4th Annual Movie Blog Oscar Podcast This Sunday
Hey everyone. This is just a heads up that this Sunday The Movie Blog will be podcasting the Oscars.
We’re going to be doing it a little bit different this year. Instead of doing short little 2 minute podcasts during each commercial break, we’re going to do 2 longer podcasts.
1) The first podcast will be an Oscar Pre-Show podcast. It will go online about an hour before the Oscars start (4pm PST, 7pm EST)
2) The second podcast will be our recap, reactions and analysis of the show which will be online about an hour after the Oscars end.
Joining me this year for the podcasts will be:
Kristopher Tapley from InContenntion.com
Robert Sanchez from IESB.Net
Soul Video (aka Jon Green) former Uncut producer
Chuck Norris, also former Uncut Producer
We hope you join us!

I will join you guys!
BENJAMIN BUTTON FOR BEST PICTURE
HEATH LEDGER BEST SUPPORTING
SEAN PENN BEST ACTOR
If Benjamin Button wins a huge scream will be heard all across Nashville- yikes it was a bad picture. (no offense Aaron ;)
If Benjamin Button wins, I’m going to throw up. It’s a decent movie, but shouldn’t have been nominated for best picture.
I will throw up before that if Eric Roth wins for best adapted screenplay, since he pretty much copied his own Forest Gump screenplay for Benjamin Button.
Dennis
if Heath Ledger(RIP) doesnt win then im gonna lose all hope in the oscars.
Hey Gigian300
I don’t know man… Ledger is my pick and all… but there were some AMAZING supporting performances this year and I honestly don’t think Ledger’s Joker was “head and shoulders” above them. Especially Brolin in Milk
Have you seen all these guys this year:
Josh Brolin, “Milk”
Robert Downey Jr., “Tropic Thunder”
Phillip Seymour Hoffman, “Doubt”
Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”
Michael Shannon, “Revolutionary Road”
well to be honest i never really liked the oscars or any other award show and im one of those who agree w/ you that TDK didnt diserve MOVIE OF THE YEAR title but IMO his was the best performance ive seen out of all of them, but like i said its just my opinion.
And I share your opinion. I just wouldn’t be “outraged” if Heath didn’t win. But I think it’s pretty clear he will.
well i wouldnt be outrage if he didnt win and if i gave u that impression then i apologized for the misunderstanding, but its not like i benefit if he wins or loses, i think it would just …you know suck.
i guess i should have worded my first comment differently.
I’ve seen all the supporting performances this year and compared to Ledger, Shannon gets my substitute vote. But with Ledger, it was more like an embodiment than a performance. With a performance, you could still see the “actor” and I couldn’t see any of Ledger inside of the Joker.
BTW, Shannon’s performance was tops and he’s my pick for the Joker if they EVER do a third Nolan Batman with him.
Gigan, yep, i agree but you know he will
I imagine John with that look everytime he reads my comments…
i loved the dark knight like i loved transformers 1 but with less flaws. So I’m not mad it didn’t get more noms because it was a good movie but not that good to eclipse these great films. I Just hope ledger wins because i loved his character but i will understand if he does not because there are some great supporting performances this season.
John looks like he’s staring at the binary sunset on Tatooine.
I can almost hear the John Williams music now.
Monty, that might not be a bad thing…
Cool sounds like a good time oh and how is the progress with your film going John?
Hey man it’s cool, that’s your opinion, completely respected by me. I loved it though, but anyone besides me think Benjamin Button or Slumdog will take it home? MILK was amazing, it might too
Benjamin Button? How did you stand Cate Blanchett caked in old-age makeup? – one or two flash-forwards is ok – but there seemed to be dozens! ;)
(full disclosure = i walked out = i just couldn’t take it)
I’m actually supporting Benjamin Button, but most likely Slumdog Millionare will win.
No Doug?
:*(
This makes me sad, but I am sure the show will be great anyways.
Jett, did you like MILK?
Sure, it was well made middlebrow entertainment – analogous to the ‘teaching’ pics that Spielberg does, (Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, etc.) -
so, by it’s very nature it could’nt be a real film, a real exploration of something – it had an agenda to showcase and establish Milk as a genuine American hero, which it did, and he was – and for that reason it’s worth watching I think :)
Slumdog Millionaire will win best picture, director, original song, and adapted screenplay. I’m hoping Mickey Rourke will win best actor, but I think Sean Penn will end up winning it. Heath IMO is a lock for best supporting actor, the only actor who touches him is Brolin. Wall-E WILL win best animated picture. Kate Winselt is overdue…
Winslet
Benjamin Button was a extremely well done movie, but IMO very boring and only worthy of a best pic nod for how well MADE it was, the writing was absolutely atrocious.
Ohhhh Yeahhhh! I dont really care about the Oscars but Im excited about a pod cast with old-time Movie Blog commrads. I wonder if will get audio commercials for the Anniversary lol.
I HAVE TO SAY THE FACT THAT IN BRUSE IS NOT NOMINATED IS FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IS KINDA OF BULL SHIT BUT THEY GIVE DOWNY JR A NOMINATION
You can always root for the category of “Best Original Screenplay” Ezell. That pretty much takes care of at least one nomination for In Bruges.
Downey was great in Tropic Thunder. He was great all last year in fact (also in Charlie Bennett, and, of course, Iron Man)
An all-star Uncut for the Oscars! Nice.
Whoa! You, Tapley, Soul Video, Robert Sanchez, and Chuck Norris! That’s an impressive lineup you got going there. Looking foward to it.
Slumdog FTW
I hope Anne for Best Actress, but I know she won’t win :S it’ll be Kate Winslet just because of pity.
I’m pulling for Rourke in the actor category but wouldn’t mind if Penn won it.
Glad to see that the Movieblog will be podcasting on the Oscars as usual! I will join you all night (in Sweden, the Oscars start at ca 2 am), looking forward to it!
/Thomas, Stockholm
Slumdog will probably win
hey are you going to post a recording of the pod cast after the show becuase i dont know if will be abile to listen in on it and i would love to
John,
Will we also get video of these podcasts? It would be cool – particularly to see the immortal Chuck Norris!:)
I agree with you John about Ledger – I think it’s pretty clear he’ll win but I don’t think it’s a lock. I mean you’re right there were some fantastic performances this year, particularly in the supporting actor catagory. I mean I know he only had a couple of scenes but, man, was Michael Shannon phenominal in Revolutionary Road. I still would give it to Ledger at the end of the day but if Shannon had had more than just two scenes I’d have to seriously rethink that one…
Video or not I look forward to the show – although it would be awesome if we had both:)
Just watched “W.” and was surprised that Brolin didn’t get a nomination. The voice, the mannerisms… he really nailed it, I thought.
I think Josh Brolin did a great job as well. I think if the movie had gotten more attention, he would have been nominated, but it seems like a forgotten movie this year.
Dennis
All I want is for Hugh Jackman to knock it out of the park as a host–so he can return next year.
Other than that:
1) If Ledger loses, I will expect a lot of hissy fits. ( “Graverobbers!!!”) But I really don’t want to hear them for three weeks. I’m actually thinking Brolin will walk away with it as well.
2) If “Milk” loses Best Picture, I will expect a lot f hissy fits ( “The HATE!!!” ) like there was when Brokeback lost not too long ago. I, too think ‘Slumdog’ will win. It’s been the heads on darling for the past month.
3) I do want Marisa Tomei to win. Not just because I always liked her, it’s just because …well, I’ve always liked her. Other than that, if her name is called, there dieth that Urban Legend of her and her ‘92 Vinny win once and for all.
4) To echo my dear Kristine, I expect Sean Penn to Win; but it would be great if Rourke won. I would love to hear both acceptance speeches. Penn might give a shout out to those who protested the prop eight passing; Rourke will give another shout out to his dog.
5) The In Memorium…I expect clips of/from Sydney Pollack , Anthony Minghella, (*both of who produced ‘The Reader”-the only reason its nom’d for Best Picture) Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Newman, Heston, Stan Winston…and a shout out to Don LaFontaine.
where can i follow the podcasts?
thank you
