the pattern that I discovered, which I now believe to be a syndrome of galactic proportions. In fact, I fear some may loose much to this disorder that I have now come to call: Neural Mutation Trek Syndrome five-two-point-one or NMTS. And did I mention it’s rampant in Paris?

I know what you’re asking yourself, what are the symptoms? Who is susceptible? Does it cause a rash and if so, is the antiseptic cream expensive because I don’t have insurance? Well, fortunately it does not cause the aforementioned problem.

    Whew!
    I know.

Well what does—Neural Mutation Trek Syndrome five-two-point-one or NMTS 5 2.1—do? How is it transmitted? First of all, it is transmitted through visual stimuli of JJ Abrams new Star Trek photos, trailers or related media and there are two types of sufferers.

    The Non-Trekkie Sufferer
Their symptoms include: giddiness and childlike wonder and some have even had fits of w00ting. And if that isn’t bad enough, others have even implied seeing the film. This, in my opinion, is tantamount to a psychotic episode.

    The Trekkie Sufferer
Their symptoms can include: fits of writing on message boards the non-word, Sh!t, or in combination with other words to form the more complex, JJ Abrams sh!t on canon. But even more importantly, some have even implied they would not see the film after viewing the trailer. This too, in my opinion, is tantamount to a psychotic episode.

While there is no cure for Neural Mutation Trek Syndrome five-two-point-one or NMTS, there is always the hope that one day both suffers of the condition can find relief after Star Trek hits the theatres.

And for us non-sufferers—man… isn’t that trailer cool?

  16. i cant tell anything from this.
i think the guy makes a good kirk in looks at least.

i really hope this thing is character study intense.
but i doubt thats what they think the general audience wants.

  17. I saw this during Ouantum of Solace and I actually wasn’t impressed. Not only because I’m not a Star Trek fan, but it just didn’t do it for me. The Watchmen Trailer did though.

Quantum of Solace is the shit!

  18. I love how they blasphemed the old classic star trek lettering up at the end of the trailer just in case people were wondering if the trailer was for something else…..like Starlet Trek

  19. You can’t see that this movie is appealing to mainstream? You can admit that and still say it will be a great movie. See watch…..

I think this is a new Star Trek, it’s less science and more popcorn

AND I thnk this will be a great movie

  20. I have grown used to people who can’t find anything really wrong with this making up stuff that doesn’t even make sense in order to criticize it.

People nitpick at tiny things when there is nothing left to complain about so every time I hear that 90210Trek or OC-Trek crap I just laugh. That’s the most you have to complain about?

I am so excited about this movie.

  21. I am still VERY, shall we say, divided about this new Trek. (I am a 25 year fan of the movies, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT) But that trailer was pretty slick. The SFX do remind me of Star Trek, the space battles looked very similar, with maybe a hinto more action/speed.

Did y’all check out the “transporter” effect around spock when he beams in that one scene? (Its kinda hard to see with the bootleg version…) He kinda has rings around him. That was cool.

Ans Scotty seemed funny. Althouhg i still wonder why they went with the whole “original” pajama shirt look for the uniforms. I think they easily could have updated for 2009 while keeping the overall feel.

Regardless, this trailer has only made me feel more positive about the reboot, which is a good thing.

And PS – the Official version of the trailer hits the website at 1pm Eastern Time tomorrow (Monday). Why such an odd time i dont know.

  22. PADTHAI
i think thats why more people like star wars better (WOW please dont get on my balls for saying that!) so maybe they just want to change the way theyre doing things…maybe get more people into it…instead of plotting and thinking..theyre going to do just that…and a little bit of blowing up ships..a couple of fight scenes..and even tits as you can see

  23. I fully expect to be made as much fun of for being excited about this movie as i was for being excited for transformers.
And the same mofos will be eating the same crow.

With the mainstream-ization (?) of sci-fi slash comic book material being made into some of the best movies and tv lately, it’s official:

Geek is the new cool. Star Trek FTW.

  24. This looks like they’re trying hard to make it cool and more like a big summer action film for the masses. Star Trek is supposed to be about ideas, not ships blowing up and all that shoot-em up action. That stuff is for Star Wars.

  25. then don’t say that you could be mistaken, but one version of the trailer did have christmas music, yes, a haunting version of ava maria to be precise, the film was released christmas day so it was sort of fitting, i’m not mistaken

    back to star trek anyone?

    good

  26. when he says “my name is james t. kirk” i seriously went nuts.
    thanx rodney

    you guys
what, the fuck. eric bana is in this and karl urban. simon pegg is in his early 30s. whoevers playing spok and kirk have to be in their late 20s.
the only person that i consider to look like a teenager (realistically speaking) is the little squirt from alpha dog

    MICHAEL
the AVP 2 trailer had christmas music if im not mistaken (and im not)

  27. you wouldn’t think it looking at the pictures, even pegg looks ten years younger, anyway i reserve final judgement till after i see the movie, trailers tend to em overstate certain aspects to get people on board i.e. AVP 2 trailer looked just as good

  28. saw this trailer in Quantum of Solace (which I really enjoyed, a tip: watch casino RIGHT before you go, its basically one movie) and i think it looks really good. this is coming from a hardcore star wars fan so that means somthing. jj abrams is magic anyway so i think i might actually betray my geekdom and check this out…

  29. why would picard try to be like kirk????????????

    nevermind

i’m taking the trailer at face value, an advertisement. what is this trailer trying to tell us about the movie?

    there is:

    action
origin story (which sounded awful but i’ll wait and see)
    friendship born from conflict
    comedy from scotty
    smooth
wants to be the best thing that ever happened to star trek

All I can really tell is that there will be a few good action scenes and alot visual and audio references to star trek of old (to keep the fans on board but from i’ll be watching style and tone). I don’t like how kirk is being portrayed as a teenage rebel without a cause but hopefully the movie will down play it more than the trailer does.

  30. Picard is enjoyed because of his long history through out the series and movies he was in.

A history free Picard, trying to be Kirk wouldn’t appeal to any of the fans. Part of the appeal of this is to appeal to fans despite changing the days to come.

  31. I wonder if it would be a good idea to recast Picard and his crew but have them be of the same generation as Kirk and his crew?

They seem to be the most liked crews of Star Trek. Seems like fans would enjoy more Picard & Kirk interaction in a rebooted version.
