I Love You Phillip Morris Poster

I’m a Jim Carrey fan. Yes, sometimes his schtick gets a little tired… yes “The Number 23″ was one of the biggest piles of shit movies I’ve seen in recent memory… yes he’s not quite the performer he once was… but he’s still Jim Carrey and I think he’s one of the most charismatic entertainers in Hollywood today (and yes I’m a little biased since he’s a good Canadian boy to boot).

I have been very interested in this new movie of his coming out called “I Love You Phillip Morris” that he appearing in with Ewan McGregor. The synopsis sounds amazing: “Based on the real life events of con artist, impostor, and multiple prison escapee Steven Jay Russell (Jim Carrey). While incarcerated, Russell falls in love with his cell mate, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). After Morris is released from prison, Russell escapes from prison four times in order to be reunited with Morris.”

A new poster for the film has hit the web:

Wow, I didn’t know they were already filming a sequel to I Love You Beth Cooper.

I’m worried fro Jim Carrey. As my favorite actor I’m afraid people will juts bash this film because of its huge gay side. I thought the same thing would happen with milk, and I stand corrected, so hopefully for Jim’s sake its good.

    • Jake says:

Stand corrected? Do you ever. People made a complete god out of that movie. I really do find happy homosexuality in movies very trying. Everyone’s jumping on the Brokeback Mountain bandwagon, and yet they don’t get one thing. The whole point of Brokeback was that living in the closet will destroy you. Similarly, living in the open as a homosexual will hurt you, in almost any society. Let’s face it; homosexuality is unnatural. Common, yes. Critters of the same sex have been screwing each other when there isn’t a female mate nearby since the beginning of time. Natural, no. And that’s why many people, deep down, despise it. Why do you think we use the term, “tolerance”? By the very definition, why would you have to “tolerate” something that’s good?

And from an economic standpoint, why desensitize audiences to being gay when that is a lifestyle our world cannot currently maintain, if ever? Sure, some say we could simply produce clones, but cloning has never worked. Remember the sheep, Dolly? She was produced on a success rate of almost 1 in 400, and she only survived for a matter of months before she started contracting loads of diseases and died. The process of cloning a human is far more complex, and even if we spent millions of dollars and after hundreds of tries finally produced a human being, he would not be nearly as healthy as natural-borns, at the very least. So what’s the point?

Where was I? I’m not quite sure. Anyway, do Carrey and McGregor have a brotherly love, or do they just sort of have sex? I’m sure it’s both, but I wonder just how they are going to portray it without it being a total cliche. I guess I’m a little interested, for the time being.

    • Malfumax says:

Clones? What? I’ve never heard of that as an argument against homosexuality. Why is there a focus on population? It’s not like all of a sudden the whole world will go gay and the species will be come extinct. It’s only a minority of people who truly love someone who happens to be the same sex.

And what you said shows that you think relationships only rely on sex? Whatever happened to compassion and understanding and all that stuff? Just because someone is gay doesn’t mean they did it to have gay sex.

Furthermore, if you dare bring up how it’s not in the Bible, or God doesn’t want you to, then your argument is pathetic and best. The Bible is written by men of ancient times, and if there truly is a God, you cannot possibly know what HE wants.

    • Brendan says:

Jake- you say “Critters of the same sex have been screwing each other when there isn’t a female mate nearby since the beginning of time”

but then go on to say “Natural, no.” Immediately after.

Seems to me as if you’re saying it has happened in nature for centuries, but it’s not natural? There seems to be a glaringly obvious contradiction here that I think your homophobia overlooked.

    Shiteous poster.

    I don’t like this poster, too…much…yellow!

Reminds me of the “40 Year Old Virgin.” lol

  5. DG Music says:

Holy gay! I want to see this so much now! Not because I want to see Carey get it on with McGregor, but because this really seems like a great new role for Jim…I was starting to lose hope in the man with the crap he’s been doing lately.

  6. AARON says:

Awesome! Now I can read the damn script. Didn’t read it cause I thought it sounded too much like “I Love You Man” or “I Love You Beth Cooper”

  7. Gerlach says:

McGregor is great, it’s an interesting matchup. I’m in. But I can’t quite sense the tone of the movie… Is it a comedy or a drama? Or both?

  8. bigsampson says:

i dont like homosexuality…..and i donthate it at all….in a srory like this it would be perfect cause its a real story….just like that flick with sean penn about the san francisco activist…very very good story will overshadow most real movie fans even if they dont agree with the subject.

  9. Kaneda979 says:

LOL, this movies sounds like it’s going to be just insane. Can’t wait to see a trailer.

  10. kevin [ jonathancranehiscameo] says:

Will this be the oscar time for Carrey or only a stupid golden globe.

  11. Beelzebundt says:

I’m so relieved this isn’t another satirical anti-smoking movie.

How can we accept gays if we can’t accept smokers!?

All kidding aside, great cast, great premise and the writing team who brought us Bad Santa? I have high hopes.
