With all the talk of Nightmare on Elm Street, and finally getting Freddy cast I think people forgot the most important thing.
Victims!!
And the iconic Nancy role from the first movie will be the focus of this film as well and may be played by Rooney Mara. I really see the first movie as being about Nancy and not so much about Freddy and I hope this new take on the franchise remembers that.
Bloody-Disgusting learned today that Rooney Mara (Urban Legends: Bloody Mary) is in final negotiations to star as the “average” teen protagonist in Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes’ remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which begins lensing in Chicago early next month.
She will join the previously announced Jackie Earle Haley (Freddy Krueger), Kyle Gallner (Quentin) and Thomas Dekker (Jesse) in the film being helmed by music video director Samuel Bayer.
I think that having a down-to-earth simple star is what will make this movie. I am confident that Jackie will do the Freddy Character justice, but without a victim you can relate to, there just isn’t anything to emotionally pull you into the movie.
I don’t know much about this girl, and I have only seen one of her films. But just from the image we see a very natural beauty and a “normal” girl. We don’t need no candy coated paparazi target for this role, we need a fresh new face without the burden of celebrity to pull us out of the movie.
I think that Rooney Mara will be perfect for just that!
