Jessica Biel Joining Thor?

Jessica Biel is one of those rare Hollywood super hotties that is also not a half bad actress. That in mind, it’s no surprise that she’s in demand these days. There is also a trend the last few years of bigger and bigger named stars taking roles in super hero films… so this news seems to fit just fine with current trends.

There is a report (rumor) going around that Jessica Biel is in negotiations to appear in the upcoming Marvel film “Thor”. The good folks over at Movie Web give us this:

if cast, Biel would play the title character’s love interest. The site’s source didn’t know the character’s name, the source said they believed it was a female character that appeared in the Hulk Vs. Thor animated DVD. Possible female candidates that appeared in that DVD are Amora The Enchatress or Sif.

WHY DOES THOR NEED A FREAKING LOVE INTEREST?!?!?! WHY!?!?! FOR THE LOVE OF ODIN WHY!?!?!?!?!?!

Don’t get me wrong… I really like Biel and I’d be thrilled to hear she’s participating in Thor, but why do writers constantly feel the need to give superheroes love interests? It distracts from the characters and pulls us away from the stuff we want in our super hero movies. Gaaa I hate this.

Well as much as i feel like you john about giving the heroes love interest. We all know if a hero doesn’t have a damsel to save somewhere between his fights then that would just be to invincible of a hero,he couldn’t lose.

I’d question any man wearing tights that didn’t have a girlfriend.

The “humanizing” of a story is a high priority, even though we are in a “fantasy” story line. John, I analyze the movie business like a cake: there are many types of cake out there, but mostly, the ingredients and the process to bake it are the same. It’s a formula Hollywood sticks with, to draw the repetitive base it needs to sustain the crazy ass numbers it needs to survive. For as much as they just spurn out the same crap over and over again (again, mostly), why change the recipe if everyone is eating?

  8. AARON says:

Wow. I didn’t know John and I share the same opinion about love interests in super hero films

  9. choke says:

did thor and she-hulk ever get it on?

  10. leeloo says:

she wont have a problem rockin the battle armor.

  11. Darek-T says:

If Biel is a love interest that would mean that they would try to have her be the woman Thor tries to seduce or something which would be absolutely ridiculous becuase Thor can have any damn Woman he wants!

Nope, life doesn’t really work that way. I know girls who don’t even find Johnny Depp that attractive, go figure that one out. I thought all chicks fall over Depp.

    • Roman727 says:

I think this is what freud would call your Secret Obsesion with Johnny Depp. Its the 2000’s its accepted to be the way you are.

  12. Well if they aren’t using the Donal Blake thing my money is on Sif. Yes kinda distracting but expected.

At least they did’t try to put a love intrest in the last Punisher. Ok, there was a thinly veiled hint at it(And in the one before it)but at least it didn’t gel. Imagine the Punisher walking off happily ever after :)

  13. bjon86 says:

I mean if its as subtle as the love interest stuff in Iron Man than thats cool with me. On the other hand, if it turns out to be a love STORY, than damn that.

    • Kaneda979 says:

LOL, agreed. I don’t think it’s going to blow up as that much of a love story though. Don’t think it’s going to be anything like the Spider-Man love story or the awful one in Batman Begins.

  14. is cast because someone has to prove Thor has two hammers, and both command lightning. Only one brings lightning to it; the other brings it out, right? Hahaha

It might be nice having Biel back in a comics related film (and much better than her kickboxin’ iPod wearin’ Blade Trinity bit) but I think this is only rumor mill.

    Then again, Sif…naw, can’t be.

I definitely don’t agree that love interests distract us from the character. When written well, it can actually be what helps define the character most.

I thought all these love interests were important:

    Christopher Reeve/Margot Kidder Superman 1,2
    Toby Maguire/Kirsten Dunst Spiderman 1
    Hugh Jackman/Famke Janssen Xmen 1,2,3
    Any Hulk movie (very important)

whether or not some of these movies are any good is another matter

Dude, its not just in superhero movies, all movies should have some romance…i dont mean liek hardcore romance but…even a small hint of a relationship is always good

But im a romance freak, my fave movie is Shakespeare in Love

But let me clarify, it can also be a friendship (Shawshank Redemption) or a SMALL TINY hint of a relationship like in finding nemo with the Alzheimers fish with the clown fish or a regular one like in die hard…a regular relationship between the cop and his wife…but i believe there should always be some sort of romance.

A film can be good without action or horror or comedy but a good relationship always makes it great and never worse.
Shawshank Redemption i think proved this with the most unbelievably non-gay and very touching man hug EVER

    • tzaylor says:

I’m not saying only superhero movies need romance, most movies have it in some degree. All I’m saying is that in the superhero movies I’ve seen, it hasn’t been distracting to me at all.

But I definitely don’t think every movie has to have romance, especially as a main theme. There are lots of emotions to explore, it doesn’t always have to be love. Hazmat we didn’t know you were such a romantic.

  16. EZELL says:

I really am shocked her career has boomed

  17. HAZMAT says:

There is absolutely no good movie without romance.

Master and commander was pure shit to me because of that. Its a cardinal law, there must always be romance…as long as you dont make the same mistakes Sam Raimi made

It would be great if Jessica Biel played a part in Thor. I’m a big fan of all those marvel films. If she was cast, then it would make this instalment a better movie to watch. You always need a bit of variety when it comes to superhero films !!!.

  19. BamKazaam says:

hmmm are we getting emo thor now??? hahahaaahaha, i bet her character is a struggling actress and she whines about it in the entire movie and the entire movie is about her carreer, then Loki killed Odin and Thor is sooo mad and they duke it out, then Thor realizes that Loki is his brother and say “I forgive youuuuuu”, and she still whines about her carreer…

    • Kaneda979 says:

Don’t forget that Loki isn’t really in much of the film and doesn’t really show up in full force until the last 30 minutes of the film (Venom). The rest of the film is focused mostly on Biel’s character’s personal problems and even some of her and Thor’s crumbling relationship, because she is so self centered and focused on herself. LOL, man did Raimi screw up M.J. in S3. Thankfully though he’s not directing Thor.

If they give Biel’s character a strong role, both a good reason her character is even in the movie, good lines, and a strong personality, the kind of chick that can handle herself for the most part, even kick some major ass if she had to, then she’ll be a welcomed addition to the story for me.

Also, as a bonus, would be great if she gets a chance to show of that amazing ass of hers again (ala the scene in I Know Pronounce You Chuck in Larry). >_<

Kenneth Branagh will be directing this movie. He is a scholastically trained actor and director mostly in the Shakesperian genre, so fine acting will be demanded and commanded in this movie. Yes,Branagh does a few duds but so does some of the greatest actors and directors too but overall his dynamic for superb acting supersedes his failures. If Jessica Biel is in this I think we’ll see her acting ability taken to unseen hieghts. Natalie Portman is a better actress but she does not have that beautiful but powerful “Goddess” look that Jessica Biel has let alone that her stature would not match “Lady Sif’s”. Portman would be great as Donald Blake’s love interest. I hope that John Favereau and Branagh collaberate alot and make a surprise Donald Blake cameo in “Iron Man 2″. The “Thor” movie is gonna need as much buzz as possible and it would be great to see him in “Iron Man 2″!!! Portman as “The Enchantress” would a good spin for her because this would be the first time seeing her play a villianous character but she just isn’t “Asgardian” in stature. Getting off the subject slightly, I would love to see a surprise cameo of Jason Statham as “Ultimate Hawkeye” in Iron Man 2 and a first appearance of a holographic version of “Jarvis” instead of just hearing him talk,or maybe we’ll see that in “The Avengers”.

  21. tich tran says:

Iwould love to see the Thor movie. But I would, okay I’m obssesed, to see a chinese god in the avengers magazine. One good character would be Houyi the lord of archery and sometimes architecture. He could be pictured wearing the “real” traditional hanfu. The hanfu was a chinese mostly silk robe which looked kind of like a bathrobe. Except it was folded not in the middle but on the right side of a man’s or woman’s body. His hair would be in a bonnet tied w/a ribbon or a golden “crown”. Forget about the shaved head and pigtail-which was forced on the chinese by the Qiang dynasty(which was Manchu not ethnic Han). He could fight the other gods of various pantheon including his own. This includes Chiyou the chinese god of war and storm-even though some koreans worship him as a god emperor who lost to the yellow emperor a long time ago-based on 1900’s nationalist forged book. I would hope Greg Paik isn’t biased to include Houyi in the avenger(although some chinese might be offended by houyi being a member of a american superhero group. Or the fact that chiyou should be portrayed as a bad guy rather than a good guy.

  22. Tich Tran says:

Actually a hanfu looked like a kimono, if you wanted to know. May the Thor movie succeed

  23. tich tran says:

actually when I mean his hair being in a “bonnett”, I mean his hair tied in a topknit. Like the way it was portrayed in “red cliff”. Please no government hat(he is no government official). When people think of chinese men they think of government hat but that was only wore by government official, restaurant waiter(as a uniform), etc. Even then government official didn’t wear it all the time.
