Paul Blart gets Taken at the Boxoffice
The movie seen round the world before it hit the North American market has made for a good showing at the boxoffice finally dethroning the King of Queens’ comedy hit Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
When I posted about this last week, the International Friends from outside the Western World gave a near unanimous vote of confidence in the Liam Neeson suspense action flick Taken, and if the trailer hadn’t already convinced me the buzz surely would have.
Liam Neeson, deciding he’s not going to let some mall cop get in his way, busted out a good fashioned can of ticket sales whoop ass on Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Taken has been out for a while overseas, but word of mouth rocketed its U.S. debut to #1 over its opening weekend with $24.6 million dollars.
But to be fair, Paul Blart is still pulling in some respectable coin.
The Mall Cop has managed to triple its production cost and is still holding pretty solid in the charts in its third week.

Taken is one of the best revenge thrillers in years. While there are flaws, its very entertaining and Neeson is great!

totally agree with Chuck, you cant go wrong with a viewing of Taken. I am glad Paul Blart was “Taken” out by a good movie!
couldnt resist! hehe
I’m glad to see Taken at number one and take that shite film OUT! (Neeson took everyone else out in the film) Taken was a fantastic film and while it had flaws, it was entertaining.
Hey John, will there be a review up for Taken anytime soon?
In Holland we saw that movie 2 years ago, a little bit of a simple movie. Its too funny to see that after 2 years a simple movie from luc besson takes over the box office.
“Taken” was quite simply kick-ass. I’m really surprised it got the PG-13 rating. Whatever, all that means is more people get to see Neeson on a vicious tear…
I think that audiences want to see a comedy right now. Insted of a thriller
@ Bill
Taken was actually editted down from its original international version (R) for American release.
Alot of violence was toned down, and it really sucks in comparison (is what I hear).
Oh my god, i can’t believe people think Taken was good,The whole story relies far to much on coincidence and Liam Neeson’s character is so unbelievable it hurts. also what was up with the french police officer carrying the baguette, no reason, we know your in France, unless your one of the many viewers who fell asleep.
Bad bad movie
x
Because they only sell Bagettes in France? We have them here to. People even eat them.
Sorry you didn’t like the film Wilco. You appear to be in a minority.
totally agree Liam Neeson was oozing Asskickery in this film…simply brutal and awesome
The film had some bad moments but I really liked it. Liam Neeson is such a great actor.
Also Luc Besson can make great or at least very enjoyable movies…Leon, Fifth Element, 1st taxi and transporter. It’s beyong me why most of what he does is complete shit thought…and then after a streak of really bad work he does something truly worth seeing again.
Good movie. A little clichéd in parts, but it has great fight scenes. None of that close-up, quick cut, shakey cam crap.
“Paul Blart is still pulling in some respectable coin.”
Paul Blart is doing more than respectable. It only dropped 36%, which is really good. They’re expecting this movie to make 125-140 million.
I agree the movie was entertaining, but the flaws it did have came off as a complete annoyence. Its an action movie attempting to be a thriller/drama. beBecause it was set up as a thriller/drama I found myself not being able to forgive the blatent “he should of got” mentallity that I normaly would in an action movie(IE Crank, Lethal Weapon, ect) . They should of just went with the ladder and made the movie balls to the wall action, and got Jason Statham to do it :). The first 20mins were golden, even with the random guy with a knife lurking in the shadows to kill the pop star. but really, last time I checked, Jeeps wern’t bullit proof, especially while being shot at
with an AK-47.
why should they have made it that way….the movie has been one of the top downloads for months…then when it comes out in america its number #1 at the box office….IMO when people say it should have been another way and the movie is allready making lots of money…..then they did everything right….youyr comments seem to be one of those i used to hear by that one guy in my youth…”that wouldnt happen in real life” ITS JUST A FRICKEN MOVIE MENT FOR ENTERTAINMENT NOT A TAPING OF A ACTUAL RESCUE ATTEMPT ONA GIRL.
I don’t know what all you naysayers are talking about, Taken is a pretty damn solid film. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Just a note Schulzy. There was only one person here who said they didn’t like it. Everyone else seems to have enjoyed this film as much as you.
Just sayin.
Taken – Great movie. Fun, energetic, good storyline, albeit that dreaded shaky camera fight scenes are alive and well in it.
How the hell a movie like Paul Blart can even stay as high as it has in weekend rankings is beyond me! I saw that movie tonight, and want my hour and a half of wasted life back! What a piece of crap, as calling it garbage would be ranking it higher than it deserves!
I cannot wait to see Taken!!!
Taken Movie IS the Best movie ever 5 Stars :]
What i love about this movie is that bryan mills doesnt hold back on the amount of damage he inflicts on the kidnappers.
