Sorry, but Quantum of Solace was great. Not as good as Casino Royale, but still very good.

Haven't seen Other Boleyn Girl, so I really can't give much of an opinion on choice.

I'd have to disagree. Quantum of Solace had some impressive action, but the third act had next to no twists in terms of storyline, which is something very disappointing to see in a Bond film. Also, the ending pretty much invalidates the prequel (Casino Royale) as an installment. I wrote all about it in my original review when it came out, at:

http://mymoviespot.blogspot.com/2009/01/quantum-of-solace-review.html

I gave it a 7.

"It's a shame really, because Quantum Of Solace got so many things right. It blew you away with breathtaking, edge-of-your-seat action. It grabbed your attention with intoxicating and genuinely interesting female characters who you actually cared about. It knew how to build suspense. The pacing was masterful at times. Where it really messed up was the part about a meaningful plot, which is something it appeared to work so hard for.

"Casino Royale changed James Bond forever, because the films always ended with our hero, Bond, holding a lady in his arms and enjoying the payoff of all his work. Casino Royale did end end with James Bond holding a lady in his arms. However, James Bond was sobbing and the woman was dead. It was a powerful ending that lent so much new depth to the character we know to be James Bond.

"Quantum Of Solace had a heck of a lot to live up to. It should have brought something new forward, more great and powerful and impacting than what Casino Royale did, or at least just as much so but in a different manner. Is that not what we expect from a sequel? Instead, Quantum monopolizes on Casino Royale's storyline by integrating a sappy subplot that, while easy to relate to if you've seen Casino Royale, doesn't go anywhere we haven't been to before a dozen times over. For the majority of the movie we watch Bond mourn the woman's death from Casino Royale, the culmination of this subplot being an all-around terrible ending that not only monopolizes on Casino Royale's success but also at the same time invalidates it's meaning as a movie. And seeing as the whole point of a movie so often happens to be it's meaning and the successful expression of it, it's a crime I find very hard to forgive."

I actually prefer QoS over Casino. Casino might be viewed as the better film but I'll easily throw in QoS in the Bluray. Casino just slows down terribly throughout the movie and especially at the end where Quantum just keeps hitting you.

I was very dissappointed with QoS, not that it was bad, but CR had such a great script that really took inside the world of Bond and being a spy. Quantum had very little of that and the plot was almost non existent. It starts out with Bond trying to kill the people that killed his lady friend and it ends with him having done so, thats about it. He stumbles upon a network organization in the process but never really g o anywhere with it.

To me QoS felt more like the first act of one movie. The whole film could have been condensed to about 30-35 minutes and lead into the heart of a very good story. Instead we got an hour of filler and nothing really has changed at the end.

I hope they get back to what made Casino so great with the next installment. Build the movie around characters not explosions.

Casino Royale set such high standards that Quantum was always going to find it hard to match it. However it was still a good movie, just not yer typical bond though. More like a good action film with the purpose of putting an end to the previous story line. I would like to see a better villian in the next one as I miss the mad man taking over the world type like Blofeld or Goldfinger.

QoS was a disaster for the bond franchise and for me it was the worst film after die another day. This was such a blow to me after being frilled by Casino Royale.
I hope the new writers can realise where they went wrong with QoS.

I agree Forester is to blame as well as his DP it was way to tight you could not see half the action.

This back Quintain Tarentino When he said "I believe that action Directors are the best in the business" he is right you need lost of Coverage good angles and not having all this metaphorical bull shit that Forester put in It other than that I enjoyed the movie.

Who was it rumored to direct it was Danny Boyle right well he did an amazing job With 28 days later so I think he would be perfect for it. Or get the man who got rejected 20 years ago so he went and maid some little movie about a Teacher who travels the world finding treasure and killing Nazi.
