Behold Cobra Commander
As we count down the days to probably the worst film of the year, G.I. Joe, a new image has emerged showing us the face of Cobra Commander.
The guys over at Fused Film stumbled across this toy image of the character and snapped up some pictures.
Now, you guys know I think this movie will suck major ass… BUT… I have to admit I don’t mind this new look for the Commander. The blue hood may have worked fine in the cartoon… and the flat faceless silver mask… but in a live action environment I think this look is much better. But that’s just my opinion.
What do you guys think of the look?

you are jus stirring a hornet’s nest John seriously, when that first appeared on Hisstank.com I swore everyone just transformed in an angry mob an wanted to grab pitch forks and torches an go after Sommers.
Luckily I am not part of that crowd I am keeping an open mind on this an see how it plays out.
i’m already got my pitch fork and torch, going to bring it to the cinema so as to save time
I think it looks pretty cool.
This is old. I don’t understand why the cobra preview in the trailer looks different than the toy. See the trailer shoes him with a half mask on, where as this shows him with a full weird clear face thing.
Feel like I am looking at some villain from Power Rangers.
Indeed it’s cool looking in design, but it doesn’t make me any more excited to see the movie.
He looks different in the trailer because he is not the Commander. As I posted in that thread, that is a character called “The Doctor”
Bill I flicked through the comic adaptation in a store last week. The Doctor and Cobra Commander are the same character, believe me.
Oh and if what I read ends up on screen, something happens towards the end with the character Zartan which is such a blatant rip off of X-Men that it will stun us all.
As I mentioned before I seen a test screening of the flick, the doctor is Cobra Commander and SPOILER….
you only barely see him in this mask at the end of the film.
So is the “Doctor” played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt as well?
He is.
@Said how was JGL in the movie?
It looks like Lex Luther from season 7 of smallville.
Sorry to disagree, but when I saw that image, any remaining tattered threads of hope I had for this movie just left instantly.
Looks awful.
agreed
Couldn’t agree more. This looks disastrous.
Change for the sake of change is never a good idea. Further proof that this movie is going to suck hard.
Once this film goes the way of the Dodo, the toys will be footnotes and of value only to a few. But to each his own.
smh. john why do u think a blue hood wouldnt work? i think it would look really cool if done right, having the doctor get his face scarred in an explosion and wrapping his face with a cobra flag or a piece of clothing. make him look menacing.
i hate all these changes done because “it wouldnt translate on the big screen”. if super heroes can look right in their ridiculous costumes then we can get cobra commanders hood, or even robotic looking transformers, or the fantasy world of dragon. as someone said before change for the sake of change isnt good.
Except this isn’t change for the sake of Change. Can you imagine how stupid Wolverine would look in a live action movie running around in bright yellow spandex????
In my opinion (just my opinion) Cobra Commander in the shinny face plate would look flat out silly in live action… and as the leader of a technological international army, I find the idea of him wearing a sack over his head to be dumb as hell. This design actually makes a lot more sense to me for a live action movie.
agreed about wolverine, but its kinda apples and oranges. i could make the argument that captain americas costume would look stupid in a live action movie. but giving him black leather would be crazy, caps costume makes him iconic.
wolverine was iconic for his claws, not his outfit, spiderman and superman have costumes that serve as symbols. i feel the same about cobra commander, he would be generic villian number 1 million, if it wasnt for his look and voice. the silver mask doesnt have to be an exact replica, an updated face plate can work, as a ninja or mask like scarecrow in batman begins.
and john u cant say it wouldnt be cool to see cobra commander wrap up his wounds at the end of the film with the blue cobra hood.
wtf are u serious….again your opinion gets the best of you…whats funny is you nake your opinion be known like we are the mind fucked people to think its all right….the thing is thats just absurd….i see plenty of people good and bad in mainsteream media and in the “hood” or “lowlife” hangouts that have a get up or outfit that is somewhat just plain different or has a point of it bieng…plus wtf this is based of a cartoon for 6+
?? was that at me?
John,
I’d disagree that this is change for change’s sake. I understand your argument, but you’re basically saying that the people working on this movie didn’t have any faith in the source material. If GI Joe’s mythology made no sense or was so dense and esoteric as to be confusing (let’s pretend Cobra-La never existed), I could understand making changes to Cobra Commander’s origin to make it easier to digest for the average moviegoer. But thousands and thousands of people watched and loved GI Joe as it originally existed, and it would have been very easy to make a compelling movie while remaining faithful to the original material. Ramping up the action and effects for the big screen, but changing the backstory for Cobra Commander, forcing in a love triangle for Snake Eyes, Scarlett, and Ripcord (WTF?), and having the Joes running around in exoskeletons are unnecessary changes. What that feels like to me is that the screenwriters didn’t understand the source material well enough to make an interesting movie from it, and thought they could “improve” GI Joe for the movie. This whole thing has me flashing back to LXG.
Are you fuckign kidding? The faceless mask would have looked retarded. The hood? Fuck yeah, id dig the hood, the hood is cool…but the faceless mask didnt even work in the cartoon for me
This, along with the Transformers who’s chest couldn’t move, had to be changed.
I think the blue hood is necessary…but the faceless mask would have been weird
And bigsampson…..wtf are you talking about?
WTF is that?
i think the design is cool, reminds me of the cobra commander battle armor from the toy line, just curious to see how JGL plays the character.i for one am looking forward to this…just another change in the joe universe,it’s why the toy franchise has been around as long as it has.that being said,if sommers turns in another van helsing….we should hang the bastard.
I was about to say that about the battle armour version.
street fighter dragonball. i haven’t seen those movies but it cant be worse than that.
Its an improvment over the MK ninja look but it just doesnt feel right. Reminds me of some genaric 80’s sci-fi B-movie villian.
I don’t mind this but this doesn’t change the fact that the movie is probably going to be shit.
I thought Transformers 2 was the worst movie of the year?
Hmmm…I’ll wait until I see the film to pass judgement. I’m coming from the POV of religiously following the comics as a kid and watching the cartoon occasionally. I’m just a little worried about both villains having their faces scarred by fire. In the ’80s incarnation only Snake Eyes had a burned face which only added to his uberness. Now it appears that everyone who is cool has his face burned (as Billy Madison would say, “It’s the coolest”). And if Snake Eyes doesn’t have an unrecognizable mass of burn scars under that visor…
I don’t like it. I think they could have accomplished a cooler look if they would have had his eyes concealed with reflective lenses or even the same material as the mask. Or, if they simply attached the hoses to the mask it would look a lot more like the CC figure in his battle armor.
To be completely honest, I’m not buying that as a “Cobra Commander”. If anything, that looks more “Destro”-like than it does Cobra Commander.
meh
I don’t see how the blue hood would not work for the movie. It’s actually quite intimidating, and similar to the KKK or or terrorists who wear masks covering their faces. That would be a very intimidating look.
This doesn’t “work” for the big screen better than the hood. Where the hood would look intimidating, this looks cheesy. I’ve never seen ANYONE wear something like that, least of all a powerful military leader.
It also makes him look weak. He is physically weakened and injured. That doesn’t look like a powerful leader. Would you find yourself feeling confident in the President of The United States if he remained perpetually hooked up to life support? Good health is a sign of strength. Strength is a sign of good leadership. These are real world principals that would apply to a fantasy situation like this as well.
I really hate the exo suite that enhance the joes, i mean IF they are THE BEST operatives in the world, why would they even need em in the first place? that also means that they could pick ANY operative in the world and jack em with that suit, whats the difference?? doesnt make much sense to me atm, anyway cobra commander here looks generic to me :(
Someone tell Indy we found the crystal skulls.
Sigh…the shiney face plate would have knocked my socks off. this is quite ghey.
No way that sucks ass…where is the hood…they could have at least used the armor from the comics…so lame.
I think he looks kinda retarded.
He looks like a mutant like freak who had his face kinda messed up.
I don’t know if that’s the reason he wore a mask in the show though.
Complete Trash! Check out his goofy surprised look under the mask. The only thing I would fear from this guy is laughing to death.
don’t mind them john.. they’re all GI JOE fans or mostly 80s babies. still feeling raped by all the changes to their “childhood”. i’d be a hypocrite if i said i wasn’t one (coz i wanted to murder brett ratner after xmen 3). point is, i’ve spoken to alot of “younger” people, non GI Joe fans, and they think the movie looks sweet. i’m just okay with it. not expecting much. WE AREN”T THE TARGET MARKET so get over it!
This is not Cobra Commander. This is stupid.
stop bitchin
I highly disagree here you could make cobra commanders uniform fit easily into the movie since it really wasnt that crazy like the x men costumes were in the comics.
you give it a darker blue color, some more black and a darker red as well and there you go a costume that already looks better than this stupid thing.
Exactly. The idea behind changing things from the source material to fit in to a movie is to change them from something far fetched and unrealistic into something more believable and “real”.
Well in this case, a simple hood at military uniform as worn by Cobra Commander is far more realistic than this silly sci-fi looking thing. The hood and military uniform are quite realistic. Where as I’ve never ever seen anyone wear something remotely like this at all.
This is like a reverse of the X-Men situation, and in no way comparable at all.
this is a generic ass cobra commander he looks like if darth vader and
dr doom had a kid.
I actually saw the figures for these. Not TOO bad.
it looks more like destro in the cartoon, man this is going to be absolute dogs balls, picec of shit, fuck this in its stupid poo poo
I thought you were black lol.
So whos the real one? Are you two like in competition for the authenticity of the name Chris?
