New Star Trek Trailer Online

I didn’t think they could come up with a better trailer for Star Trek, but after seeing this one, many questions are answered and I didn’t think it was possible, but my anticipation has gone up.

Raging fan speculation was all about the fightin’ words when they saw the trailer and assumed that a young rebellious Kirk was drafted in a bar fight to be the Captain of the Enterprise.

Well if this trailer tells us nothing it clears the air about that. Kirk will rise through the ranks after someone who knew his father encourages him to enlist. He takes the steps required and finds himself in a unique situation. Obviously he is serving as a lesser officer or something when the Captain of the Enterprise is incapacitated and Kirk steps up to the big chair to lead the mission.

I also like the line “James T Kirk was a great man, but that was a another life” implying to me that Nero is from the Future. This would fit with the speculation that someone goes back in time to change the past and cleans the slate for the franchise to carry on fresh.

This sets my mind at ease about some plot points but honestly I didn’t think that he was going to be named Captain that fast anyways.

  1. Wow theres this new energy and feel to this trailer, Awesome! i hope it persist from this trailer and translate even better when we finally watch the movie :)

btw is it just me or the background music theme sounds like TDK just a little bit? lol

  2. Right with you there Mark. Its great to see the original concept rebooted while preserving the history of what has gone on before.

To confirm – the music in the trailer is not from the movie score.

    1. The music is called ‘Freedom Fighters’ by Two Steps From Hell, an outfit that specialise in trailer music. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anywhere where you can even listen to the damn piece, let alone download it. Doesn’t appear to be available to people outside of the industry.

  3. I’ve been a bit out of touch with the plot developments of the new movie. I just watched the new trailer then had to watch it again to see if I heard the line correctly: “…but that was another life.” As a 52 year old fan since TOS first aired, that line literally sent chills up my spine. That this new movie isn’t just a remake or even a re-imagining of the origins of Star Trek, but instead a sequel/prequel via a new time line is incredible. Nothing old is tainted and yet it’s all new again. The trailer surpasses all my expectations. Like others have said, let’s hope the best scenes are waiting for us in the movie. How friggin’ exciting!!!

  4. I really love the music in the trailer. Someone here said it wasn’t from the film. Is that fact?

It’s got an amazing vibe about it. I so cannot wait for this to come out. My 8yr old son watched the trailer about fives times with me and wants to start watching Trek tomorrow. He’s never been inclined to do so before even though I have been on at him about how much he would like it.

  5. Phenomenal. I so love this trailer. This movie is really shaping up to be something to remember all while staying true to the original spirit of StarTrek.

    Can’t wait!

  6. Is it just me or does the acting in the trailer seem wooden. The villian looks lame just a guy with a light green complexion and few tatoo’s. Also Why does Kirks father have to be some great hero? I have seen that cliche waaaay to many times to. However, no one can deny that the special effects and cg look great.

    1. I think it’s just you! LOL. Kirk’s father has to be some great hero because that’s what the writer/s saw. If you don’t like the way they wrote it, go to writing school or wear out some keyboards and become one yourself. There is no way to make everyone happy, but you have to admit… This is by far the best looking Star Trek trailer–ever!

    2. Ha. Well said Ron. I think it’s appropriate that Kirk’s father was a great hero. It gives him something to aspire to. And this movie keeps looking better and better. Wow only 2 months away…

    3. @ Ron&Dude

Why does Kirk’s father have to be a hero? He could have been anything. You say it helps him aspire to be great? Kirk as we know is a rebel, its possible his father is a straight by the book guy. But again I just dont see the point in making his father a hero. If I was offered to write a film of a popular franchise I would. But Im just a guy voicing his opinion just like everyone else. I dont have to like what I see because the greater majority likes it too. Nor do I need to be a writer to know good or bad writing. One more thing… I love Howard the Duck.

    4. Kirk’s father being a hero or not is irrelevant. He was mentioned in the trailer as someone Pike knew and respected.

He was a starship captain for 12 minutes! He saved a lot of lives including Kirk. Pike recognized the name when he was in the bar and encourages young rebellious Kirk to enlist and make something out of himself. Honour his father.

That is pretty much the end of his father’s importance at that point. Why is it a big deal that he did something heroic? It’s just a plot hook. It doesnt change anything about Kirk.

  7. I have high hopes for this movie. I am the biggest Star Trek fan that I know and welcome this movie with open arms. This trailer blew me away! Seeing Pike mention Kirk’s father was amazing. Nero seems pretty bad ass and the image of the planet imploding was great.

  8. Have to admit this is the best looking trailer so far! The “kid Kirk” from the first two trailers still lingers and bothers me, but this trailer does really look cool I hope these weren’t the best parts of the film. I’m not a big fan of JJ, I tend to think he is overrated but I’m still willing to give this Trek film a chance because I am a fan of Trek. Love the TOS liked Generations and Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise were OK. I do think Trek needed a refresh but I hope JJ was the right guy for this!

  9. That thing, that the one ship or whatever it is, definitely must be a time hole. It reminded me a bit of that time hole that the Borg sphere went through in First Contact.

  10. The trailer at the official site seems to have a few extra beats in it.

The official site also is looping music from the score – gives me a Braveheart vibe.

The music in the trailer is not from the film.

Damn – I love that ‘chair’ moment.

  11. Wow, what a great trailer. One thing J.J. Abrams is amazing at is setting us up for something we hope is beyond fantastic. Let’s hope this is the case because this is a sci fi nerds wet dream he’s messing with.

  12. I’ve always hated Star Trek, it always seemed too “soap opera in space” for my liking.

But I’m definately watching this movie. That trailer ROCKED.

  13. OMFG this is now a must seee…wow it looks like everything i wanted star wars movies to be and more….love the action scenes and the landscape wowowow. ps i hate star trek but this was amazing

    1. So again you ASSUME that Dragonball will be bad even though you group it in with Trailers that can make bad movies look good.

YOU HAVENT SEEN DRAGONBALL, so please stop saying the same stupid assumption over and over.

You just admitted that the Dragonball trailers make the movie look good. Yet without seeing the movie assume its bad.

      You have no credibility.

  14. That was pretty damn impressive. I really like the direction that the franchise is going in and this trailer is just affirming my belief that they’re on the right track….finally.

  15. That was a great trailer. I like that they’re using the character of Captain Pike (Jeffrey Hunter played him briefly in the original series) to draft Kirk. This looks great. It’s a completely different Star Trek movie, and after seeing Bottle Shock recently, I think Chris Pine is going to be outstanding!

    1. I wonder if anyone from Enterprise series will show up… Archer is 100yrs before Kirk, so it is could work..dont people live longer and prosper int he 24th Century… I hope Tpal makes an appearence, maybe Kirks first sexual encounter with a Vulcan… Any excuse to get Tpal back on screen one last time in those body suits…. sorry about that..!
