Valkyrie Delayed To 2009

More troubling news for Valkyrie this morning. It appears the film is being pushed back to 2009, we get news of this shuffle thanks to the fabled caves of Yahoo:

The MGM release has been moved from October 3 to February 13, coinciding with the U.S. Presidents Day holiday weekend. Last December, it was pulled from its original July 4 holiday weekend berth where it would have competed with the Angelina Jolie thriller “Wanted.” “When an opening became available for President’s Day Weekend, we seized the opportunity,” said MGM distribution president Clark Woods, referring to Universal’s recent decision to pull “The Wolf Man” out of that slot and into April 3.

The news circling this project has been akin to a flock of vultures. With each news release new questions arise and my expectations drop. Just yesterday we posted about a Fox rep that has seen the film and said it sucked. Now we learn of another rescheduling.

Perhaps President’s Day is a better day for the film’s release – but I am guessing it’s due to lack of competition and a hope to call “dibs” on the far off weekend. I am guessing that they expect this to tank and want to bring in the best opening possible; because the subsequent drop off will be severe.

On the bright side, perhaps a drinking game will be made to coincide with the watching of Valkyrie.

  1. And OMG, I just watched the trailer. Is Cruise suppsoed to be German in this? ! Holy moly, if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, watch it and just listen to his voice. It is the worst accent I’ve ever heard in my life!

  2. Also, this thing has been pushed to Valentine’s weekend. Who the hell wants to be thinking about Fearless Leader Cruise on a night when they’re trying like hell to fuck their date?

  3. I’m hoping that this is a decent movie for him. Despite what’s happened in recent years, I still think the man is a very good actor. Having said that, I have not seen “Lions For Lambs”.

Unfortunatly, his personal life is going to effect how some people are going to view his performances from now on..

God I love the Hollywood spindoctors. Yeah, i am SUUUUURE thats what they were ‘waiting for’… an “opportunity” to move their film. I never realized the movie industry was like a frickin doctors office. Did Valkyrie need a referal to move to its new date? Does Pres day weekend accept it’s insurance?

    Oye.

  5. I thought he became even more popular after that water shooting incident lol. I mean everyone knew that Tom was an A-Lister and he is hounded by the press a lot, and for a stupid person to do that to him did seem to put a lot people on Tom’s side.

Then he does that shit with Brooke Sheilds, and the Sofa Jump, and well, his popularity takes a huge hit.

I really like the man, but I don’t know when he’ll recover his public image debacle.

  6. @ Kristina….”He lost his guy cred when he hopped up and down on Oprah’s couch like a two year old throwing a tantrum….”

That I do believe commenced an era of his demise!

  7. Well, Cruise is crazy as a bedbug. Lions For Lambs, if I’m not mistaken, was his worst performing movie in YEARS. I know that actors’ personal lives shouldn’t dictate whether people go to see their flicks, but this guy has turned off nearly his entire fanbase. He pissed off every woman I know when he went off on Brooke Shields and her baby-hating depression. He lost his guy cred when he hopped up and down on Oprah’s couch like a two year old throwing a tantrum. Dude isn’t done in Hollywood yet, but man, nobody’s been burning more bridges lately than he has.
