Neil Marshall Could Direct Predator Remake

As most of you know by now there is a remake for the old Arnold movie “Predator” in the works being produced by Robert Rodriguez and is adding an “s” to the end of the title… “Predators”.

Word has come out that it looks like they may have found their director… Neil Marshall (The Decsent, Doomsday). The folks over at Bloody Disgusting give us this:

Bloody-Disgusting is being told that NEIL MARSHALL is close to signing on to direct PREDATORS for 20th Century Fox. To be clear, the deal is NOT SIGNED just yet, but getting closer.

I like this news. It’s true that his last film, Doomsday, was a total train wreck of a movie that just stunk the theater out… BUT… The Descent is probably by favorite horror film of the last 10 years… so I’m not willing to count him out just yet.

If this rumor holds up (it seems like it’s more than just a slight rumor) then it really only leave one question. Who takes over for Arnold?

  1. I fail to see the point if a ‘reboot’.
If this is indeed the plan, then I rest my case about Hollywood being predominantly (note, I didn’t say EXCLUSIVELY) full of idiots who can’t make a good decision to save their lives.

  2. I always thought that Arnold should have come back and done a 3rd Predator film, so should the original Director, John McTiernan.
Instead they re-teamed to make, Last Action Hero which I thought was ok at best.
Arnold, in the past, has stated that he never liked doing sequels after Conan the Destroyer and he only did a sequel to Terminator because of his faith in Director James Cameron.
And I think that’s the key with this film and the many proposed Remakes/sequels, The DIRECTOR has to be good. Neil Marshall is ok but he’s no John McTiernan.

  3. Meh…who says we need Dutch? I say we need another strong lead but keep it in the same McTiernan’esque style. None of that Paul Thomas Anderson crap.

Shit, get Willis. He can John-McLane those Predator fuckers back to planet whatsashit

  4. This is awesome, I hope he does sign one so, so much. Neil Marshall is an amazing director.

Yes Doomsday was a weak film, but it started out strong, just got all waked out half way threw. All his other films are just brilliant and some of the best horror suspense films ever.

Also, if you watch the extras on the Descent DVD, he says his main influence for the movie was The Thing and I think, if I remember right, he talks a little more about his love for classic Sci-Fi/Horror. So it sounds like if anyone knows his stuff, it’s him.

  5. yeah, Doomsday was awesome. A great homage/mash-up of classic apocalyptic 80’s films like Mad Max and Escape from New York. If you like John Carpenter-esque madness amped up a bit with great locales, check out Doomsday. It did NOT “stink up the theater.”

If Mad Max is not your thing, then maybe Doomsday ain’t for you. As of now, I’ll see anything directed by Marshall. He knows his 80’s genre films and should do Predator justice.

  6. It’s not a good choice—-it is a great one.

I also had some love for Doomsday as well, but stacked up against the other two “D” movies he has done, it was a step down. (and I love Rhona!)

But y’know what? If Preds is a remake, I want him re-teaming with Kevin McKidd. I would like McKidd to have the Dutch role.

  7. Loved DOG SOLDIERS and thought that THE DESCENT was just OK (I know I am in the minority here); that said, I loved DOOMSDAY for what it was: an over-the-top B-Grade action movie. Check your brain at the door and just have fun!

I think this is the right move for the PREDATORS film; in fact, given Marhall’s penchant for strong female characters perhaps he should be given a go at the ALIEN franchise as well.

    Just my 2¢.

    1. Oh hell ya!

I totally think he should direct an Alien movie. He should of gotten the job to direct the new prequel they’re working on, instead of this other guy that no one has ever heard of.

  8. Now this is headed in the right direction. Dog Soldiers was a good budget flick, Descent is an a+ plus amazing film and Doomsday was actually a pretty fun movie to me. Would’ve been nice if Robert directed but this is good news.

  9. Hey… I actually liked Doomsday, yeah I know it was a crappy film and I had to totally switch my brain off to even remotely enjoy it… or maybe I just enjoyed it cause Rhona Mitra’s smokin’ hot, who knows, anyway there are plenty worse people who could direct this.

  10. Don’t forgot Neil Marshall has done the excellent Dog Soldiers (kind of similar to Predator, military guys running around wilderness taking on some beasty that out match’s them) so for me it’s 2 great films outta 3, i have faith he’ll make a good Predator movie.

    1. John read this. It says the movie will be a sequel therefore Arnold could play his role

Now that Robert Rodriguez is making a new “Predators” movie and has decided to make a sequel instead of a remake, he too is interested in bringing Arnold back. “Robert’s camp has just reached out to Arnie’s [camp],” Moviehole’s source said. “But they haven’t had a response yet.”
Arnold’s Dutch character would not be the main person in the film. If Arnold accepts the offer, he is likely do a three day shoot for a role that can be considered larger than a cameo.

Thats good news right? What do you think about a sequel John?

    2. I only just heard about this movie being made recently (as in, actually happening, not just rumored like it was for years). But I’ve heard that it’s both a remake and a sequel. So can’t say I know either John.

I’m really hoping for a sequel, just because I think there’s a lot of potential for more good Predator stories, instead of redoing the same one again. Besides, the first still holds up well enough to not warrant a remake IMO.
